Will Mountain Creek be better than Big Boulder?

First, basic details – our terrain parks have not only been dismantled and moved, but they've more than doubled in size. Located on both South and Bear peaks, we're creating the largest park in the east. Some of the others are close, but we're going to be the biggest (and funnest), hands down.

Next, details of the basic details – more than double the size means more than 60 acres of ridable terrain, showcasing all sorts of features – snow, plastic, metal, wood – ranging from basic ride-on boxes and rails to huge jump lines and crazy circus loop-de-loop rails…ok, maybe not that one, but there'll be more fun than you can shake a stick at.

Now if this isn't enough for you, check it out – all this is serviced by two dedicated high-speed quads,. Concerned that all those people are gonna rut out landings and destroy lips? Don't be – our park staff has been doubled to a 36 member army.

The most important part of the South project (besides having fun, of course) is making sure that everyone stays safe. In order for this to happen, everyone, from all you grizzled old-school shredders to the brand new up-an-comers, needs to participate in the Park Pass Program. This year, you'll have to sit through a short video before you can get your pass. It's free, it's informative, and it's good info to know. So use your head, know the rules, and show some respect – it's gonna be a long, fun season.

After a long hard day of destroying it, you need some relaxation and tasty food, right? Right. So we're redesigning the South lodge to make it a little more your style. Some new, bigger retail with a ton of stuff, a shop with basic necessity items (straps, screws, ladders, etc), cool tunes, some rad artwork…and don't worry about your deck or skis getting swiped while you enjoy a chili breadbowl – we're offering a free board check for everyone.

Plus we'll hold all our park-specific events at South this season, while things like the Burton SuperDemo and Pond Skimming will remain at Vernon.

See you out there December 15th!

Historically it won't happen. I predict that MC might have an awesome park for a month or two but that it won't have near the value of Boulders extended season.

All you have to do is look at Boulder last year during a really crappy warm start to winter and how they compared to EVERYONE up and down the east coast. It was mid to end of January before most places had anything.

Sno - is who Boulder will be competing with in my opinion. They both are going to try and out do each other with open and close dates.

wrong. pa has A single mediocre park and is working too hard to make that less mediocre with the end result being little improvement.

thats my bitter post for the night

im convinced u really dont like Mt. Creek at all, all u have to say is negative things about the place, even in the Mt creek cult, u tell us to watch how much we hype it up for this year, and all this other stuff. What happened at creek that ur soo negative towards the mountain?

EVERY time I have taken my kid there he has been let down. NOW it might be a coincidence. I am waiting for the day for when people that I know, who travel the way we do, to say that yes, Mountain Creek is worth the price of a lift ticket and travel to visit.. This is why I am negative. Once burned twice shy.

And my claim is that I am still in contact with several who work there, they also tell me what is up comparitively.

well here is my 10 cents. creek may have a larger park with more features. bu tboulder haS THE SNOWMAKING ABILITY any one can weld a rail ( dont argue just listen) but it is a matter of making snow in the mid atlantic that matters most. and boulder gets it done. last year itwas well into january before anthing fun was up at creek and bould had 2 full parks up and running for over a month. creek shut down in march, boulder was able to maintain thier base well into almost may. if we have another warm winter jfbb will be the place to be on the east coast

i comepletly aggree...but this year the east is supposed to get the snow when last year the west got it...so it might be mt. creek on everyone's mind instead of bb

Here is my 22 cents Big boulder is wacky the whole vibe is way off it seems like if your not wearing a XXXXXXXXL shirt no one seems to think you can ski-snowboard its so dumb the whole my shirt is bigger than your so I can ski-snowboard better than you thing is really gay hate on me all you want I don’t even care that’s how I feel about the place the vibe is incredibly way far off

And that is why I plan to show up in the tightest jeans I can find, and a black and pink striped shirt one day. I don't give a fuck. Just ignore the assholes and ski man.

last i checked, the east coast doesnt get snow. let me check again real quick....

yup, the east coast doesnt get snow. no amount of snow we get here makes any bit of difference as far as conditions go for more than three days tops. unless you're continually getting several inches of new snow every night, you're not going to have nice soft snow like they do out west. while boulder does a much better job than most everywhere else around here (blue and bear can make decent snow when its actually cold enough) its still nowhere near as good of snow as they get out west, and like worf said, thats what it ultimately comes down to.

ur funny, u ever consider bein the next dane cook cause u can make peopel laugh..seriously, i chuckled a bit....and i know the snow isn't gonna be like the the west cause first, utah and that are gets the slat lake snow which drys it out and makes it super fluffy, and colorado gets dumped cause the storms stay in the mountains and dump...out west we don't have a slat lake or a mountain chain, thats big enough, to get dumped like that...but up north there is the great lake snow adn that dumps on jay peak...but around here...its all about timing....when the storms come and its cold enough we can get some pow pow..some. all im sayin is that this year we're supposed to get big storms aiight

im not going to expect mtn creek to be as good as boulder was last season. but i expect it to be a lot better than what mtn creek was like last season

how was he let down? i meen yeah its much more crowded than BB is, but u cant just hold grudges like that. Did u go this past season?

uhhhh... people covinced him to convince me to take him there and then when we get there he wished he had stayed at his home hill. We travel a lot. so when it is 2 hours to the Poconos friday night and then 2 hours more Saturday morning to MC. He has enough friends who ride both MC and Boulder who will tell him what is up comparitively. This season should be interesting. I am hoping for cold weather for you guys to blow snow to amke your new park happen!

yeah same, they r redoing a bunch of the old rails from liek 3 or 4 years ago, liek the longggggggg S-rail, a bunch other. My friend has a house 15 min from BB, so im gunna go there again this season.

Sweet! so you know, Boulder has a lot of stuff in the works this season. They just do not want to advertise. Hope to see you there!

Mountain creek had a very short season last year. But when it was good, and everything was set up, it was amazing. They had snow early season but didn't set up enough stuff. I think with added rails, more park crew/builders, and two mountains to work with its gunna give boulder a run for its money. I plan on hitting boulder once or twice early and late season, but in the middle of the season its gunna be all at creek.

Wow Creek has been looking legit lately. That roller coaster rail looks so fun!

Honestly I don't think Boulder is that fun. Their small park is really fun, but other then that when I went 2 weeks ago it was pretty beat. Ya the jumps are huge, but I would rather hit a nice 30 foot jump with a poppy lip rather then going mach 10 into a 55-60 footer and landing on a rather flat landing.

Sno has been stepping it up lately. Where they want to put the 22' pipe, I have a feeling it isn't going to fit in good with the rest of the park. They almost have one whole wall up, but just looking at that wall and where the other needs to be is really going to fuck the bigger park over. If we can just take that snow right now and built even more legit jumps then we already have, and set up a few more lines of boxes and rails. We will be legit. If you want to ride a legit park, come to Sno at the end of the month after the Revolution Tour. We will have some gnarly stuff set up for the public to ride after then. Our park passes will be going into effect hopefully soon too.

definitely agree with you on that. was at boulder the past 2 weekends and both times the mini park is the most fun. love park would have been fun if they down rail where actually set up decently

Have you been there after they rebuilt the jump line? The last jump got bigger and has a shitload more pop. They even steepened the landing, which was never rather flat in my opinion. Overall I think it's been pretty sick, but that's just my opinion.

People who are complaining about the big jump line are probably not ready for jumps that big or just don't like that type of jump. reputable peeps have verified during thier visits that the big park is legit.

Seany, Nips, Brogan and Pat should be there this weekend.

big park is legit for sure. but there are times when i feel like cruising and hitting some rails and most of the mtn except freedom is weak for that. plaza was fun for trans am, but i would much rather see a good dfd rail and down rail and box at the bottom instead. sorta hence the name a spot where you can hike, not a continuation of boulder park. and last year they threw up rails and whatnot on that trail to the right when you get off the double. that was a lot of fun to. and that whole wood rail run isnt much fun at all. should be built more lumberjack style. check this link for an explanation of what i am talking about.

boulder has the jumps mountan creek could only dream of building. but i think that creek is giving boulder some competiton this year, its park is really good so far, boulder just opens earlier and closes later

Yes I was there since they rebuilt them. They look fun, but im not into the whole going mach 10 into a jump and landing on something that isn't so steep. I went on Martin Luther King day at night when it was about 7 degrees. I wasn't hitting those jumps with the snow being that hard.

understood, you had bad luck on going that day, cause yeah things were getting hard from a thaw freeze - after all we are on the east coast... I have a lot of footage from those jumps now.

does sno have a winch groomer, nick?

let me know when they start using another cat as an anchor point to groom the landings at sno. I think you know what I am talking about.

If BB really needs a winch cat to groom out their landings then wow. Our jumps aren't really all that big for us to need a huge steep landing. Our landings are definitely steeper then BB park's run, but maybe not as steep as the landings on love park.

(Pro caliber) landings are all done with a winch cat. 34 degrees is the optimum angle. Boulders is around 30 degrees when I measured them when they were first built. A protractor is a lousy way to do it. Inclinometers are best in the groomers, which are more accurate.

Bishop on here wrote a really great article on jump building with all the details and specifications, I can find it if you want it, to pass along.
