So finally WikiLeaks releases the 250,000+ cables from US embassies from around the world, which were highly publicized when Bradley Manning went all Deepthroat with the Iraq attack heli videos.

There's a lot of non-sensical rumors and gossip in there (Vladimir Putin is seen as "alpha-dog"; UK prince taking part in inappropriate behavior etc.) but this is a pretty big blow to the trust between US and its allies when there are direct orders decreed by your Defense Secretary for US diplomats to go gung-ho with all this neo-spy stuff.

I'm intrigued to see if these public "secrets", when finally brought to light have a large impact on foreign relations.

PS. Of course, do not take all to heart, we'll see how this thing blows up.

it would probably cause bigger problems if every other country in the world wasn't involved in similar situations, only theirs aren't made public.

I'm actually a bit surprised the wikileaks founder is still alive. I'm sure if he targeted certain countries, he would be. (The Israelis for example would not take him lightly.)

In all seriousness, he is quite possibly a rapist.

But yeah, transparency is really important in a democracy. As long as it doesn't say put troops in outright danger by letting out to much tactical information or something

It's possible, but with every government in the world having something to gain by those allegations, it's pretty easy to see how he could be framed as well.

This is fucking ridiculous. When are other countries papers going to be made public? I would LOVE to see wikileaks expose Russia or China or Israel like you mentioned. This sexual assault offender would be dead within minutes.

Do people actually sit back and pretend that living in today's world doesn't involve stuff like this? I see comments like "US has been involved in some shady shit man these past few years" Ya you should be thankful the US has since you're still alive, sitting at your goddamn computer living in peace while others are out there fighting for you. Stuff like this only puts more lives in danger.

Some congressman is asking for Assange and WikiLeaks to be determined as "an international terrorist organization".

Jesus man... Same with our foreign minister, he said, roughly: "I believe in free speech and transparency in and between governments. But this act of publishing "secret" documents is unforgivable and illegal."

Well, there you go. Where's that transparency when you start putting TS-NOFORN statuses on every document thanks to this uproar?

it would be a healthy thing if they did it evenly across the globe.

targeting just american secret documents does nothing. Do you think the british, french, russians, israelis and chinese are all absolutely shocked and astounded by this? They are most likely just happy it's not them.

First of all, Assange does have an anti-US agenda. Secondly, in smaller "empires" patriotism grows stronger when it is condensed thus supporting the protection of intellectual data, or simply people with the possibility of leaks are too afraid to do anything after seeing the end results of working against the rule (Anna Politkovskaja, Alexander Litvinenko).
