ok so do this math problem WITHOUT A CALCULATOR OR PEN AND PAPER ..just do it in ur head.then post what u got..then get a calculator and post what you got that time

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000.

Now add 30. And another 1000.

Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10.

What is the total?

 
haha yeah Im a retard. after I realized that, I went back and saw that the reason you get 5000 when you dont use a calc is that you subconsciously shift the numbers to be next to eachother, moving them out of the 10's collumn and into the 100's column
 
yah doesnt addition have some special property where the numbers can be added in any order and it will come out with the same answer same w mulitplication
 
uhhh i got 4100its not that hard you just have to know how ot add i dont get whats so strange about that
 
OK im gonna try to explain it.

there are 4 1000s that you add up for a total of 4000

there are 40 30 20 10 that you add up for 100

1000(4)+(40+30+20+10)=4100.

When you do it in you head some people will carry the 1 from the 100 into the thousands place and not into the 100th place like where it belgons. thus that is why most people are getting 5000 not 4100.
