Wide Angle Lens..

getting annoyed with me yet?

Ive got my video camera and a fish eye and I love it, but now I need to get a wide angle lens.. I want a one that is fairly cheap and does not have to be the best. Im looking to spend $30 and it needs to fit a 37 mm thread..

Also can someone explain to me the magnification ratings for these lenses? Will you see more with a .38x lens or a .5x?

well that seems like a pretty cheap price

but its also small...i dont really know prices on these things

but a .5 will be a wider lens

so youl see more

thats what i think you were asking at least

^no

.5x is not "wider"...its more of a wide angle, and its the one I would buy. .38x is more towards fisheye status. At least thats what I think, I'm not sure, but I'd put money on that

because I like fish eye? why else? and would a .5x be fine for me.. Im mostly beginner. An allen I dont have any shops around here that could help me with this.. the only photo stores are both going out of business and my next guess would be best buy and I dont like them.

the ratings on these things lie, at least the rating on mine did...

so the one i have is supposed to be 0.43x and i can barely be called a wide angle

the one my buddy has is 0.40x and they don't even compare at all!

so try it yourself

well Im just looking for a cheap set up.. I mean I have a nice camera but its no prosumer camera so Im not really looking to drop $100 on a $350 camera.

Can someone please explain the ratings to me?

dave stop being the superhero and saving my ass evertime. ha just kidding - give that man some karma cause ive already maxed out awhile ago..

wide angle you see more without a round distortion.. fish eye you get the round effect..

Pretty much. It's not technically a 'rating' it's a magnification. A lens zoomed completely out on the camera (neutral) has a value of '1' lets say. The 0.43 would pretty much be a fraction, so 43/100 and it would be like zoomed below 1 to 0.43. So the lower you go, 0.38, would be zoomed out even further. Now the reason fisheye's and wide angles differ from eachother is the glass isn't formed with the same curvature as eachother; not universal, but the magnification is the same. So you essentially have to find a lens that you like. If there is no vignetting on the lens, then the shape of the glass will make all the difference, even when it comes to magnification because you won't be seeing everything the lens is picking up.

Does me make sense?

Ive tried to use cheap lenses, destortion is horrid, also alot of cleaning involved, there is multiple surfaces in which dirt can "fester", thats just my thought on cheap lenses
