Wide angle and fisheye

I was wondering the main differences between a wide angle lens and a fisheye. Will the wide angle give the same roundish effect as the fisheye would ? thanks

nah. wide angle has no distortion to it. fish eye does. are you think for a stills camera or for video?

some wide angles to have distortion depending on how curved the lens is. a fisheye is basically just an extreme version of a wide angle

I'm looking for a lense for a digital camcorder, and I haven't found any fisheyes for it, but I did find a wide angle, but thanks for the replies

get a wide angle

well me and my chick were gettin busy at her place when her parents were gone, we were in the basement so she says to go upstairs and get a condom and im naked and i obviously ran to go get it, it was dark as hell too so on my way back downstairs i missed the last 2 steps and fell flat on the ground with an boner, i was so lucky - Lateralis

i have a wide angle for my viddy. fisheyes are dope, but i think that view gets old if it is over used, so i am pretty stoked with my wide angle

so let the losers lose and let the players play/ the only difference is the dates of some dust on the clay, what

Wideangles are something like .3x or so, and a wideangle is .5x. If you buy a fisheye, you can zoom a little bit until it's around .5x and you'll have that of a normal wide-angle converter just without the fisheye effect.

Hey whatever. If it's on the east coast it sucks balls. Come out west. You'll shit you pants just looking at some of our terrain. Goddamn I hate all the fuckers like you on this site. Fuck off you cunt.

Yeah - SteveXs is right. Get a 0.3 fisheye and then you still have the option of zooming in and getting a less wide angle. I have a 0.3 Raynox on my GL1 and the maximum zoom with the 0.3 in place (about half the camera's zoom range) is the same as the widest zoom without the fisheye on, so I've got a full range right there.

Ok the first guy is retarded. With a wide angle lense anything lower that 35mm has distortion. You won't really notice i that much until it is more like 28 mm. And you will really notice it with like a 20mm or 16mm lense. Basically the difference between a fisheye and a wide angle is that with a fish eye the distortion is around the whole lense. With a wide angle lense the distortion is only horizontal across the lense. I hope that makes sense. Personally I lkie wide angle way better. Fish eyes make everything look like some cheap skate video.

yip i was wrong sorry. telestars is right. i found this trawling through the web - 'A rectilinear lens will preserve the straightness of lines throughout the frame, but objects at the edge become stretched, losing their proportion. These lenses are desirable for architecture. For normal appearances, keep people away from the edges.

An angular fisheye preserves the angle between two lines, but lines become increasingly curved at the edge of the frame. Subjects with recognized proportions, like people, will look best with this lens. For normal results, keep straight lines away from the edges.'

i hope ur not using fisheye for anything but taken commercial shots of cars or something.. other than that, dont use it for film, only photography, it just looks bad.

fisheye = alot of distortion

wideanlge = close shot but not alot of distortion

They're both 'wide angle lens'. Anything below 35mm is a considered wide angle lens. Also, anything below 35mm distorts the image. And a wide angle lens WON'T give you a close shot, it's further away. If you want to do close ups you need a macro lens with a fixed focal length.

If you want a good fish-eye lens it's going to cost you $$$.

Get a fisheye that wont fit on it, but get your self an adaptor which will fit your lense on the cam.

That what I did so I can use my fisheye for my MidiDV and my Digital Camera!

wide-angle lenses and fisheye lenses are the same thing, its just that fisheye is the widest possible angle you can get with a lens and that is what designates it as a fisheye lens. you can see almost 180 degrees peripherally with a fisheye, but the distortion is ridiculous and you can't zoom in and maintain quality with a fisheye lens. A wide angle you can zoom in but it may get distorted if it is a pretty wide-anlge lens. A lot of people think the fisheye is good for filming such things as skiing to get close, but all it does is allow more items to be shown in the picture while rounding them all out. Essentially it makes things seem further away which is why you have to get close as shit to film with a fisheye or else its worthless, plus those closeup shots usually done with fisheyes are usually shoddy and awful. I suggest you get a wide-angle and see how that works out before you go off and get a fisheye.

I'll stick my renob in your elohssa

The widest possible angle you can get with a lens is 360. They have those vertical adapters that make a circular image on the film plane... and it's the full 360.

nope, thats definately wrong. if it was 360 it would have to have everything in it including the person taking the camera . you're thinking of a 180 fisheye.

He's right - you can get 360 lenses, but it would look shit on a camcorder. They are really for panoramic stuff, and I've seen some nice interactive quicktime views done with them. The camera's lens sits pointing upwards then there is a mirror at the top to get the 360 view directed. They are pretty expensive though I think. You have to set it up on a timer or remote though, or else you'll be in the photo like he said. If someone took the time to learn how to use it properly then it could be pretty cool if you managed to get a good sequence made from it and made a Quicktime 360 tour with it.

They are for photographs... they wouldn't work with video, they seem pretty fragile.

You could always lie down on the ground under the tripod with a cable release.

Wide angle is so much better, with a fisheye your shit just looks like a skate video or snowboard video trying to make everything look bigger than it is. If you need bigger, get a bigger jump.

wow, never new that. they must be pretty crazy, though i cant see much use for a 360 fisheye. if you're looking for style then try something different. film the entire thing on an old cine camera. i've always thought that would be a cheap way of making an interesting video. any thoughts?

fisheye can be used to get right up in the skiers grill and make em look bigger, wide angle just grabs more of the surroundings

alright enough with the 360 bs. yes you can do the 360 degree thing, but its not the most you can get in essence. 180 degrees in succession is the most you can get, the 360 degree shot is pieced together. but that 360 is kinda cool and makes you trip when you stare at a picture of it. anyways has anyone seen the 360 tv thing, its so awesome

wide angles let you get closer to whatever you are filming while still being able to capture the entire thing instead of cropping some of it. i like it for getting shots from on top of tables, you can get the angle you want and it still keeps your subject in the frame, like laying under a person as they go over a table wouldnt really work well without a wideangle. a fisheye as said before gives you a near 180 degree feild of view, which can be useful for rails, thats about all that it really works for though, or so i have found

fisheyes are good because they make the skier bigger, but the shit around him is smaller. so it is like the camera is more focused on the skier instead of everything else.
