Why you started skiing

Today I was thinking about why I started skiing because I just last year I switched from snowboarding to skiing. I realized I wanted to switch because I saw the big air X games and slope style and remember I thought it was way cooler than snowboarding.

What got you guys into skiing?
 
I didn't really have a say in whether I wanted to do it or not. My dad taught me when I was 2. But now I am so thankful that he taught me at a young age.
 
I truthfully have no idea. I think it might have been just growing up in CO and always having a really chill instructor, usually an Australian or new-zealandite (is that how you say it?)
 
I saw snowboarding movies and shit and was like yo thats the bomb and tried snowboarding and i was like fuck dis super gay and then skied from that day on
 
I've skied since elementary school but was never really "hooked" on it. Then one of my good friends took me on a ski trip a few years ago and the conditions were amazing and it was one of the funnest trips of my life. That's when I became "hooked!"
 
My dad forced me to. I didn't want to go up the mountain at all, but the chairlift looked pretty cool. He totally lied to me and said just put the skis on and we'll ride up and back down. I believed him and rode the lift. When we got to the top and got off the lift, I said fuck that and had to be taken down in a tobogen. Think I was 4 years old.
 
Originally I had no interest in skiing whatsoever, but then one of my friends that went like once a year took me to a tiny ass, one lift hill and his mom taught me how to ski. I could bomb the 300 foot hill by the end of the day then fell in love. AND THEN I was introduced to the Tom Wallisch Breck GoPro edit and so it began. Here I am 3 years later. Still in love with skiing, and moreso in park.
 
Only person in my family who skis. But I started through my school ski club. It was pretty much the place to be back in middle school. People would be making out in the back of the bus on the way home. It was great back in the day. Oh to be 13 again.
 
My immediate family are hardly skier, like they rent when they do go which is at most a few times a year. They brought me when I was like 8 or so. I got my first pair of skis, that my friend gave to me, when I was probably 11 or 12. My uncle has a house at a mountain and is a big skier so I wanted to go ski with him when I first got the chance that same year and he taught me quite a bit. My freshman year in high school was the first year I got a season pass and I joined the alpine ski team so I got much better very quickly. I got me first pair of twin tips the beginning of my sophomore year when I realized that was the cool thing to do so my friends are I started skiing park (or at least tried to).

I saw that gopro tom wallisch edit from breck during the dew tour and i switched. I thought that superman front was the sickest thing in the world back then
 
Field trip, junior year. I sent it, shitty rentals and all, off about a 25 footer and yardsaled hard but I was hooked on park since.
 
I would watch that thing on the reg when I first started. At one point, I could probably name off every trick he does in order

Ive skied since I was like 8, my dad used to be an assistant GM at mt rose (if you live near reno you know what it is) and then quit and decided to get me into it. I did groomers and some pow until high school where I got into racing and then I found NS and decided I should start doing park like a month ago
 
I snowboarded first. I had always thought about maybe giving skiing a try, but never really did. Then I saw Ski Movie 3, and it set me over the edge. I still snowboard a few times a year, but never regret switching.
 
im the only person in my immediate family who skis. I went on a ski trip in 5th grade and realized that skiing wasn't as hard as i thought then i went like 3 times through middle school. Now i have my pass and ski almost every day. I have to thank my elementary school for getting me hooked on it.
 
Simon dumonts slumdog illionaire. I remember watching that 100 times and just saying I want to do that.
 
exactly this. i think i was 12 and one of my friends older brothers posted it on facebook. i literally watched it 10-15 times a day before i caught on to tom wallisch. i then watched all of his edits daily. evantually after months i got my first pair of twin tips and now im 15 and still love slumdog illionaire
 
I got into skiing because of my middle school ski club. After down hill skiing for two years I moved to the park and will admit I was the rental ski kid who went off the side of the lips of rails as jumps and did "50-50s" on boxes. Late in the season I saw Simon dumonts slumdog illonaire. Fell in love, got the OG Line Afterbangs and progressed since then and here I am now
 
I quit hockey and had to do a freestyle program last season to compensate for it...I hated it at first but now I'm hooked on park.
 
when i was in 8th grade my best friend started snowboarding and tried to get me to snowboard but i always thought skiing was sicker so i tried it out and have been hooked ever since
 
Started skiing at 5 doing yearly trips with my grandma &family. When I was 14 or so, the local television station in Mammoth had TGR's anomaly on with Sage barely getting away from that avalanche. That changed what skiing was for me; something way more exciting than following my family on blue runs. I didn't even know what freeskiing was before that.

 
I'm the only person in my family who skis. I used to play roller hockey and one day the team organised a trip to a dry slope. I just found skiing so natural. Then the next year I signed up to my school ski trip and we went to some shitty mountain in Italy. I had rented everything (inc clothes!) but at the end of the week was trying 360's off a tiny kicked we built. I ended up breaking my back on the last day of that trip and it put me off for a while. 5 years later I decided to give snowboarding a try but couldn't control a board at all. That's when I got back on skis and realised it was the sport for me.
 
I now hate my self for this just cuz I was like 10 ft away from the people who are legends but I was watching some dew tour practice at Northstar a few years ago and it was so cool watching them and then I heard the name Simon dumont an went home googled him up started watching edits and now I'm here today
 
Rory Bushfield and Mark Abma in Yearbook, blew my fucking mind when I was 7, started skiing park because of those guys...
 
Parents put me into it when I was 3, but I was a short kid and the smallest boots they had went up to my knees, so I didn't enjoy that, straight up "quit" 30 minutes in. Got into snowboarding in grade 3 because that is when snowboarding became insanely cool. Switched to skiing in grade 6 I believe, loved it, never went back. But why I switched, I am not really sure and at this point I don't think it really matters to me.
 
parents got me skiing when i was like 3. then i got in to park around 11 after flipping through a freeskier at a local shop. i then bought it and worshipped it
 
Started skiing when I was 3. Got into park after looking through some Freeze magazines with the New Canadian Air Force
 
Started skiing when I was 4 because my parents also skied. I got interested in park skiing after watching Warren Miller's Storm.
 
I've been skiing since I was 2, started off one those little toy skis that you strapped on under my dad's legs, by 3 I was skiing by myself. Never did ski school or anything like that, just learned from my dad and my brothers and took off from there. I never was really into park, I did my first 3 when I was 11, just because my brother dared me. This is only my second serious year of park but I started because of the X Games and Tom Wallisch really.
 
I've been skiing since 3 or 4 with my family. In the 3rd grade I joined ski club with a friend and we started going up. Then we found the "minipark" one day and just started hitting a flat box with no urban or anything. Eventually some guy came over and started giving us tips and we were hooked ever since. Now whenever I see a little kid in the park i try to give some advice or whatever in the hopes he'll get hooked just like i did.
 
As with most people, parents taught me at 2.

Although I was riding park (just going side to side on halfpipe, going off some jumps) at 8-9. I actually got into park skiing and thought "Damn! This is sick!" When i visited Park City when I was 13 and was thinking "damn, this is where a good amount of pros ride" and just started watching videos from there. Also watching Abe Kislevitz's videos played some part in it. I actually only started to really like skiing when I was like 10. But i enjoyed it prior nonetheless.
 
My dad and uncle both ski and took me up for the time I was 3 till I was in Jr high and started going with friends families also, begging to go at any time possible.
 
I had always wanted to go snowboarding, so in 4th grade I took a snowboard lesson (still have the lift ticket). I sucked at snowboarding so I tried skiing and I could get down the hill, so I became a skier.
 
i grew up skiing, but this video was basically why I started skiing park, ive seen it so many times and I still love it
