soo the yankees signed teixeira, big fucking whoooop. I would bet good money the next deal they make in this off season will be Manny Ramirez... big fuckin whoop. The Steinbrenner Family is up to there old tricks of trying to buy a championship. If your a yankees fan and your rejoicing right now let me remind you of a couple of names that prove why this method does not work Damon, Giambi, Pavano, Mussina, Sheffield, Randy Johnson, A-Rod, Abreu. Look at the Tampa Bay Rays they have the lowest pay roll in the league and almost went this distance last year, i hate to brake it to you, but signing a bunch of egotistical meatheads that all think their #1 does not create good team chemistry. This definately betters their chances of making it to the play offs, but mark my words they will choke in October as usual.
 
FACT: the left side of the yankees infield was payed more than tampa bay rays team....the fact that they signed texeria is mind boggling

I've played almost every single sport at some highschool/college level (including football, hockey, lacrosse, basketball, and soccer) but will never play baseball because it takes almost no athletic ability and there's practically 0 involvement and teamwork when playing.
 
weve already argued about this brent, hitting a baseball is the single hardest thing to do in all of sports. and you never played basketball or soccer, silly!
 
lets not go there, trying to pick out a pitch in the strike zone and take a solid cut at a ball thats traveling 70 mph(the average high school pitcher) is not as easy as say, kicking a fucking ball.......aka soccer
 
alright, if I invented the hardest fucking sport imaginable, does that make it legit just because its hard? Just because it's hella hard doesn't mean its a good sport.

Most people who play baseball lack real athletic ability and would suck at any real sports.

true. but theres more placement involved in soccer than baseball, and there are 11 people trying to take the ball from you while you hit it. and theres a person blocking the goal, which is a smaller target than you have in baseball.

Since you've never played baseball why don't you shut the fuck up, because you clearly have no idea how hard it is when you get to a semi decent level (varsity at least).

As for the yankees, I love how everyone loves to hate. go jump on the red sox bandwagon. We'll see whose laughing in october. We didn't lose because of team spirit, we lost because we hit like shit, and we have a weak starting rotation.

yeah, how the fuck can this kid call baseball more boring than soccer, which is only entertaining to watch at the international level, aka euro leagues, NOT THE US, where as baseball is our national past time, a game that has made us wat we are, soccer is a 90 minute game where 1 or 2, 3 goals MAX come into play
and as for catchers go, great point, your getting a ball thrown 90+mph at your face, you squatting for hours on end, you have to be ready to get up and throw out anyone trying to steal a base, you have to call a game based on the batters preference and his hot spots, and you sweat bullets, which is an understatement to how hot it is with that mask on your face all day, if a pitcher misses the sign, and a catcher thinks a curve-ball is coming and gets a fast-ball, he is essentially dead, as for fielding, look at the amazing snags these guys make climbing walls to rob home-runs, this guy is a fucking idiot whoever he is trying to hate on baseballs athletic ability
 
alright, well...i pitched at the high school level with only 2 other starting pitchers, so i had to go 9 innings straight almost weekly. So yea...i've done it.

And then i also play soccer at the college level, as a goalkeeper. And i can honestly say that it is much much harder. And don't say you're just standing there, because it requires constant motion, and just about constant undivided attention. And in soccer i've got to constantly be aware of where everyone is and giving orders and directions.

And i'd say almost any save in soccer requires more athletic ability than most baseball plays. Baseball is definitely hard, and i loved playing it, but when it comes to athletic ability, i'd say it just doesn't compare
 
first off to be on topic with the thread...i hate the yankees, and i do not know how they can afford to sign mark texiera, aj burnette, and cc sabathia while having a-rod and derek jeter and not to mention the rest of their team has pretty solid contracts as well...i love my twins and always will, we play small ball and have a great shot next season with basically the whole team returning and liriano finally back after a stellar end o the season...some day we will put together the perfect team of guys nobody has ever heard of just like the always do...but right now the twins just make great players that get sent to great teams.

on this whole baseball subject being called out as not a tough sport, the reason i like baseball and love it...is for the exact reason that you don't have to be 6'1 210lbs and run a 4.5 40. anybody can have the skill to play some can't hit but they can field...some can field but they can't hit...thats what strategic batting orders are for...baseball is a game of strategy...and my favorite part of baseball is how every single pitch and every single at bat matter...because that one pitch can win you everything, or that mistake pitch that you let go can cost it all...thats why i will always love baseball.
 
give me more contact sports, baseball is easily the most boring sport because there are four or five teams that spend all the money and then you get 18 or whatever games a year of White Sox vs Kansas City YAY Baseball

baseball is definatly the easiest sport to practice for

but its definatly one of the hardest to get good at

but its kinda boring to sit in the outfield for 3 hours

thats why im switching from playing baseball to doing swimming

ill just get in better physical condition hopefully
 
The yankees are the shit no matter how good or bad they do. they have so much money cuase they have done so well. tell me one team whatever it is that rivals the yankeess...... there are none. who cares who they have or don't have. O yea the redsox are all gay. they have a couple of good players and only made it to the playoffs over the yanks cause the yanks were plagued by injury. And as for u that get yoour news from bob ryan, well bob ryan, enough said.

the yankees WERE the best sports franchise of all time when they had a cohesive team of talented players, not a group of superstars playing on the same team. they cannot win with what they have. it hasnt worked in the last 5 seasons, it most likely wont start now. the yankees are not the team they once were, and they need to actually work and play together, like any other team does, before they can win.
next tell me specifically why bob ryan is not a viable source of information. the Boston globe has perhaps the most extensive sports page with some of the best writers in the country, and i have read many of the nations major newspapers. i would really like a few specific details reasons WHY bob ryan does not fit the high standards of sports analysists that you are holding him to. the fact that you can name bob ryan proves he is successful, whereas i cannot name any solid sports writers for the yankees or one who works for the YES network.
last off, the yankees cannot continue to win if they are not currently winning. the devil rays beat both the yankees and red sox for many good reasons.
 
o its very tru that the yankees haven't performed in recent years. this is very upsetting. i now my point isnn't that valid i just needed some mindless bullshit to counter everyone else who has some kind of new england team logo in their icon. bob ryan is extremely baist as are most ppl when it comes to the yanks. ESPN hates the yankees. its a joke. i do agree that the yanks do try to buy themselves out or in some cases into problems. but imagine if the team u adore just bought three big time all stars.... how would u feel?

so no, no baseball team can ever be the best franchise. Simply because they never play internationally. If there was a tournament that had regular clubs going against each other worldwide, then maybe baseball can be comparable.

well bob ryan is biased because he is from boston area, which regardless of which side you are one, makes sense.
and i was bummed when the sox didnt get cc or texeira, and they both went to our biggest rivals. i would be fucking pumped if that happened though, i feel you man
 
Where to start oh where to start?? 1) There is 162 in a baseball season

2) There is 17 games in a football season

3) There is 18 games in Baseball between division teams soooooo the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals play 18 times a season.
 
The Phillies spend a pretty damn high amount of money on their payroll so provided they don't choke they will at least be back in the playoffs, but the Mets spend just slightly more on their payroll so they got a shot. To address the Tampa situation they will lose almost all their talent in the next couple of years cause they cant afford them.
