Why study??

Ok, so I'm taking this archaeology class at my school, and a lot of the material is extremely dry and the way the professor teaches it makes it even worse...So the first test, I studied a ton, and ended up getting a D...so I was pissed. Exam #2 comes around, and this test was much harder than the first one, and I'm super busy with other classes and study maybe an hour an a half at the most, and end up getting an A-....So im glad I did well on the test, but it seriously pisses me off that it can go either way whether you study or not, I just cant stand it when you put so much effort into studying and it doesnt pay off, then you don't do a damn thing for another one and do well. Does this happen to anyone else?

I agree with you to a certain point..but theres other factors involved, such as how the professor tests...

i agree that how well you know the stuff doesnt really mean shit. in my college calc class i taught some other kid everything on the test and i got something wrong based on algebra, not calc, and ended up with a C

I ski Killington

College passes are awesome

ofyen, if i am studying too much, the more i studied the less i knew.

i believe it has something to do with the short term and long term memory.

if you study, say, a lot right before the test, then you overload your short term memory, so then all you have is what you crammed in, and then, at least for me, i don't restitute the info as well as i could have if i had studied a bit during the week before the test.

and so if you didn't study, and got a good grade, that might have to do with no overload in short term, and you worked out of your long term, which is better when it comes to info restitution on some tests, if its general stuff.

or thats just a bunch of whooie and your teach didn't like your previous test at all...

It also has to do with how tired or sick or bored at the time of the test. Concentration is key. lol.

dont over study

plus, i learned from my psychology teacher, that if you keep things the same when youre studying and actually taking the test that you do better...like sit in the same chair that you sit in during class, use the same methods to remember info. that your teacher uses in class, etc...because while you are taking the test it will feel like you just had the class lecture and things will come to you more easily
