skiers go bigger because of the phsyics behind it. skiers go faster than any other non-motor sport out there, i can promise you. well, maybe besides bikes, but the pedals are almost considered as a motor. all and all, skiing is a faster sport than skateboarding, frootbooting, snowboarding, ect. thats why skier get bigger air, allowing them to spin more, flip more, ect. its not actually easier, its the physics behind the sport. notice how on flat ground you cant do shit on skis? now take a skateboard, you can do all sorts of crap. its all physics, baby doll. skiing is the man sport, it takes skill, and should be respected.

Uhh... if you strapped your feet to a skateboard and went down a fuckin huge hill w/ a ramp at the bottom you could go just as big.... skiers go big because they ski down an incline (hence not having to pedal) and we land in SNOW snow is SOFT. Snowboarders go bigger in the BC than we do too.

 
i don't know, but maybe it has to do with the physics of it. we have more edge area on our skis than a snowboard does on it's edges, and i think that effects turning speed, and friction and all that shit, and it is easier for us to turn faster because of the abundance of edge area. i don't know though, just a guess.

Velocity has nothing to do with it. It's all about force applied to force out. For instance, a figure skater can spin a 1080 with about 2 feet of air, they use their edges on a surface of little resistance. I'm kinda drunk.

take a skatepark, have a roll in to a launch ramp, let a skateboarder with ducttapped shoes do his thing. now cover that roll in and launch ramp in ice and let a skier hit it, i bet he would go bigger. skis are alot longer and skinnier than skateboards, and they dont have wheels. skiers will always go bigger.

i wouldnt say skiers go bigger...boarders go just as big, but its probably hard for you to realize that if you only watch ski movies. But skiers do have bigger dongs.

When was the last time you watched a snowboard movie? They definetly still go bigger than skiers, just look at any BC hit.

hmmm, now i wonder who would go bigger if they hit a jump at the finish line?

i'm pretty sure they weren't saying that all skiers go bigger than all snowboarders, but if there were a challenge of it, a skier could definitely go bigger than a snowboarder. ever seen a snowboarder jump over 300 feet? no, but every joe in the olympics for ski jumping can do that blindfolded. come on people, wake up here.

and one more thing, just because we can go faster and bigger than skateboarders doesn't make skiing a 'man's' sport. skating is 5,000 times harder than skiing will ever be and i have more respect for pro skaters than any pro skier (on a skill level, not a personal level) it is just on such a ridiculously higher level than skiing that i can't even explain it to you...

Whoever it was that said snowboarders go bigger in the backcountry is an idiot. Skiers drop like 120 foot cliffs and even bigger. have you ever seen a snowboarder attempt something like that cliff jeff holden did in ski movie. I dont think so. And skateboarding is probably the hardest sport one because its just hella hard and two because lots of other sports support their athelets better giving them a better reason to go out and kick their own ass everyday

skateboarding isnt hard unless you make it hard. the more you practice at something, the easier it gets. it all depends on what that certain person is doing. lets see bob burnquest on skis. he'd die.

 
They are both good sports and they both go big. However, I believe candide happens to have two good examples that give skiing a slight advantage at this point.

my opinion is that ur all dumb, if your talking physics, go to physics.com not NS, whatya thinking man, just joking man, in all reality snowboarders and skiers can go just as big, not one bigger than the other, but skiing, in my opinion has a lot more style and a lot more room for innovation and that is why OUR sport rules, we are revolutionizing the whole skiing scene and were all part of this awesome movement

hey physics is what's behind jumping. I used to build a few gap jumps accross a little river, and couldn't have succeeded in living if i had no clue how hi the hit needed to be.

thats true, if you want maximum height and distance (which would be closely propotional) you would make the jump at 45 degree angle, it is good to know a little bit of physics for this sport, very true

toe my friend you have got it so wrong .The are a thousand variables that affect the flight and 'air' of a skier. You can't just say that because you think skiing is the fastest non-motor sport, that is the reason for some guys getting huge airs!! I mean street luge is probably faster than skiing, skydiving, base jumping - i mean really the speed of a skiier, boarder, skater depends onthe gradient of the slope

BASICS of physics: the flight of an object through the air is affected by two forces, Gravity - ie:up and down and velocity - speed. Both of which have no effect on the other. If a skier was 10ft off the ground and had a velocity of 0 mph, he would drop straight down, if the same skier was 10ft in the air and had a velocity of 20mph in the skier's forward direction he would still fall at the same rate but as he falls hes travelling at 20mph for roughly 0.33 seconds. Do do the math if you travel at 20mph for 0.33 seconds you will travel approx. 8ft (now theses are very rough calculations off the top of my head)But then you have to think; a different height or weight (inc. hardwear) would require a different take off speed to obtain the same air. But wait then you gotta think of the complex physics while flying through the air, drag, wind resistance, is the skier aerodynamic, length of skis...... Oh hang on is it a windy day?? what direction is the wind blowing?? Oh wait how hot is it today? air temp has a minute effect of flight. Take off position and rotation speed also has an impact

so see toe my friend its not just how fast you hit the jump. A snowboarder of a skiboarder can get just as much air or even more given the right circumstances.

And yes its all physics but i don't think you understand physics very well......so stop running around proclaiming that you're king of physics. I'll give you props for spelling the word right though

yeah, skiing has waaaay more style. how many different combos of a trick can a boarder do? not too many. look at how many different grabs and crosses and shit skiers can throw in. but the goin bigger part i don't know about, i think it just depends on the rider.

very well said schlogs, you in high school physics? Im in both AP Physics and AP Calc this year and that was a good and accurate position on the whole phsics thing, there are way too many variables to say that one is better than the other becuz one is a skier, props to schlogs

Skiers generally do go bigger because yes, they go faster. Speed skiers accelerate faster than F1 motor cars, yes, pretty quick you could say. If you put a skier and a snowboarder on the same jump with the same run in and the exact same line they would probably go much the same height. chuck them in the b/c and boarders usually do go bigger, skiers are starting to go bigger now though but boarders have been at it a fuckload longer so experience comes into it a lot.

If you guys actually want to have a sensible arguement then go get some bloody facts and learn about physics before you jump in and open your mouth. If you don't know what you're on about then shut the fuck up.

The reason why snowboarders go bigger is not b/c of experience. It is physics, it is easier to kick yourself off a jump because your legs are connected to 1 plank, not 2. Also boards, well now, are made for this. They have been for 10 years. Also for pow, because of their floatation.

The aerodynamics behind snowboarders let them accelerate faster if the skier isn't pumping his skis or anything> i think that is why they can go big in the pipe, its cuz with accelerating on something like that their aerodynamics help.
