Why Shovel the Stairs?

In almost all urban edits/movies I see, everyone always shovels off the stairs next to the handrail. I understand that it makes it higher consequence and promotes visual pleasure or something, but I just feel like especially on long handrails it is wasted time but I don't know. What are the benefits and why do people do it? Thoughts?

yep, you answered your own question. of course it seems dumb to anyone that isn't pro or trying to be haha. i havent meticulously cleaned stairs in years, fuck that

Most likely because skateboarders hit hand rails with the stairs open, and then snowboarders shoveled their stairs, because hey, its not very street if the stairs are covered. Then skiers did the same.

It's kind of retarded honestly. I think it's funny when people call people our SERIOUSLY about it. I personally think it looks cleaner and I shovel snow for a living so why not but if somebody doesn't wanna who cares.

As long as you aren't taking shoveled stairs and burying them in snow it's all good.

Also the answer is that 1/4 senior citizens has been involved in a serious fall. 2/3 of those falls have involved stairs. The average US city is comprised of 20% seniors. If you leave the stairs unshoveled you're basically saying you hate 20% of the population and that you want to hurt 1/4 of them 2/3 of the time. Can you live with that? I didn't think so.

Haha this.

Stairs are already difficult in ski boots, why make it harder as you hike back up to hit the rail by leaving the snow on? You wouldn't want to slip and hurt yourself. Can you imagine how much shit you would get if you were the guy who had to go to the hospital because he fell BEFORE hitting an urban rail?

A few reasons:

1) It looks better

2) It's easier to get up cleared stairs than stairs with snow on them

3) It can be used as an excuse if your going to get busted early on. I've gotten away with "oh, I'm just shoveling the stairs so no one slips down them," they say "oh, thanks" and then never come back to check on what I'm doing after I've cleared the stairs.

It makes the consequences higher which in turn motivates you to not fuck up. I've hit a handrail without snow, got it third try. Coincidence? maybe...

because bumping your knee on a step means you've endured the rough side of life and now makes you a gangster

shovel stairs for senior citizens!

yuss

it's part of what makes urban.. urban

consider it similar to women waxing their pussy. even though it's unnecessary, people prefer things a certain way and theres all sorts of different justifications/ excuses they'll be willing to give

(really it just looks better.. plain and simple)

I work in a terrain park that's got a stairset, and I get to shovel that bitch out every time it snows so that our paying clientele can have the feeling that they're riding urban when they're actually on a glacier at 9000 feet.

I can understand someone shoveling the steps at their urban spot. But me shoveling out a park stairset so resort skiers can feel like it's urban? That gets a bit annoying after the tenth time it snows.

The strugs man, why do you not appreciate/ enjoy your job at the park In the beautiful mountains?

The fact of the matter is it does make it more visually appealing, and honestly when you spend 3 hours trying to get the shot you might as well spend the extra 15 shovelling the stairs.

I love the shot in 10 and 2 when the crew is literally scraping ice off stairs to get to concrete

hahaha yup. though im pretty sure the majority of the shots in stept movies don't make any sense in the context of real life

"why are you shoveling those stairs?"

"oh, so it's way more dangerous if i fall"

"oh right right"

Hum, yeah i guess.

I personally do it so that i can walk down the stairs after pussying out of the first hit. Or to make sure I eat complete shit when I fall so that i'm not tempted to hit a way above skill level feature again.

srsly op

Never even noticed this.. But I kinda feel like you're trying a little too hard if you're specifically clearing the stairs so it looks cooler and more badass. Its not like a light layer of snow is gonna dampen the damage of eating shit on concrete anyways.

Idk I don't ride urban, but if I did I probably wouldn't waste the time of making it look like what I'm doing is harder than it is just to make some kids on newschoolers cream themselves.

Unless I was a serious production company who made money off newschoolers kids who cream themselves. Then I'd definitely do it.

along with the answers above, it's good karma. one less thing for someone to do in the morning when they get to work, school, etc...

It's cuz when you need ya Volvo wagon to toe you up stairs it's guna get stuck in the snow but with no snow on the stairs it glides right up them shits.
