Why Poters Tahoe is Legit

I got a pair of Salomon sth 12's from them back in september and got them super quick. Last week, I emailed them asking if they could send me stickers. Yesterday, I got a ton of stickers plus a special edition TGR surfing DVD. I thought that was pretty cool that they sent me the dvd, mad props to them for great customer service.

Yeah, I've always had great transactions with Porters, I've gotten a free mousepad, DC mountain lab dvd, tons of stickers, and belt for free with my stuff. They always ship on time, and have great prices. A while ago there was a thread asking whether porters was legit, So I backed them up in the thread, saying they were legit, and the owner of the store pm'd me with a discount code for reccomending their store. Very legit, to say the least.

yeha porters tahoe is super legit

i recommend them to anyone they are real good with helping their customers too

i got look px12 jibs for $100 last year which was a sick deal

definitely a legit store

super fast service, great prices, and always something extra in your box, i got a few HUGE die cuts with my bindings

I've had nothing but good experiences with Porters. I got my stuff internationally within a couple of days. The customer service on the phone and via email is great and quick. They're pretty much the shit.

porters tahoe WAS legit, about 20 years ago when Gene Seitz managed the store. let me put it this way: i have had 7 pairs of skis mounted there and only one pair was done perfectly. they have done everything to my skis, stripped screws, mounted at the wrong spot, not mounted the skis centered (edge to edge), drilled through skis. move heel pieces when they were supposed to move toe pieces, used p-tex to fill old binding holes, not to mention trashing my brand new bases. the list goes on and on. so, they may have "ok" prices (same prices as anywhere else in tahoe), but they are the most incompetent ski techs in the business. NEVER HAVE SHOP WORK DONE THERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR GEAR!!!!

It's interesting to hear a different take on it. Sounds like they need to hire a few new techs. How did the shop react to your complaints about the fuck ups?

I've only dealt with their online store which has been perfect.

i havent been compensated whatsoever. probably because i was paying them with beer. bastards should have waited till they were done mounting to get drunk though. since i live less than a mile from their main store, i have no experience with them online. i should thank them though, since after they fucked my skis up so many times, i just got a job at a shop and do all my own mounts now, so if my mount gets fucked up, i have no one to blame but myself. on that note, if anyone needs shopwork done in the Tahoe City area, i highly suggest Squaw Valley Sport Shop in TC

super dope shop, I was buying my skis and helmet for this year, and I saw a THall oakley crowbar poster. The poster was super rare too. And I asked them if they would give it to me, and they straight up gave an extra that they had, no charge, sick ass poster too.

The one time I bought something from the company they were so fast (like next day or day after whatever). Sent me a couple of stickers too and i only ordered like something under $30. Such a ballin company.

Definitely one of the sickest, if not the sickest stores ever. Their customer service is second to none.

It's not that other companies aren't good, because most are, but everytime I've ordered from Porters they go above and beyond.

One time I went to a porters party and hung out with JT holmes. Ok, I talked to him briefly, but it was still neat. [/claim]

But I have had nothing but awesome experience with porters, and have more porters stickers than I know what to do with.

They are super rad and everyone that works there is super nice. I have even seen people of color working, which is crossing many boundaries.

poters is so legit...i got 15% off my pants...they had so much more selection than backcountry did.

i got like 3 6x2 inch "porters" with the little curved line over the top and 2 like 18x2 inch of just "porters". super sick too, they are yellow and green and blue

Not sure who you actually are or if there's some shenanigans going on with the spammy nature of how you put things vis-a-vis us vs SVSS, but I'd like to set the record straight.

I'm "Chappy" the main owner (we have my family plus several employee / manager / owners) and if you do live around here and have for a long time then you'll know that if there is ANYTHING wrong with your experience at Porters that I'm easy to track down and I will ALWAYS do you right.

I find it quite odd, though, that you would say what you did. Our two main backshop techs in Tahoe City are John Houston (east coast techy trained with a decade of experience) and Kyle O'neal (semi pro / big mountain skier / been in a film or two / and great friends with JT Holmes and a lot of the Squawllywood pros). Those two do EXCELLENT shop work and I'll put them up against anyone in the area. If you have a problem, they'll fix it and do it for free. So if you are local you should know at least who Kyle is and know that he's a great guy and would never fuck up your stuff.

And if you're really old enough (like I am I'm 38) to remember Porters 20 years ago, you'd certainly NOT be saying that we were legit 20 years ago versus now. Porters used to be a decent, average mountain shop with nothing too spectacular in terms of brands, selection, and customer service. It certainly wouldn't have been a spot that many NS types would shop at. It also wasn't a spot that a ton of true locals shopped at.

Over the last 6 years, though, we have completely transformed ourselves. More selection. Better prices. Full online shopping. And a 100% commitment to customer satisfaction including lifetime returns and an unconditional satisfation guarantee with your gear http://www.porterstahoe.com/faq/returns.asp . We have a permanent local's 10% discount that SVSS doesn't do as well.

So I'm not here to be confrontational - and if you did in the past have a legitimate bad experience - let me make it up to you. Email me at chappy@porterstahoe.com and put me to the test.....

Gotta big up Porters and Chapman...

They fucked up mounting some of my skis 2 years ago and Chappy hooked me up with a $100 gift certificate and remounted the skis for free after admitting that they were mismounted. I was pissed when I skied down the palisades with 1 ski, but Chapman made it right.

BIGGUP PORTERS!

SVSS is the WORST store on the north shore with exception of Daves. Whether it be in Squaw or TC they are not only rude, but dont seem to show any interest in making money... maybe I better rephrase that; they have no interest in helping out locals that dont dish out cash every time they walk in the door.

See ya in the BC Chappy... my REV is all ready for the next storm.

Just wanted to say that yes Porters is totally legit. Amongst other things, they support myself, JT Holmes, Sean Fields, and the list goes with amazing athletes and athletes that are up and coming. I've had all of my skis mounted there for years and years and they have always come out perfect. The guys who work and run the shop know what they are talking about and are super knowledgeable about everything skiing related, they are skiers and snowboarders themselves and are all passionate about the sport. They like to have fun and are great to work with. I totally back that store and think that they are doing a great job keeping it core and passionate.

bumping this up because I have yet another great customer service story from Porters. I ordered a pair of Elizabeths for the lowest price you could find, and I noticed today after I ordered them three days ago that they haven't been shipped. So I asked on the live chat on Porter's website, and when they were packaging the skis, there were some scratches on the bases. So they ended up sending them into the shop to get tuned, and they even upgraded my shipping for free. this is why I love Porters and will always go there first for business.

they were happy about me praising their service in a thread so they gave me a discount code when i bought

yea same, i got one when i originally made this thread and another one when i recommended them in another thread. I thought the second time was over doing it. I felt like I was taking advantage of them.

def cool guys on the floor there. Are they with poter brothers in NY????? Thats where i shop in the east. But i stopped by the store once in fall

Bought some PE's and an aeryx jacket for such a sick deal there a few years ago, gave me free copies of war, tbc and 7 sunny days just cuz.
LEGIT
