Why Permaban?

I think IP and MAC addresses come into this as well. So if you're banned, you'd need a vpn to create a new account...

From what I understand there are 3 levels of banning:

Temp ban - a temporary ban for a given time decided by the banning mod/admin

Perma ban - a permanent ban on the users account, therefore they lose all their stats, and access to editing their media and profile

IP ban - a ban on the users IP and MAC address as well as a perma ban on their account, effectively ending the users ability to regularly log into the site (even if they create an alias)

Of course there are ways around these things...it is the internet after all. Temp and perma ban still gives users access to alias's, however it means starting over essentially. I know people who have been perma banned and just stopped coming on the site because they didn't want to bother making a new account and having to gain their reputation all over again.

Permanent bans can be lifted and happen all the time. Usually permabans are just used for alias' but sometimes on members that don't get the hint and keep breaking rules.

IP ban is another can of worms, you really have to fuck up to make that happen and its likely it won't be lifted.

Yes, unless its an alias. Whenever a legit account gets permabanned they are given the option to email the mods and plead their case.

Unless your levels of douchebaggery exceed all tolerability, I can't honestly see many situations where we wouldn't un-do a permaban to change it to like a month or two month ban if you email and honestly apologize and acknowledge your screw up.

... Although with some people we've banned them 5 times for the same thing and they keep doing it. Not a lot of faith in those cases.

One time, like 2008, I got my wholes houses' IP banned so the other 5 members who lived in my house couldnt log on. It was quite funny.
