Just some guesses based on my industry knowledge...
SoCal is a sort of "Hub" for action sports companies... Hurley, Nixon, Fox, Vans, Dragon, Electric, and the big one - Oakley. I believe there may have been some close ties between Oakley and Armada in the beginning - in the 1242 days, so that would be my best guess as to how they ended up near by.
I'm not sure where they were originally manufacturing skis, but if it was in China, it's much easier to get there from California then Utah or Colorado for example.
