Why not to Poach a Closed Park

I agree that closures are there for a reason. I went to duck a rope on a closed area on a pow day and had the whole little face where I was slid out from under me. Scared the shit out of me.

damn i dont see how he didnt see it when it came over the knucle. i like how he is so scared he just kinda sits down but then kinda just rides away.

Out west, if you go into a closed area, you can not only kill or injure yourself, but many others if you set off a slide that does into an occupied area.

Not respecting closures is just stupid.

about a month and a half ago.

i hate not having a computer directly in my house. its annoying and takes forever to get back to thses things

There are appropriate places and times to poach, and inappropriate ones. If you don't have the experience to discern between the two, you probably should stay out of closed areas. Everybody knows poaches are the best pow stashes. Not only do you get to ski the goods that no one else is seshing, but you also get the thrill of the chase, which adds a little extra excitement. It's always rad to poach something thats in view of a chairlift, because you know you gotta get in and get out without stopping or fucking up cause you might get caught. Poaching park shit is a little different story, and usually just not worth it. But for the chron stashes sometimes its the best way to go, if you can assess hazards like avies, cliffs, and low base, etc. realistically. Closures shouldn't always be respected, sometimes they're there just so gomers don't get hurt, which is good. It doesn't bother me, it's not very hard to get past a rope.

Who is retarded here?

Unlles your super x ray vision can see through the jump and onto the landing, there is no way you can see that cat from above.

You are an idiot and deserved to get hurt.

You are also probably the main reason why parks need passes now too.

Oh yeah and you are reallllllly cool for admitting that your a poacher.

that was intense like indian sex. wholy cow.

I wouldnt even call that a train... more like a nascar race with jumps.

I always wonder why ski patrol guys bother to get so worked up. If no one got hurt, and it was super gnarly, then why be mad? Just tell your grandkids you once saw 40000 kids hit your park all at once.

poaching a closed park doesn't seem like the best idea but i can understand poaching a closed backcountry or glade run if you know it well and are a confident enough skier. We ski lines through the woods that are closed all the time back east simply b/c we know what we are getting into.

yes, i'm retarded because i hit closed jumps in an open park.

Yeah i'm the main reason places have park passes. Definitely not because they don't want little kids in there and people that don't know what their doing. Its because of me. Im probably the main reason RCR doesn't have jumps anymore either.

Coolest poacher ever too, you just wish you could be cool and poach.

Fucktard

2 words that are good for everyone:

PARK PASS

it's the only solution. keeps the people who have no idea what they're doing out of the park, which means less injuries to them and to those of us who know what we're doing but have to bail to avoid hitting these people who have no idea what they're doing. it's a problem at every single resort and it needs to be dealt with.

Youre partially correct.

Park passes dont work if any joey can get one.

There is very few places that will stand up to the customer and say, ok sorry rad dad, you cant take your 5 year old in here no matter how rad you think you are.

ummm....idk about you, but i cant see the entire landing until im in the air, and the cat just reached the knuckle as he is on the lip, so im pretty sure anyone going off the jump would not have noticed the cat until it was to late, but yes this guy is an idiot

qualification would have to be part of the criteria for this. I have heard of a few places that make you take a course/prove yourself as a competent person to whoever is giving you the pass.

the VTO train vid brings back memories lol

yeah, at my mountain when they close a feature, you can tell its closed. they fucking blockade the thing off

Why not? If you know where you're going and what you're doing a poached run isn't any different than an open one, there's usually just more pow.

Actually if you crank the volume and listen you can hear the guys infront of the jump yelling at him not to hit it

soo truueee so many of the ski patrol in ontario is 40 year olds who dont no shit and cant ski but think they are the most powerful people in the world so annoying

that was sick, he should of tapped the cat, would of been so steezy, but in all honesty poaching the park is cool sometimes you get it freshly groomed which is always good.

Happened the other day where I ski. They only had the small park open because they were shaping the jumps in the big park. This was at like 9pm, so they were just going to leave it closed till the next day. But this one kid decides its a good idea to go hit the jumps before anyone else, and not 5 minutes later there's probably 20 kids going through. What's worse is that its rained for the past two days, so anyone that didn't poach the jumps is outta luck for a few more days atleast.
