Why not more step-ups?

I may not be looking hard enough, but I was just thinking that there aren't too many of them, and to me they seem like the perfect jump. They seem like there would be little room for injury, which would mean more people trying new stuff. I've never hit one before so maybe it's not as easy as it seems, but i just wanted to hear some opinions.

theres a great one at meadows this year, you can just huck fives then land comfortably

sammy hits a sick one in corduroy. and i wouldnt call them safer. if you come up short on one of those bad boys its gonna hurt.

true, but if you think about it, by the time you're getting near the top of the landing, almost all of your speed is gone since the upward movement slowed you down. and same thing if you overshoot.

PC's last two jumps in the 4 jump line are kinda step ups, more of step overs.

they are way fun but to hit a good sized step up you have to charge into it so i could still see people getting hurt

wait, i may be wrong here.... but arent step ups where you land on FLAT ground like going up and landing on the deck, and step overs are where you would go up and just barly go over the top part.

so wouldnt you always case on step ups?

That's one kind of step up but those are for the MASSIVE ones such as the one jon olsson does in ski porn.

The others are where you go up and over the flat but the landing is higher than the jump.

I call both varieties just plain step ups. Landing is higher than take off. Lots of fun, but to make one you need a good place to put one in your park, and a lot of snow.

god i see epic hits on them in like ski porn and shanghai 6 and can only imagine. i want to hit one soooo bad. it seems like you would just float and then glide onto your feet with no pressure from coming down. i will die happy having hit one

motion is slowed down in the vertical direction, so if the landing isnt very steep on the backside (like if you dont clear it), it wont hurt, but since your horizontal speed is constant, if it is too steep, its gonna hurt just as bad.

one step up per park would be plenty.

theyre funny, some days theyre sooo sick, some days theyre not.

too many people hit them in one day and all the wuuuuuuuuuuuuuu is gone. then you land knucks super hard, its not sweet as!

but they are pretty great.

ask your park to build one, maybe they will.

mt spokane is building a massive dope step up. it wasnt finished when i saw it but it was like 8-10 feet the landing was.

Big step ups with long steep landings make me orgasm all over the place. Safest type of jump, because you do not have very much downward velocity when you land.

lol you cant have cased on any big step ups? hitting the wall on a huge step up hurts! what about that guy who broke his hip or something at candides?

Only thing with step ups it that you must have alot more speed than you think, atleast the first times

They take alot of snow to build in most park locations at resorts because of the pitch of the hills

Yeaaaaaaaa i havent hit a step up since liket he beggening of last year my home resort used to have a step up and a huge transfer but so many lil gaper queers kept slamming into the side wall of the landing so they had to take it down.......

it's definitely pretty sketch. i straightlined it all the way from the banister rail without a single speed check, threw a 180, and came up about 5 feet short the first time. did not feel good.

ya they do take a lot more snow to build so most mountains would rather just build two tables than one step up

my mountain had one last year and this year too. And what's nice is you get a bonus hip at one end of it to huck off of.

stepups are maaaad fun. i definetly wich people would make more of them. if you get close to the top you prolly wont get to hurt if it is a pretty steep stepup, but i dunno how it would be for really learning tricks. not quite as much hangtime.

forward has a pretty sick step up section i forget who the skier was where he has to clear a little rock gap to hit it first and long story short has a pretty nice one too

^it's DC and Downey in Forward, JP is sick on step ups too with his buttery smoooth rodeo 5 mutes

i think that step-ups are only cool in the BC. i dont find NEARLY as cool as when they are made on purpose or in a park (i.e. candide invitational)

well step-ups would increase injury if they are too big, cuz you can get a shit ton of speed and case it. but they are sweet, there was some massive step-ups in the movies WAR and SHANGHIA SIX last year and then one in SKI PORN this year. but im not sure of any in ski mountains this year.
