So, i got high and was thinking that what sucks is you dont really see people doing urban switch tricks. Its like taking half the tricks out of the equation. Anybody have any videos of people hitting urban switch?

lol did you miss tom doing sw 2 and sw 4 disaster last year?

cheddar does sw 2 alot too.

Mostly, you're seeing less switch because people are hitting huge features and/or theyre using a bungie/winch and its harder to pop switch.

But OP you're too high.

Getting a tow in switch is difficult and there is usually little room to switch up on the run in if they start forward.

Terrible excuse. These guys are professionals and I expect better.

Fireworks on the tips to boost them switch into the rails? I'll get my duct tape

I can hold a wakeboard tow rope behind my back and ride, why can't a pro?

Thank you mr. bishop you seem to be the only one in this thread FOR progression.

I don't really mind not seeing a lot of switch onto urban rails. If you compare to snowboarding, the equivalent in skiing of switch riding in snowboarding would be unnatural. In snowboarding and skateboarding, you see a good amount of switch riding in urban, as in skiing, people don't really seem to notice as much when someone is hitting a rail unnatural. That being said, I think there's a lot of tech tricks that have been done in the park but have yet to be done on urban rails

you ever tried hitting a sketchy urban setup switch? thats why.

That's a bad excuse though. I mean I remember seeing Pep 270 onto a rail at high north in like 2001. It seemed like a fucking impossible superman feat.

I learned it a year later and that shit was something that almost nobody did.

Nowadays any fucking nine year old who has been park skiing for fifteen minutes can 270 k-fed or whatever the fuck you call it these days.

I mean Jesus there was a day when a cab 10 was fucking mind blowing. Compare that to a nosebutter triple cork million spin and I think that figuring out how to jump on urban switch isn't a huge step of logic.

Frank Raymond Craig Crocker are some of some people i remember doing switch urban. and since kingsskier started talking about fireworks on skis... @:37 but you will enjoy every second.

holy fuck this looks like the best movie ever. i gotta find it

Even Sigstad has been doing them for years in Field prod.-movies:

This is just a bonus edit, and it has only 2 shots of switch stuff, but you get the idea. He probably has the greatest urban switch 2s on, along with Laporte.

Dom has a few good ones in here:

not to be a nitpicker but im pretty sure that didnt happen in 2001/2002

but your point stands, what seems impossible in a lot of cases is possible. but that doesnt mean it isnt sketchy as FUCK. hitting urban switch fuckin blows

i think considering how sketchy it is we see it quite a bit. some shots that come to mind are clayton's switch 2 into that dfd and wallisch's sw4 on (really great shots, both of em, bravo) and i feel like there are plenty of sw tails and sw lips

I think you might need to expand your urban viewing horizons. People are doing switch urban all the time. It requires a lot more work and almost perfect timing, so it's not as common as forward tricks, but they are certainly out there. I'm pretty sure almost every segment in All Damn Day that featured urban has at least one switch urban shot (including Karl's switch 6 on).

i hate to be a nitpicker but yes it was. Pep in PBP happy dayz to that de la soul song. i also remember watching that and my mind was blown.

Also, for those of you saying that it is too sketchy or hard..... not too long ago halfpipe runs had zero switch hits, look where we are now. switch urban has room to improve.

I just put my outerwear and goggles on backwards and pretend I'm dropping switch.

you do realize your face is the same direction forward and switch

Also ive heard of switch onto rail but what about urban jumps/trannyfinds/tap features?

First of all, if you haven't seen any switch urban tricks, you probably haven't watched enough ski videos. I think the reason why it isn't very popular in urban is because the main focus is usually doing big, gnarley, original stuff, not technical tricks. And not only is hopping into switch before hitting an urban feature when using a bungee difficult, it also looks pretty dumb.. when you're using a bungee you are obviously looking to get as much speed as possible, so hopping into switch is going to slow you down, and doing it 10 feet before the takeoff looks stupid in my opinion. When there is natural speed available it would make more sense, because you could hop into switvh earlier, or drop in switch.

Sammy Carl definitely had a few switch tricks in one of the PBP movies (maybe Revolver?)

Plus you gotta keep in mind, and I am sure this has been said, but I am assuming it is much harder to get speed for switch tricks in an urban setting.

I have to disagree with this. There is switch urban shots in every movie every year. But the overwhelming majority of shots are forward. And the reason for this, I think, is because it is so much more difficult and time consuming. You're at a spot and you're probably going to get busted within the hour, you want to get a good shot. There are hundreds of tricks you can do. Whats the incentive to mess around trying to figure out how to drop in switch.

That being said when people do hit urban features switch it's definitely noticed. For example, watching Will Wesson in the level 1 movies, guy is nuts.

That photo was taken summer 2002. That staircase rail slid about 20' away from the jump when there was a huge melt one night. Before we had a chance to fix it, Pep just rolled in and 270'd the gap like it was nothing.

So I don't know if you were insinuating that the timeline is too early or too late, but I can validify that it was exactly 2002. I don't think that was the first ever 270 on, but I just remember how crazy it was to see.

holy shit youre totally right. his happy dayz segment (2002) even starts with him hitting that rail a bunch of times, including a 270 in.. my b!
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xua1l_pep-fujas_news

here's my question now though: why does he do a right 270 on but not left, when he naturally spins left and hits rails left foot forward? 'cause he's a boss' is probably the answer but shit, i dont remember seeing another 270 in for a bit after that, and his was rightside. but i guess maybe he did both and that one happened to look better for the shot or something idk

thanks for the post and story man, very cool
