Why no indoor hills in the US?

I always see indoor snow hills in urban areas all over the world in other countries, but never in the US. Europe is filled with them. I think they would be extremely successful in the states. The year round aspect makes it much easier to gain profit. I think one is being built, or was recently built somewhere on the east coast, but I'm pretty sure that is it. Does anyone know why this not a big industry in the states? Do people just think it won't catch on, or are their other reasons?

And we have these things called seasons where it snows only when it's cold, or winter...

This is a serious question though. Microsoft has way more money than Dubai, why can't they build some Ski Seattles, Ski NY's, and Ski whereever's??? Screw Ski Dubai. NO, screw the middle east!!! Rich tards. I hate them.

I know they're building one near the meadowlands in NJ. Seems like it would be fun in the summer but its prob gonna way too expensive.

i was in new york 2 weekend ago for my cousins weeding and i drove past this building and i was like WHAT THE HELL IS THIS BUILDING ITS HUGE!!!!!!! thats sooo sick its gunna crazy cooool

Supposed to open this summer. Will probably be really pricey, but I'd say it'd be worth it to go a few times for those of us that aren't close to hood or whistler.

This is a really good question. It's a bummer we don't have these in every U.S. City for everyone who doesn't have snow or doesn't have the resources to travel to the mountains! Unfortunately they cost a ton of $$, insurance is off the charts expensive, and believe it or not, a lot of people don't want these to be built in their backyard (NIMBY). Add in all of the development permits, environmental reviews, etc and it can take 10 or more years to get a project of this magnitude off the ground. The Las Vegas Wet project looks pretty cool though - as do the Long Island, the aforementioned Meadowlands Xanadu project, and Atlanta projects.

I don't know, I think it's a good thing. They leave behind a pretty large carbon footprint. Just think... they have to cool a huge warehouse, make artifical snow.. etc...

You guys need to get some more dryslopes though. Indoor hills just tend to be not steep enough, way too short. I guess for people who are into park alone it's ok, but even then the rails and stuff probably won't be big because any indoor hills tend to be packed with people. I've been to a couple of indoor hills and the park section is rarely fully open which kinda sucks. And ya.. it's expensive.

Dryslopes the way forward for summer skiing for those who want it?

The Bearfire Group will transform Texas into a winter wonderland like

no other. Situated on a 250 foot tall 35 acre landscaped man-made

mountain structure, Glacier Peak will keep you busy for days with over

a mile of multiple expert and intermediate ski runs and jumps.

Glacier Peak Mountain Terrain Park will feature a complete snowboard

park with pipes as focal points, including multiple small and large

freestyle jumps, table tops, and rails. The Bearfire Resort plans to

host ongoing events and competitions.

The Glacier Peak will be a natural themed mountain environment with

rock spires and coves, a giant glacier, ski cave tunnels, a translucent

glacial-water lake, waterfalls, and creeks that cascade down beneath

hovering pines.

Utilizing environmental friendly technology, Glacier Peak will e

nvelope you in an atmosphere that is 15 to 20 degrees cooler than the surrounding area.

Bearfire…..jump into it!

Ding ding ding!

Yes, I know that Europe does too, but there's something missing when people are skiing indoors.

I went to the one in Dubai.

the snow was not amazing (living in the okanagan im pretty spoilt) yet i thought it was quite good.

the problem with the indoor ski hill is that they cant make them very big as it costs a fortune to run it, even for dubai.

If I ever have a shit load of money ill build one but thats never going to happen. and for the record woodward at copper is only snowflex its not actual snow

i dont even know if the xanadu in jersey is gonna be worth it ?? anyone actually check out the slope ? its like 150 meters long at like 15 degree pitch. itd be nasty if it was just a rail park... but that aint gonna happen.
