Why isnt the World in Chaos?

See, I'm not just talking crazies and fundamentalists though. Those make up a small portion of society in comparison to the group I'm pondering.

The people I'm worried about are those that society has completely engulfed. People who feel so nameless and insnificant in a world of celebrities, mall shopping and caffine that they ultimately get dragged into complete self sufficiency and amusement. Take for example, the ever growing boards and forums out there. People can go home after work with their friends and turn into another character, a faceless character, that has little consequence from their actions from afar. The best example of this is 4Chan. Behind complete nameless anonimity, people act and behave ways they never would face to face with another person. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go browse that site for a few minutes.

What happens when this type of person gets bored? When the internet no longer gives enough addictive amusement? You turn that boredom and insatisfaction into the real world. You realize that in numbers, in anonimity, you can create chaos and sit back and watch the fun unfold, with no consequences.

19 hijackers from the Middle East were able to bring down an icon of New York city and kill thousands of people. What could ten million dissatisfied and bored nameless and faceless people do?

it comes down to people being good. i truely believe that for every bad apple there is 10 genuinely good people.

it is the mix of your everyday man, your people who don't give a fuck, your intelligent man and so forth that just keep everything moving.

every generation is the same in their different ways. though you cant compare a lot of things directly, every generation has their indivualists, their terrosits........8 trak instead of CD and basically anything you can think of.

i am sure the everyone thought the world was going to end when the first world war hit, then again with world war 2. but it didn't.

the world may have a little cold right now, so to speak, but if we haven't broken out in to chaos in the last 100 years with everything that has happened then i don't see why it should suddenly fuck itself.

and, about that lugnut thing, don't be a dick rowen. a lot of people help other people just because. maybe for no other reason but then.....why not?

sounds like live free or die hard.

i guess we just have to hope that there are real john mcclains out there too.

its okay, but he could have said the same thing in half of what was written, i just think he found an interesting topic, and wrote about it, but while doing so he decided to add substance that didnt really enhance the subject all because he likes to hear himself talk. The writer should become a college english professor. thats my suggestion.

the other day i saw a guy drop $5, i picked it up and gave it to him, he probably wouldn't have noticed, and it's not that significant.

the other day i saw a purse left on the ground in front of an information booth, the guy at the information booth pointed the lady who left it there out to me and i chased her down to tell her that she left her purse at the information desk.

what motivation could i have had to do this? I mean it feels good to help someone like that, but it didn't really benefit me THAT much. My main motivation is that i know it sucks when something like that happens to me, and i didn't want them to unnecessarily deal with that sort of anxiety. It's not pure selflessness, but give credit where it's due, people DO act selflessly.

hey, for once in my life i agree with you....

o Rowen, i had absolutely NO alterer motivation for letting the guy know he was missing lug nuts. it was an empty parking lot, no spectators, i was doing something nice. and you know what? it felt dam good.

Oh ok, I see where you are coming from. In response however, the thing that keeps that from occurring is the fact that retaliation has ensued every such act in the past (every significant one anyway). Just like police don't eliminate crime, but the guy considering robbing a gas station will usually be repelled by the likelihood that he will get caught.
