Why is Weed illegal and Alcohol legal?

did you notice that the beginning of pineapple express is the same place where they grow all the shit at the end

ive never actually seen it all the way through... ive tried 3 times and each time i started at like 3am and got to about where he sees the murder and then i pass out for the night

Yup but if you get as baked as I did a while ago then it's not good news. I wasn't me. My soul was in my hands and it was telling me what to do. I was in my own world and it's a damn good thing I didn't go out into a place with lots of people.
But yes. Weed makes you chill and calm, while alcohol makes you more aggressive/rowdy and promotes dumb decisions. I do love to drink. However, with one illegal and one not, it really should be the other way around...

its because if it weed was legal and alcohol was illegal there would be a bunch of kids on NS complaining about how alcohol is illegal

alcohol prohibition was for like 10 or 15 years. weeds been illegal since the beginnning of the 20th century. if thats the direction were heading in.

plus how else will you have an excuse to do bad shit if alcohol were illegal. weed doesn't have any real effect on society so why make it legal. just makes you lazy, you can't blame shit on being lazy. too lazy to finish this thought. fuck rowe....

Good point. But there are many canadians over 19 on this site too. Not me but still...
Another thing I just thought about... The only problems with weed like deaths and stuff comes from the illegal trade from lots of criminals, and people getting shit put in their stuff like laced things. If it was legalized lots of the shady problems would be eliminated and taxes would give governments lots of money. I think it's a society thing. The people who would speak out in protest and actually influence the governments are people who think that weed is bad bad bad bad. That it corrupts the youth and all. So it wouldn't look good for a government to suddenly encourage marijuana usage.
By allowing alcohol to be legal they can still say they discourage being drunk, hence "drink responsibly" being all over the place. Being high is being high, you aren't gonna smoke some weed without the intention of getting high. So in a way they are encouraging having a drink or two with friends, not being inebriated. If they legalized weed there is no excuse other than that they are allowing people to get high.
Damn I'm tired don't know if that made sense but I just went off on a thought... And I'm no alcoholic or daily-toker, just thinking of stuff.

governments are selfish greedy pigs who are stuck on good economics and past times.
back in the day before the world was actually educated on drugs we named them as "bad" marijuana in particular. From the get-go weed has been bad and thats why it remains bad. The gov. doesn't like change and thats why it remains legal. Same thing for drinking and the economy also probably gets a good amount from the beer industry. sad i know.
if someone were to convince the government that weed can be just as profitable as alcohol we might have a chance

I think they know it's profitable. What I think they're worried about is losing votes from the conservative-type majority of voters and *gasp* not getting into power next election.

i dont see whats wrong with a guy coming home from a hard days work and smoking a J as he normally would come home and drink a beer.

true i guess.....

probably stems from the fact that for some reason alcohol looks less harmful... even though it definetly causes more problems.

personal thing though, weed smells fucking nasty to me.

Alcohol would be illegal but in the early 1900's when they made that a law people freaked out. Weed used to be legal too, i guess people just didn't react as much as they did when they took away alcohol. Also weed is legal now under certain circumstances (the obvious medical reasons). =]

William Randolf Hearst....look him up....He was in the early 20th century what rupert murdoch (fox news = devil) is somewhat like today. One man extremely powerful media mogul pushing his own agenda through fear and lies. Watch/read Reefer Madness...it'll open your eyes.

because with alcohol if you have one or two drinks you dont get drunk. but with weed you can take one hit and be completely gone. basically its also because alcohol has been a beverage of choice before pretty much anything else was safe to drink, and in moderation has really no affects on you abilities to preform various tasks.

Because smoking is always looked down upon in our society. And I mean smoking anything. How come they banned flavored cigarettes and not flavored booze?

Why is tobacco legal all it brings is problems.

For a real argument, who are some of the richest people in the world (not celebrities), what industries are they in? Tobacco, alcohol, and pharmaceutical industries. If cannabis was legalized it would steer people away from smoking tobacco, tobacco advertisements are aimed towards kids from the ages of 12 to 22. If you introduce a product that can be smoked with very little harmful side effects and gets you high, the 12-22 age group will want that and not tobacco. It is basically the same thing with alcohol. The pharmaceutical industry would take the hardest hit from the legalization of cannabis, cannabionoids are known to be extremly useful for medicince and this has been known for almost 5000 years now, the thing is that people can self medicate taking away lots of demands for medicene.

Also think about all of the government organasations that will be put out of work, the DEA in particualar. Most of the DEA's work comes from busting cannabis deals and drug cartels who deal with cannabis primarily.

Watch the union they have a lot of good information about this.

Also Money=Power, why would the richest people in the world want to give that up.

Weed is illegal because of racism and greed...good values to base our laws around, eh? At least California might have the sense to legalize it next year finally. Hopefully this could set the stage for a national shift, thought i could see this going the same road as gay marriage right now where some states crack down nonsensically while smart states legalize. That would be a step in the right direction. I think people are starting to realize how ridiculous marijuana laws are and how counterproductive the propaganda spewed by DARE is.

It's all about money. It's what makes the world go around. I guarantee there are a good number of people in congress that want to see marijuana legalized. The only reason they vote no is for money and power.

It all comes back to making decisions based on what you feel is right not what other people feed you or for anything or anyone else but yourself.

I doubt marijuana will ever be legalized or decriminalized in a lot of states. You know how to get it so it's not a problem. Just don't get caught with it and enjoy it.

even if it was legal the morjority of ns couldnt smoke it because they would make the smoking age 18 or 21.
but if it was legal it would help everyone out in the long run. it would make the weed that you smoke safer less chance of it being laced or something. and it would help the ecomony a lot. and i think a lot of gang violence would die down.

weed is a memory loss drug it makes you do bad things thats why but so does alchol so who knows probabaly cuz hemp was taking place of timber so someone got it banned

nah thats not true. It all depends on your tolerence. If you've never drank before one or two drinks might get you drunk. Its the same thing with weed. If you've never smoked before one hit will get you baked as hell. However if your an experienced drinker one or two drinks obviously won't get you drunk. Likewise if your an experienced smoker one or two hits won't get you high
