Why is Sklar a NS employee?

Isn't this the guy who infamously defrauded the NS photo/video rating system? The dude that acted like a pre-teen girl and made multiple accounts to downvote other people's work? That was beyond sad.

Because he's a dope photographer that works hard and puts out a FUCK TON of really, really good content. Sure maybe he fucked up but he apologized for it and worked hard to get his reputation back on ns.

why do you care so much?

I don't know him personally, I'm sure he's a good guy. I'm not asking this question to afflict negativity on him, but to gain insight into why NS would hire someone who did a rather selfish action that hurt everyone else's content pretty significantly if I recall. If someone could link to the forum/news article that Mr. Bishop or whoever it was made, that would be helpful.

Probably because they believe in second chances.

Sure, what he did was entirely inexcusable and hurt the community at the time, but he has since come back and really helped grow the site with his content. People make mistakes, but it takes a mature person to A. admit they fucked up, B. come back and help make up for their mistakes. Sklar has done both of those things, I imagine many times over in person to Bishop and other NS figures. It also takes a mature organization with people like Bishop and the rest of the NS crew to accept that people can make mistakes, but these mistakes (for the most part) are something that can be moved past.

Nailed it.

I'm all about second chances for people - as long as they can own up to what they did wrong and fully engage in a rational discussion with me about what happened and why - as well as why it won't happen again.

People come on this site very young, and we do everything we can to help young talent flourish. I was an angry teenager once, who turned into an early 20s young adult full of spit and vinegar that did occasionally silly things. I get it.

Sklar was mature about what went wrong, and we managed to get to know each other in person over a few years. He kept contributing, kept being professional and in the end earned himself a position as photo editor.

Good lesson in life - if you can own up to your mistakes and give a real apology you can go a long ass way.

Yea, I fucked up, that's for sure.

That was one shitty phone call to have with Doug and Moose, I'll tell you that much.

The prospect of getting paid to shoot and a bit of 'fame'/notoriety went straight to the head of 18 year old me. After that I had some time off from the site, which really helped me gain some perspective. From there just decided to not be a bitch, own my fuck up, and keep working hard.

Doug let me earn back his trust, and here I am.

The irony really is that Sklar is probably the number one reason this doesn't happen more though. Because he fucked up, people were all put on blast about the downbombing problem, and it set an example of what would happen if your did it. Also, Sklar is very much involved in making sure that people who do the same thing are warned accordingly, and punished if they continue to do it. So, while Sklar did make a mistake a few years ago, he's more than made up for it since then and still continues to put out some of the best content on this site, while managing others to help push them further.
