Why is skiing alway behind the snowboard trend?

it almost seems too obvious to be coincidence.

but, you can always figure out what next years cover shots on ski mags will be by looking at this years snowboard mags.

my examples are, a few years back (around community project) handplants on terrain park barrels were the popular snowboard trick, then the next year it was skiings "new" trick.

last year snowboarders started goin crazy with wall rides. Now, skiing seems to be taking the trend.

Does skiing lack creativity?

I will say that the hand drag is a pretty sick skier created trick.

but snowboarding follows skateboarding which follows surfing. there is some sort of hand me down of trends there but its not like all skiers do is copy snowboarders. there are many things that are unique to skiing and there will be more in the future.

there are skiers doing creative things but unfortunately they aren't the ones who get the spotlight so much. i also thik some film crews could be partially to blame for always sticking to formula and not tring to much new things.

eah but i don't mean th angles and cinematography, i meant the spots they shred and the tricks they film. i mean it can sometime be obvious they ommit or don't even film some progessive stuff till it becomes accepted as officially cool.

my question isnt really about filming or budgets.

It's mainly about snowboarding making a trick popular again.

Skiers know what a hand plant and a wall ride are, but you dont see them in the media until boarders make it the fad again.

Why cant skiers be the first to make it trendy again?

well, Optimistic seemed to have a lot of tree tap to spins.

I dont know if it's possible on skis, i've been trying it, it's pretty hard to emulate. but someone will get it.

I think we'll see some shots of people jibbing mountain bike features in Whis. like in Gigi's part.

buttering into legit lines like Rice and Muller have been doing for years, skiers will continue to attempt. It's not there yet. But Pep is getting damn close.

what was trendy in snowboarding last year, we'll start seeing in skiing this season.

seems like skiing constantly needs snowboarding to show us whats possible and can look cool.

the question is why?

ugh i wouldnt. and i dont think snowboarders would either. im all for new and progressive stuff...but that grab is just plain ugly

it seems like the same thing outerwear wise too...boarders are getting out of the super baggy stage and having tighter pants, skiers will probly follow that soon too

i guess its because park skiing developed from snowboarding like halfpipe and jibbing all this stuff was only for snowboarders and now i guess skiers wan to show snowboarders we CAN do what they do and even make it look a lot better.

1. octograb isnt ugly

2. skiing is pretty inventive with the double flips and double grabs

3. a big part of why we cant do as "cool" and creative stuff on rails/urban stuff is that snowboarders do not have to do a "90" to go on a rail or ledge... ive noticed lately that alot of grinds in movies are 50-50 grind which are kinda impossible to do on skis, but also because it would look gay to just ride onto a ledge on skis

i agree with the whole lack of budget thing too
