Why is nobody talking about Sammy Carlson's new movie?

Seriously though that was insane. Massive 3s and 7s on natural takeoffs and overall savagery. Kid is on his way to becoming a legend

Because it wasn't all that good.

JK, I've just seen a majority of those shots before. Didn't like the edit style, skiing is always good from Sammy and friends. Overall the edit doesn't really stand out to me though.

Because

-It's filmed in HD with good camera gear and good producers (what a terrible way to capture skiing).

-He's on armada skis (shtis so cooperate these days).

-I didn't see a single back swap to switch, or picnic table jib (mountains are BOOORING).

-He's trying too hard and pushing the sport too hard (come on, leave us normies some room to catch up)

-He's a skier with talent.

another A+ legendary skier with amazing talent and no post production team to back him. STOP THE FILM BURNS its digital for christs sake,

Job well done on the skiing sammy and friends. Dear Production Team hopefully you'll step off the bunny hill in the future.

This. If Sammy wanted to, he could go back into the Park and crush any newwave shit that has ever been done... just like any true pro skier could.

10/10

That being said, sammy is a boss, he never fails to please.

It's a shame how much the new wave style of skiing gets a fan boy following and how real skiing gets overlooked. Personally I'm more of a fan of the new wave stuff because the closest mountains to me are 1000 miles away, so making something out of nothing is relevant to me. That said, I've still got the common sense to understand how much gnarlier mountain skiing really is. Just because it's powder doesn't mean there's no consequences. Sammy crushed. Can't wrap my head around some of the things he sent.

When I was a kid, I was skiing in shitty parks in Michigan... so I can relate to you. With that said, I was still trying to do super feds because I wanted to ski like Tom Wallisch. I wasn't like nose bonking a little piece of wood and swiveling all over the place. Just because you're at a small hill does not mean that the level of freeskiing should be diminished. I think that is what Mike Hornbeck is trying to get at by moving back to Michigan. Frankly, if everyone related to the new wave in the sense that you do, we might not have had guys like Mike Hornbeck and Spencer Milbocker come out of Michigan in the first place. The new wave is diminishing what it should take to be a known name in the freeskiing community; you don't need the rare combination of natural talent and balls of steel to make it anymore, which is too bad. Like back in the day, you could compare tons of "hot riders" with Sammy, because they all charged so hard and went so big - that is what it took to stand out in the game. Now a days, none of the "hot riders" can be compared to Sammy, because they don't charge hard or send it big... simple as that.

ehhh, I disagree quite a bit there. This is a definition game, my definition is probably too broad. I don't know how you classify new wave but I just see it as the creative approach to skiing that branches off from traditional skiing. So the bunch, keesh, trashparty, etc all those guys fall under that category for me. I'm not shooting down hornbeck or milbocker in any way, they're unreal skiers and I'll stop whatever I'm doing to watch a new street part from them. I don't see new wave as the bare minimum of creative skiing like you probably do. I see it as people focusing on how a trick looks and wether or not its impressive. Skiing doesn't have to strictly be gnarly and tech, those are just major big factors that play into how impressive a trick is.

Point being: Film skiing is purely aesthetic. New wave isn't diminishing park skiing, it's just cutting down on medical bills. You don't have to be an animal on planks to make a trick look good, but it certainly helps.

Wow that was unreal , Sammy is the gnarliest. Such an amazing movie , the best I’ve seen so far this year . No big build up or hype , just amazing riding .

Yeah I love when people just drop a banger-filled edit and that's that

Movie was nasty, love that aggressive style

good tunes and sammy's style is very enjoyable to watch. the 1 to switch 5 was bananas. the after fx film burns and the titles literally made me want to puke though... weird that a skier of this caliber couldn't get a decent editor.

it's a good one for the shops, not so much for home viewing

hot opinion coming through: maybe people just find watching pow skiing more boring/depressing than actually doing it

but no kids these days don’t know how to ski anymore amiright guyz?

Is that your opinion or are you just saying that some people might feel that way? Pow is my absolute favorite to watch and Sammy crushed it

depends. It's really hard to make a pow segment really interesting to me since the skiing and filming/editing techniques have changed so little over the past decade. You either have to do something really new and unique (see LSM) or absolutely kill it (like Sammy did here or the Big Picture movie). Watching someone slide down some spines in slomo from a helicopter gets old. Not to mention the feeling of skiing pow is a lot harder to convey than say hitting a rail. Watching someone blind 2 I can imagine and relate to it, watching someone slash a turn in pow just makes me really wish I could be doing that right now

idk maybe I'm biased because I sat through a warren miller movie the other day. This movie was really good but I didn't go out of my way to watch it immediatly, and I imagine I'm not the only one in that boat Blaming this all on new wave is retarded though

I waited till I got home to watch this on my good monitor. Glad I did, and I was blown away. The "B-roll"/crash reel could have been another skiers crowning achievement season edit. I think it's underappreciated how big Sammy was going in some of those pillow zones.

And if your biggest complaint is the use of a few editing styles you didn't like, then you're a tool.
