In 1998 "new school" skiing as we know it began. I would venture that the "New Canadian Air Force", (JP Auclair, JF Cusson, Shane Szocs, Vincent Dorion, ect) ,a play on the "Canadian Air Force" (racers from the 70's) helped coin the term. It isn't used anymore, but in the late 90's and early 2000's skiers refereed often to themselves and "new school skiers". When Matt Harvey created the site here in Ottawa, he called it newschoolers to represent the new skiing demographic. Its hard to imagine now, but when Harvey created the site, twin tips and skiing in a terrain parks was in its infancy and only a few thousand people were doing it.
