Why iPod and MySpace Can Burn in Hell....

yeah i think because of what i just read im gonna delete my myspace......but as for the ipod the only music on my computer are albums....i dont download single songs........just albums so i can actually see how good their music is because one song does not determine anything.......ipods are fine you can still listen to whole albums on it without having to carry all the cds around

my ipod wears black, the u2 edition, jea bitches..... i agree with you there, i wish i could have been around when Zep and Floyd were releasing double albums. I mean i have a record player and i would rather listen to it then my ipod, just because of that scracthy noise.

first off...people who buy music off itunes are retarded...but i truly think the "one hit purchase" he rants about is only present with mainstream SHIT music. People who have a sophisticated music tastes will, in most cases, buy or download the whole album. But i can see what he is saying in the case of Lupe Fiasco..."Kick Push (1)" is really the only song the mainstream knows by him, yet the album "food and liquor" has many better songs and is overall fucking amazing. So lets not hate the Ipod, lets hate ITUNES and digitally purchased music. Buy the CD if you will and THEN put it on your ipod. Problem Solved Maddox.

Oh yeah and myspace is the devil 99% of the time...but you could say that about many things i.e aim/texting/facebook/the internet ect

i agree with the ipod thing

i remember buying new cds, saving up money, and knowing exactly which one to buy

then listening to it 900000000000000 times until you knew every word

now that im starting to use dj cd players and such, im gonna start buying more whole albums

a friend of mine has hundreds of dollars worth of cds

and he usually buys a couple with each paycheck, it's worth it to him, because he loves getting to know the bands by knowing all of the songs on the albums and looking at the art

btw, i still know all the lyrics to all of the songs on linkin park's ;hybrid theory'

i buy my albums and put em on itunes nut i have never even typed myspace into the website addres box because i know how gay it is

Laughed out loud at that.

But seriously, his iPod argument is TOTAL shit. He is criticizing left and right not realizing its not just the people that have changed the landscape of music in the past couple decades, but the artists. Just compare an Akon, 50 Cent, or whatever album to The White Album(The Beatles for the noobs out there). How can you blame people for not taking in the "soundscape" when there fucking isn't one to be had!!?!? The artists these days are making no attempt to create music as an art. Like somebody already said in another post, the loyal fans will search out the musicians that still produce art and not shit singles in efforts to make some $$$.

I think iTunes has actually boosted the music industry because instead of driving your car to the music store and paying 15+bucks for an album or cd, you can jut hop on your comp, pay $10 for the whole album, and it downloads right onto your comp.

I do agree with him about the Myspace crap. It is just a fad, and it will probably go out of "style" within the next few years like all trends do.

i couldn't finish your article, you need to remove your tampon guy. You might as well curse vinly from stealing the groove of tribe people banging on trees. now you can just move a needle and skip all the skill of music. only those who are able to create music with rocks and pussy should be able to play.

give me a fucking break guy. technology is great. got move to a shack hump the hole in your vinyls faggot.

Who says everyone with an ipod has it on shuffle all the time, i like to choose my music and i put full new albums on my ipod. You listen to it a couple time and then rate. keep the rated and move on from there. i don't want an album that takes me a year to like, i paid for it or spent the time to steal it i wanna like that shit.

not to mention how are you gonna ski to a vinyl?

in spit of you i put my ipod on shuffle and it was oukast's "elevators" right into Marvin Gaye's "Build Me Up Buttercup" such a smooth transition.

good post. i agree with you 100% with you on the album argument. listening to an album and trying to figure out what the artist is trying to say is much more rewarding than just listening to one song. i liked your dark side of the moon example. its funny actually, i have ridden in the car with my friend and he'll have his mp3 player hooked up to the stereo and pink floyd will come on the shuffle( i hate the goddamn shuffle.) Of course the song is either "money", or "time" just as you said. so i said , "oh cool lets listen to dark side of the moon," and he said in reply, "what?" he didn't know the album, so i was like wtf and pulled out my ipod, yes my ipod, and played dsom. of course he still only wanted to here those two songs, but anyway i dont think having an ipod made me listen to albums less. it helps me listen to albums more. without an ipod, i'm not going to have 100 albums sitting in my car so i can fumble through them to find the album i feel like listening to. its convenient, thats all. however i do listen to single songs more than did before i got an ipod, and theres good and bad to that. most of the time, if i listen to a song i like alot by an artist that i wouldn't have considered buying the album before, i buy the album. most of the time, though, i listen to albums. its just better.

and i never really go on myspace, so i cant really comment that much other than i hate it when people talk about myspace in real life, especially myspace politics.

good post. i enjoyed it.

I agree with you, the person who wrote this article is pretty ignorant. For the record I don't have a myspace or an ipod.

i download my music for free thank u very much. I "pirate" it off limewire. I don't have the money 2 spend $1 on a song. IDK why any1 would pay for them unless u wanna blow the artists that created the music. just my take on it :)

good article. i wish i could say that i BUY albums but instead i download albums. whenever i hear a good song by an artist i get the whole cd.

as soon as i read this article i thought of melon collie and the infinite sadness album by the smashing pumpkins. everyone i can think of has the singles from that album (1979, bullet with butterfly wings, tonight tonight) but nobody has the whole album and that sucks, because it's amazing. that's one cd i did actually purchase...

The only problem with this post was it's first sentence. Your argument is based on you being all knowledgeable from age, and we are too young to understand. That argument is really similar to a senior making fun of a freshman, taking generalizations into play.

^ yeah myspace and facebook seem pointless to me. i really don't like face book. but i don't like aim or any message thing. on my computer i listen to music, check this site, download music, and do homework. oh and watch porn when my room mate is gone, then i have to turbo jerk in fear he'll come back in the middle of my release. i can't wait for my own room again.

my ipod was the best thing that's happened to me. i love poppin a shuffle of zero 7 songs in the winter and strollin through campus. it's so relaxing to observe society as you mosey around in a nice audio cacoon.

^ for sure i'm pretty sure we were all around when the first ipod came out just like this guy. but even then he was probably doing things the old fashioned way, notice he was a vinyl nerd. i mean yeah its good sound but not practicle for consumption. you know they didn't use condoms in the older days, instead they used pigs bladders. if this guy isn't wrapping with a pig bladder i'm callin hypocrit.

i don't have a problem putting shit on shuffle. the only problem that i have is that elevators might be your only song from the ATLiens album. which would be sad.

thank you come again.

This guy is a complete idiot, the shit hes talking about only has an impact on him if he wants it to. The fact that he takes the time to write about it just shows that all the guy has to do with himself is bitch, and hes obviously a miserable fuck.

the end.

this kid is a fucking prick, i kind of agree about myspace but not about the ipod, its just plain capitolism people buy what they want and dont buy what they dont want plain and simple, the artist should make music that appeals to their interests

that is just some pissed of guy that wasnt the first to purchase an ipod, and his computer has windows 95 so he cant load myspace pages quick enough. fucking faggot.

I didn't really read the whole thing, but I love making mixes. They're the shit...I also like to listen to albums in their entirety. It's all about CHOICES. The iPod gives us more, and this is good. A new way to experience music. So to the author of the article, FUCK YOU.

yeah. listening to albums i the way to go. when you put an album on to your computer don't take a song off becaouse its not as good as the one before it.

i dont think the ipod killed the music industry. it started when artists (especially rappers) made half assed albums that only had one or two hits. then napster came along and people just started to download the one or two tracks from the song and not bothering to buy the whole shitty album for 20 bucks. no one wants to spend 20 bucks on two songs.

Some bands are worth buying the album, but do I listen to all the songs on an album? No. For me, good playlists incorporate lots of different artists, blended together to sound and flow well.

I would buy cds. However, Kalispell has lost all of its indie music stores, and I would rather pay the money to Apple then Bestbuy or Borders, which have crappy selections of music anyway.

wow that was absolutely retarded. If i wanted to hear a bunch of bitching about shit i would go to liek a protest or some thing, Why are americans so fucking stupid, we have it so well that we get bored and start bitching about shit like this.

idk about the whole album shit cause frankly i love albumbase to death but i think thats a whole other problem in itself and probably worse..........

I generally buy off itunes because it's so easy. I search around and all the sudden I've bought 3 albums i didn't know about before. and yeah i buy whole albums

And for the myspace(not my thing) rant (i didn't bother reading the whole thing) but he's whining "oh noes something caught on when there were similar ideas before it!!" guess what, it happens all the time. People are whining because Guitar Hero caught on when there was an arcade game with a guitar before it, but guitar hero caught on because it was easy to pick up and play, so obviously they did it better

i don't know if half of that said what I meant it to but i tried

get the sand out of your vagina and quit caring about how people live their lives.  it's none of your buisness so stop crying and get over it.  you're a little bitch who has too much time on your hands because you lack a life, therefore your pissed off at the world and as a result bitch the rest of the world out who is out having a good time
