Why I ski and the purpose of life.

Lets start off with this I grew up skiing every year almost everyday as the years progressed wasn't able to ski as much due to working alot. I decided one day I was going to do what I had always wanted to do and join the Army. So i did went to OSUT graduated got sent to Fort Hood, Texas.

I deployed shortly after arriving to Texas. One day during deployment we had just came back from mission and I was laying in bed on my laptop start scrolling thru my newsfeed and the first thing I see is Warnick had passed. I grew up at Wisp watching Warnick and Wallisch ski and I had hung out with them skiing.

After seeing this it reminded me of skiing and how horribly bad I missed it and how it was impossible in Texas. Then I realized that our leave days would be right in the middle of peak season, instantly stoked I bought and all new set-up spent $300 on a pass to use for 22 days and couldn't wait to ski.

The minute I got off the plane back home (not Texas home but home home) I saw snow and couldn't wait to be back on it. I spent every day on leave skiing and after returning back to Texas it made me realize that all I need in life to be happy is skiing. I have some issues from deployment that I couldn't shake very easily but as soon as I was back on snow they didn't phase me nothing did.

Honestly skiing is what I was put here for and I can't wait to return to it. It is therapeutic to me I forget about what I saw in Afghanistan or what happened. Skiing is the only thing I need.

Let the hate begin grammar nazis and assholes I really don't give a fuck. I just wanted to share.

That's awesome dude. I can definitely relate to the feeling of getting back on snow for the first time in a while. It's really cool that you found comfort in skiing too. I don't know you but that makes me really happy for ya haha

And thank you for everything you've done for our country and for everything you'll do in the future(:

Hell yea son thanks for sharing. It definitely is such a great feeling when you finally understand what it is you love. It opens up a clearer understanding of everything. Glad you found your passion, have fun out there!

Keep shredding man. Good friend of mine was a killer skier. Then one day he joined the marines and left it all behind. I wonder if he will ever come back. That was 3/4 years ago. I really hope he does. He was one of the best.

great story, and glad you survived and found happiness again. i think we all go on our paths through life and when the struggle gets the realest, we remember skiing, and how it blows the doors off of ptsd, or any other problems the world bestows upon us. i really like the voice over of the new MSP trailer "days of my youth", its spot on.

Yep. Skiing just has this funny way of keeping you sane.

That it does. 5 more months til I'm back on snow for about 20 days then off to another deployment. Gotta love the deployment rotation when it puts you home when you can ski.
