Why I love/hate selling equipment online.

I love it because you get money for what you don't need anymore. I hate it because the people are usually idiots... in this case, it's nearly a love, because this person is hilarious. Here's my conversation so far with a potential buyer for my 50D...

Buyer is in bold, I'm in normal. This is all via text.

HI do u still have d Canon 50DD?

Yes, I do

I've lowered the price to 720.

Oh Yeah?!?!

That isn't very far at all. I go to school in Toronto, at York University. We can meet up anywhere on the subway if you'd like. I don't go back to school until January though.

Oh okay dats a gud idea

So are you interested in buying it? We can meet up in the first week of January

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have a buyer for my camera. I'm not picky about who it is either. But this woman (who I REALLY didn't think was a woman for the first while) is about as dumb as a pile of bricks. For those that don't know, Don Mills is one of the nicest areas of Toronto, so she probably isn't poor like her horrendous english makes her seem. Just strange she talks that way and wants to buy a camera if you ask me.

So, M&A, should I sell my camera to the mysterious stupid texter? Not really a question, if she puts up the money I'm gonna do it regardless.

Selling anything online sucks, especially on NS. Kids on here are so indecisive.

haha this.

but OP, I'll bet anything that (if you say the area is as nice as it is) the woman is drop dead gorgeous and dumber than a bag of bricks. trophy wife.

Craigslist is worse. Right after posting something, someone will ask, is it still available? Half the time I think it's spammers trying to collect your email address though.

I always respond to craigslist ads "Hey, is item still available? if so email me back at dan@_.com or call me at ____ - Dan"

well if she's really rich AND stupid, then just tell her someone else offered you $1000 and you're going to sell it to him in the next week unless you can do $1500.

I can picture it now... "Hay man, u told meh I culd get it frum u for only liek 720 now it 1000?!?! wtffff!?!"

well the fact that she's married and living in a nice part of toronto, shes probably around 40 years old and just really shitty at texting. I know a lot of parents who are. they get some blackberry storm they dont care to take the time to learn to use and just pluck away at the keys

just make sure to not text back when she wants her money back because she can't figure out how to use all those fancy knobs and dials.

totally pertinent to this thread- I just got a text from a guy saying "Hey yu still got the 5D for sale???"

I simply responded: "It's still for sale"

If I meet with him/her and can sell it to them without them noticing the difference, I feel no guilt at all for ripping them off at all, this is how you can tell when someone buys something with no research at all.
