Why I am not voting in this so called election..

this is my personal opinion of what is happening in our country.

remember it is the true patriot that stands up and questions.

so as far as the election is concerned..i am not voting for either one

of these tools. the reasons are so numerous but i'll give you some main

ones. we are projecting our power around the world in a disturbing

fashion. just recently we have begun to conduct raids in Pakistan. this

was supposedly our ally in the war on "terror". next we are likely to

engage Iran in some form in the next several years. neither mccain nor

obama have said anything contrary to this. yes mccain is more openly

belligerent, but i think obama will be just as ready to use military

force abroad. we have been in afghanistan for seven years! in iraq for

over five! if you take the two wars separately this is twelve years of

war. This is longer than vietnam, world war ii, world war i, civil

war..in other words longer than any wars we have been in. and mccain

says we will stay as long as we have to.. obama's change is a

"possible" timetable which he might have abandoned as an idea, and a

shift of troops to Afghanistan and maybe even Pakistan.

for that reason alone, neither of these candidates will get my vote

reason number two: both of these candidates have said nothing about the

various laws created during the Bush administration giving more power

to the executive branch. also all the laws such as the Patriot Act,

which go against a basic tenet of American society: "those who

sacrifice safety for liberty will find themselves without both safety

and liberty".. to all of you who want to tell me that this is only a

risk if you are a "bad" guy, i say STFU you stupid piece of shit.

During world war II, FDR imprisoned tens of thousands of Japanese

Americans. he didn't even need a Patriot Act to do it. the fact that

its called "The Patriot Act" is a fucking travesty too, because it

implies that if you are against it you aren't a patriot. fuck you King

George. we've got a government that condones torture, indefinite

detention, secret prisons..in other words tyranny which some meatheads

think is all ok because it only applies to "terrorists".Bullshit.

Department of Homeland Security? wtf?? Department of Intellectual Property Rights??

Then we have the wall street bailout. Almost a trillion dollars worth

of handouts which are supposed make some kind of profit. Even in China

they were astounded by this move. First the house of reps votes this

monster down, and then they get scared because the market dropped 777

points.. Wow, everyone who switched their vote because of that was

either really sly or a total bafoon. the dow jones industial average is

not directly correlated to the economy. its a wonder, that since then

we have had a day with a 800 point increase in the Dow. And MCPalin has

the fucking audacity to talk about the redistribution of wealth.. We

need to "unfreeze credit markets".. You do realize that the markets

froze up when Hankster announced the proposed bailout. Banks and

financial companies stopped lending because they wanted to see what

would happen with the bail out. Yippe! Privatize profits for

corporations but socialize their loses by making the citizens pay for

it! Yay! Another part of the travesty is how the main news channels

portrayed this shit. I watched BOTH house debates on CSpan. The first

time, there was a strong voice of opposition to this bill for many

reasons.

The media claimed tha the bill did not pass because some Republicans

switched their vote.. What about the fact that both parties came out in

strong opposition saying that this was not the right thing to do. Then

George Bush comes out and says "The legislative process is not

important, the bill will pass" WTF does that mean? And then what do you

know it? The Senate takes up the bill, makes it 400 pages, adds 160

billions dollars of crap and voila the House passes it.

The GWOT or Global War on Terrorism is a sham. Terrorism is indeed

real, but governments have been the biggest sponsors and creators of

terrorism in the history of our world. More people have died and more

property has been destroyed because of government initiated war. Much

more than some crazies have ever done. Yes, 9/11 was a dramatic and

shocking event. We were right to go after Al Quiada for it. So maybe it

should be the Global War on Al Quaida. What other words will our

country declare war upon? The War on Free Speech and Assembly? The War

on Freedom? The War on the US Constitution oh wait I forgot, they

already started those wars but decided not to tell us.

our country is full of murder and crime. our own citizens are more

likely to be killed from a "regular" crime than a terrorist act. more

people die from preventable diseases, yet we are consumed with fear

about shadowy and mysterious terrorists.

I could go on and on.. The election itself is crap because we get two candidates that participate in fixed debates.. Its a well known FACT that the debate commission was started by Dems and Repubs. and is a private corporation headed by two former chairmen of both parties. The point of all this is to make sure that neither of the candidates is put on the spot, or says something foolish. The debate rules are often held secret..

really i could go on and on.. i still believe that this is a great country. with enormous potential. its up to us young people to stand up and demand real change,

feel free to participate in this sham election. If you do, please

vote third party. Remember that Ross Perot won something like 19 percent of the popular vote in the 90's. Vote for yourself even. Better yet, don't vote.

Contrary to what you've been told, not voting is not immoral. If

choices are evil or more evil, it is far better to abstain. I am not

voting...end of story.

super important correction: "those who

sacrifice safety for liberty will find themselves without both safety

and liberty" should actually read "those who

sacrifice liberty for safety will find themselves without both safety

and liberty"

thanks for telling us you're not voting.

i'm not going to wear my favourite rugby shirt today because i'm going to wear my favourite hoody today, and they would look stupid together. i think i will wear my red t-shirt instead.

Giving up your vote is essentially the same as giving up your right to free speech. It's your chance to say which direction you want the nation to go in, and sometimes you have to choose the lesser of two evils. There will never be a perfect candidate, which is why I usually choose based on a mix of character and basic policy.

Well, i'd suggest you vote, and eat some grilled cheese. I just ate delicious grilled cheese while simultaneously voting and it made the experience much more enjoyable.
Btw, if you don't vote nobody really gives a shit about what you have to say because you don't have a right to complain if you don't bother to attempt to change anything. Just my 0.02.

That is a very well-thought out manifesto, but I can refute your choice in a few sentences:

Either way, a Republican or a Democrat is going to be voted into office by the masses. It's true, you must vote between evil and evilER. Yet, in this case, the idea of abstinence from voting is the equivalent of being against war, then sitting around and doing nothing to help. What we have to decide in this election is whether or not our choice is more detrimental than the other. The elections do not care if you do not vote. It is on your shoulders to sway the election in a way that has more positive effects than the other.

By not voting, you are just joining the vast majority of American citizens that apparently just dont care.

I understand your anger and dissatisfaction. But throwing your hands up and saying "I give up" is lame. Vote for something. A high percentage of write ins or third party votes would do well to show our government how dissatisfied people are with the choices they give us.

i suggest that you actaully vote for another canidate like a independent or green party canidate

that way when you talk about the president and make fun of them so one cant pull the "you didnt vote so dont complain" card

not voting? hoorayyy! what an original and educated idea!
I hope you have fun being angry about the election while you bury your own head in the sand.

I admit that I did not read your entire post. But this is only because I am a bit strapped for time at the moment. Anyhow, You seem to have very strong feelings about the current political situation in the states. But, I feel like by simply resigning from the matter you are going to accomplish even less than if you were to go vote. You obviously don't fit in with the "I'm too lazy and I don't care and I have no opinion" crowd, so show that you care by doing something.

agreed.

there are so many things wrong in this country that neither candidate will change. we need a third party and our generation is finally fed up with both dam parties

After reading what you said I am actually happy you aren't voting. And more importantly it doesn't matter because, lucky for our country, an election is not decided by just one vote. Not even two, or three, or even a thousand. All that little rant told people is that you are good at putting blame on people who aren't really at fault.
I agree that neither of the candidates are ideal, or even good, but one is better than the other. And one is a step farther in the right direction than the other. So what if change doesn't happen overnight? Why not take a step in the right direction?

omg your so right you forgot that in reality your vote doesnt really matter, voicing your choice of president and choosing a side will only make you think your helping. we have a great thing called the electoral college that inevitably chooses the next president, how democratic. Your parading and campaigning only promotes the celebirty status of these two retards

Haha. Actually I was not referencing our electoral college system at all. It was pointing more to the idea that, thankfully, because of the sheer number of voters the stupidity of people like the OP is hopefully rendered negligible. I will be voting in this election and I would like to think that my vote will matter but the fact is, it probably won't in the grand scheme of things. But despite knowing this I also know that if everyone thought the way I do, and maybe, unlike me, decided not to vote then our system wouldn't work.
Then again, most of our decisions about politics are extremely misguided anyway. None of us is anywhere near informed enough about the issues to make a decision of the importance that we will all make on November 4th. We all just choose a party that generally aligns with our ideals and vote for that party's candidate. Because of the scope of government today there are just too many things to think about. No candidate aligns perfectly with all of any person's ideals. One candidate may be viewed as good at something but not good at something else. But in reality it is nearly impossible to attribute any success or failure to a decision that said candidate made at some point.
Now that I have gone sufficiently off topic while at the same time responding to your post is there anything else?

after reading that i have deduced several things:

1. youve never voted before.

2. youve never taken a real politics class

3. youve never taken an economics class either

4. though uneducated you are pretty smart

5. you need to direct your sexual frustration on something other than current events.

Dude, if you don't like the two party system VOTE FOR ANOTHER PARTY. I don't know why people think a third party is just going to magically appear and solve everything. It's going to be gradual, and the first step is getting a third party to 5% so they get federal matching funds on the next election.

Seriously, its people like you that piss me off. All you do is bitch about the two party system and then you throw your vote away instead of voting to get rid of that system you hate.

I would just like to point something out. A

patriot is not someone who just asks questions, but does nothing about

it. A true patriot acts, and not voting isn't putting your questions

into action. Not voting for anything is just standing by doing

nothing, exactly the opposite of a patriot. You speak as though you are a patriot, and you aren't. To even call yourself a patriot for just questioning the system is absurd. You have to earn the title of true patriot through precise and certain actions in your life, and very little people truly achieve this title. You sir, are no Thomas Jefferson.

yea well people like the thread creator think the only thing they get to do going to the polls is choose a president. Awww the power of ignorance.

not voting because of your reasons is so stupid. say you hate both mccain and obama. you must RATHER have one in office than the other. vote for him. by not voting you have absolutely no right to say shit about anything thats going on since you havent tried at all. sure your 1 vote doesnt mean shit but when everybody does what you're doing it starts to matter

Right on, I care way more about Colorado casinos being allowed craps and roulette than which president is gonna fuck it all up again.

Consider this though. In your last statement you said that the choices were evil or more evil...I agree with this. We need a president who will make real changes, but due to the way our government works, that simply is not going to happen. We have fucked ourselves into a corner. But, considering that, (espically if you are in a swing state, If not it may be wise to vote third party) why not choose the lesser of the 2 realisticly plausable evils.

after watching the daily show last night along with the colbert report and reading your well thought out responses this morning i have realized that i am wrong and that I should vote..i am still not voting for obama or mccain though. i am writing in drew, with rowen for vp.

So you don't like the two presidential candidates. Are you at least going to vote on congressional and senate seats?

Not voting counts more than voting. Not voting shows you dont care. Theres a reason low income areas typically dont recieve the revitalization and government help they should get and thats because low income areas typically dont turn out voters. If a large group votes, politicians listen and start catering to them. The South Bronx was forgotten for many years and no one there voted, and it took a bunch of citizens to decide to do shit to rehab that neighborhood.

AT LEAST vote for local people and congressmen. You cant complain for shit if you dont vote.

If you have the right to vote, you should. If not for any other reason that there are people in this world who don't have the right to vote, or their vote truly means nothing. Take Burma for example.
