Why hate Salomon??

Just curious as to why people here hate Salomon. Have you had any personal experience that causes you to dislike their products or do you just hate them because they're a large ski-company and not a "core" manufacturer. I personally have ridden two models. I have ridden X-screams and was not impressed as the edges seemed very delicate. However, I've ridden a pair of Pocket Rockets for the last two seasons and they're awesome. Light, reasonable durable and good for almost anything. If you hate a company for a good reason that's reasonable otherwise it seems dumb imho.
 
i had 1080's and i really didnt like them, and i dont really like the company that much, line, armada, 4frnt and all those are much cooler.
 
cooler? too many "newschoolers" buy products for their image or mission statement. I prefer sticking with performance. These build ski companies, atomic, head exc all pump millions into R&D all these new "core" companies do is cut a peice of plywood in their garage and slap a sick graphic on it.
 
Rossignol is also a big company still I like their ideas and concepts a lot better than Salomon.

Salomon are just too pretentious and full of shit. I hated those shock-breaker-thingies they used to put on skis to make them look more tech and sell them to idiots at a higher price. This is the image I always get from Salomon: trying to get as much money as possible off beginners with their bullshit Cross-Max skis and what not.

If you just look what Rossignol is doing with the Scratch and Bandit lines that's fucking awesome and they're so in touch with what's going on in France.

Salomon's done some cool things too but I will never buy their gear again. Just don't like their attitude.
 
That's always been the impression i've got as well, especially in England where most people know fuck all about skiing and so some places think they can just push any Salomon stock onto people who don't know any better (alot of the time they get more commission for selling Salomon stuff than other, better products).

Also i've had terrible experiences with their bindings, they always get loose, pop off no matter how high my din is and disintegrate if you take them anywhere near the park
 
However...

You get what you pay for, and if can actually afford salomon set-ups and/or their top-of-the-range bindings, then salomon's true brilliance comes to light

It's like prestige cars, take BMW's for example, sure their bottom range cars really aren't that much better than their competitors, but their top models absolutely own - durable, perform well and last for years

Keeping with the metaphor, it's usually these prestige companies that take risks and put forward new ideas, just like salomon has and will do in the future, like their recent foam core innovation

Any major advances in the sport of skiing will no doubt come from one of the bigger, less 'core' companies than one of the smaller independent ones simply coz they pump more money into the development of their equipment

So fuck all of you who diss salomon coz if you want the sport to move forward, you're gonna have to deal
 
So you don't hate Salomon. You hate teh shops wich sell Salomon to people who don't know sqwat about skiing. Try to think a little bit before posting!

i like companies that specifically are for building freestyle skiing, salomon is not like that but that might have been what he was trying to say when he said that armada, 4frnt and line are cooler
 
salomon fucked me over on a pair of teneightys, i broke them flat out right infront of the toe piece of the binding, sent them in and they told me that i will get nothing because of rounded edges that they told me were "abused" on rails, and that the ski was not ment to be skied like that. fuck salomon and all they hypocrits behind their teneighty line.
 
these "garage" companies are actually using pretty high end materials for their skis. tho i agree on the graphic idea i wish they would use black for their bases instead of their "sick graphics" because black is much easier to repair, and its faster.

as for solomon tho they suck. their skis are foam cores which break down much quicker than wood cores, and it makes the ski very flimsy. and their bindings suck they've barely changed their wing system in years and i have to tighten mine all the time.
 
i thnik they are a good company i just dont like how thier park skis ride or their bindings
 
You guys must not know alot about skiing because it is the driver behind the wheel that dictates weather or not the ski performes well or not. Not the skis. The skis will aid in the process of skiing. If you think our skis are not "burly" enough just look at any number of our pro's Jamie Pierre and others like Chad Sayers, Chris Rubens, Mark Abma both Olenick brothers, Simon Dumont, Sammy Carlson, CR Johnson, Mike Douglas, Brian Bennett and Riley Leboe just to name a few.
 
i dont hate salomon i just never was a big fan of their skis, but i do have their new bindings on my skis.
 
thats not completely true. he skis r an important part of the combo. a good rider cud have a shitty pair of skis which wud cause him to perform poorly
 
i dont see why people hate salomon either. its just ski company making their skis different than everyone else. so what if its foam core.

but the bindings are pretty bad
 
^^^^ Word up bro. Our ski are light and offer somthing other companies can't in fact offer sometimes. Our company devotes variety of good products to appeal to many skiers and not just a few.

Wait until you see next years stuff. The SPK is going to go off as will Xwing.
 
i can't believe that ski companies say their skis aren't meant to be used on rails. in a lot of ads they have team riders hitting rails. that's such bullshit.

i don't like salomon either cause of past experiences. their bindins don't hold up at all. i haven't skied any salomon skis in a while, so i'd at least give them a chance
 
funny thing is that when most of the kids on this site were still wearing diapers - mike douglas and some of the new canadian air force boys started riding in the park with all the boarders. douglas was involved with a radical new ski with twin tips. he went to like 10+ ski companies to sell the idea. guess who picked it up? that's right SALOMON. the 1080 wich was the standard for a long long time and perhaps still is was a solly ski. everyone here should be grateful for solly and what they have done for the progression of our sport. don't hate for no reason. if you prefer another ski over solly skis - that's cool. but if you make a blanket statement like they suck all together, you don't know much about skis. also, anyone who thinks solly bindings suck doesn't know crap about bindings and there components. solly bindings are the real deal. the only other bindings that come close is rossi/line which are also very decent. do some research on solly bindings and you'll find they are way ahead of the game
 
Theres nothin againts big corporations or anything, but salomon has always seemed like more of race and groomer ski company, not really park and powder skies. Aside from maybe the pocket rockets
 
two words:

FOAM CORES...

foam cores are fucking bullshit. anyone who thinks you can get performance out of a foam core should be kicked in the teeth.
 
definatly. pocket rockets are like noodles. i know a kid who rides them. theyre good for him cuz he weighs 120lbs. but they still flop up and down. theyre race bindings are so sick tho. the other ones do kinda suck
 
they are cooler because they are so much more creative, over the past like four years salomon has hardly changed their skis, they have a new graphic each year and now new names and thats pretty much it. then line makes skis like the invaders, prophets, elizabeths, and the bacons in the past couple years, same with armada, 4frnt and all those companies they keep changing.
 
ive had 1080s and now i have 4frnts. sure i think 4frnt is a "cooler" company but heres why i like my 4frnts better.

1) i had my 1080s when i started going off jumps and stuff. i hardly hit anything bigger then a 20' with them. i think i hit a 35' a few times. i never did boxes/rails on them. they delaminated TWICE, pretty much from me just riding on them.

2) my 1080s were a 161, my STLs are a 177. my STLs are super light compared to my 1080s.

3) i feel much more stable on my STLs but thats probably just cause my 1080s were a bit small and my STLs are the right size.
 
Salomon invented the twin tip. Period. At least for the mainstream market (ignoring people who made their own customs in early days). How about how one of the Peters brothers is on Salomon and one is on 9thward, do you think the one on Salomon is lame or something? Ignorant fools, spend more time learning to ride than trying to look cool in the newest Oakley/Anon crap.
 
ive never used them...i have the rossi scratch binndingd..never had any problemes......but i guy i knew had the solomon binidings and they blew ass
 
ninthward skis were made to be used with salomon bindings. they work with other bindings, but they work best with salomon. and both of the peters bros use them. and some of the k2 guys ride the bindings. and so does pollard. and wen wilson rode line he used salomon bindings
 
everyone says foam cores are for light skiers....i am 210 and ride 171 foils and they kick ass and are plenty stiff to carve through crud and still have enough pop to get off jumps and shit too
 
they snap to easy, gayest graphics, and they delam really easy. snapped 1 and delamed 3.
 
I will ski salomons, but I will probably not buy any anytime soon. I am worried about foam cores' durability (It may not really be an issue, but I think it is, and that is enough to keep me away for a while). I know people who love their salomons, but they don't really work for me, and that is what it comes down to in the end: how a ski works for you.
 
Heres why I don't like Salomon and will never buy them.

I give salomon credit for developing the 1080 and progressing the sport in the beginning, but I give them no credit now. Their products are ho-hum, and even if theyre coming out with better stuff in the next couple years, I still wouldn't buy. There are plenty of companies that are FAR more dedicated and rooted into our sport like 4frnt, Liberty, Line, Armada, Ninethward, etc. I would much rather pour my money into products made by companies that I want to see grow, because I feel these companies are the ones that are truely going to innovate and create new products.

Salomon is a large sport company, mulitfaceted with many disciplines. I would rather put my money into a more niche, dedicated company in freeskiing that has potential, instead of a large company like Salomon that after 10 years has failed to do anything remarkably innovative. I'm obviously not giving my money to a company like that.
 
i used to like them, until i tried out my friends spaceframe 1080's. the fuckers were so damn heavy and ugly and just didnt feel good, not to mention thate everyone has them bitches. i dont like them period
 
I completely disagree... Id rather buy a ski from a company that can afford the warranty like salomon, not from company who begin in the sport and cant give you a new pair when u brake them in 2 piece after 4days. Since I had this problem , im not going to buy core company anymore. Anyway, all of u should buy the cheapest ski u can get cause a ski is a ski in my mind.

I kinda like salomon ski but I have to agree with the other who said their binding sucks
 
not only do they have many disciplines, but they are in alot more sports, ranging from inline to hiking.

however, i feel their skis are of the highest quality twin tip or not, very durable and ahead of the times

QUALITY COMES FIRST
