why don't many girls go in the park?

yah i used to be afraid of making fun of myself if i wanted to try something new, like skierbabe. But then, skiing is all about having fun and trying new things which will also include making fun of myself, but i just laugh. and to all those people who make sarcastic remarks from the chairlift, you probably haven't even tried park yet so shut up.

 
We are built differently. We have a much different center of balance making it harder for us to land. As someone else said we have a much greater chance of tearing our ACL's. And we also jsut don't have the muscle mass the guys do to be able to do certain shit, Let alone the fact that we don't have testosterone pumping through our bodies which makes guys so much more competitive and shit then girls

fuck you thats not even remotely true... i know guys who get more mad when they fuck up there face then I do. I know personally i don't like to sit in the park all day. Yea i'll try a rail or something but i prefer skiing the back country pow and huckin off cliffs and shit, its jus tmore my thing. Park can be fun but i don't like sitting there all day

I've seen a few girls in my park. None of them are very good, but I don't think it's cuz they're girls.

They'd probably suck if they were guys too.

 
ah, it's just the same here... I'm the only girl who's skiing, actually, I've only skied with another girl that really tries to do her best, and hits the jumps etc one time, and that was so dope..!

but hey, it's fun to ride with the boys too..!

I think the reason for that the girls don't do as much tricks n shit as the boys is because people don't expect so much of the girls as the do of the boys...

at least that's what I think...

it should've neeb this huge camp, only for girls or something one time, man that would've been dope!!

oh and yeah, it's like thousands of girl boarders, but only one girl skier.. sucks..

 
my friend katie and i are the only girls who hit the park, and we're the only girls with twin tips...so the guys give us a lot of shit about hitting jumps and stuff. but yeah we're very self conscious because everyone will like, remember every time you eat shit since we're the only girls

it's definitly intimidating when all the guys are watching you, and you feel like you need to prove yourself to them in order to even not be laughed at. i think that's the worst thing. i love going in the pipe because once you drop in it's like your in your own little world.

I don't know if you've ever read any of Turpin's interviews, but he makes it clear that he wants to see more girls progressing in the park, which is why you'll notice that in the blackcomb park he is always offering coaching suggestions to the girls that he sees skiing. more guys should take that initiative, and then maybe they'll see more girls willing to ski park.

there is NOTHING hotter than a girl that rips. Proud to say my gf is pickin it up. I did my part in changing a ski bunny cheerleader who listened to britney, to a girl who dances, wears park clothes not bunny clothes, and listens to green day, taking back sunday, ll cool j and all kinds of stuff. she's awesome. Everyone should try and help someone out. I love helpin out younger kids in my hometown, with technique and whatever. Being a freeskier is awesome, you can go anywhere and if you find someone else who rides then they're always so fun to talk to and pumped to ride with you. i dont know too many other sports like that.

Girls dont ski because they care about their reputation. All my friends i ride with board but does it make me change my sport? no. Girls care about the whole totally fitting in thing, so they board.

Not going in the park is also a result of the social coolness thing. Bailing they think would make them look stupid so they arent going to do it.

Even girls who board dont ride in the parks often cuz they are afraid of being made fun of.

GIRLS: you have it wrong. guys like it when you try shit, even if you bail. it means that you respect yourself and are independent enough to try shit that other people arent doing. plus if you start something and get decent at it, like even if you can land safetys or something, the other girls will see you and want to follow.

I like skiing park, because where I ski, there's not a lot of challenge left on the mountian. In the park, however, there are a lot more things I have to learn and can progress more as a skier there. Maybe a lot of girls don't go in the park, because they find the mountian itself fun and challenging. do whatever you like think is fun, because skiing is supposed to be fun.

also, I think a lot of girls are just scared. Personally, I used to be scared of rails and getting hurt, and falling infront of people. Now, I've just gotten used to it and go into my own little world when I ski. Even if there's kids hiking the same rail I'm trying, I'll hit it infront of them, which a while ago I would have probably never done. It's just something you have to get used too.

I've met some cool skiers in the park. One helped me hit my first kink rail, and without him I probably would have never gotten it down. So, it helps a lot when other skiers help or even just talk to you. I'd love to see more girl jibbers here (I've seen one or two on the mtn, not nessicarily in the park). There are some good snowboard girls here though. Even though they SB I respect them a lot. they make me want to hit some of the bigger features because I see them killin it. That helps me to see I could hit stuff too.

too bad crystal doesn't have a park... but im pretty sure a lot of girls would hit it if there was one... i know a bunch of girls that hike the backcountry with the guys and build kickers and shit.

girls get intimidated easily though... i know that i wouldn't want complete strangers to see me fall on my ass... especially a hot guy

yeah in the beginning i was kinda apprehensive to go in the park cuz everyone was really good and i totally sucked. but i guess you just gotta suck it up and get in there, and once you do its really cool cuz then you realize that the guys are totally willing to help you out...

..but i think a lot of times girls are more cautious and think ahead about the consequences..the main thing thats hard to get over is the initial fear and yeah..i think

grete is better than most guys, same with steezy ash. parker is still relatively new and killing it for sure. denise is a rail master with tons of talent, well known in canada but not in the states. soo many girls are stepping it up

Girls who ski don't care about their reputation asshole. For real thats serious stereotyping if we cared about our rep we woulda switched to snowboarding or some shit like that. Some of us just like to ski for the feeling and don't get all caught up in whether its freestyle or not. Guys just have to make it all competitive and stuff. I push myself to have harder lines in teh backcountry. The other day i was workin on rails. Girls just don't always progress so fast because we don't sit in the park all day. i know some sick freestyle skiers who can't even ski in teh woods. Thats just lame

i know that girls are better than ME. but a lot of guys i know are way better than sarah and kristi at least, ive seen their parts in movies and they r good, but theres kids on my mountain that could kill em. they just do stuff like 360s over 40 footers and ride the rails. its waaayy better than me, but those tricks arent all that special.
