why don't many girls go in the park?

Just wondered why people think it is that so few girls ride freestyle. There's not many freeriders either (in comparison to guys) - but when u go into a park in Europe, there's so few girls is silly. Is it the same in N. America? why?!

 
around where i live, it seems like all the girls that wanna hit the 'park' are on snowboards. theres maybe 1 girl skier here that rides park.

are there loads of girl snowboarders though? there's def more girl boarders than girl skiers in europe, but still not even close to the number of guys..

 
well theres a lot of 11 year old girl skiers.... other than that, most board. a few still ski, the ones that come like twice a year, but the rest board. i dont get it..

yeah now that im thinking about it, theres barely any girl skiers anywhere where i ski over the age of 12. even if they do come twice a year.

hahahaha, nice mommy. all the chicks i know that ski are afraid of people seeing them fall, so they wont try anything. the lift goes right over our park, so everyone yells stuff at people in the park. they take it too seriously

we got like 3 or 4 of them, and they cant pull a flying shit. like 180 off the blue jumps is a stretch. aw no wait, theres this one who 540s on a red but thats beside the point

it's because most girls are afraid to do anything. i mean, some of them want to do tricks but are afraid that if they make an ass out of themselves, non of the 'hotties' in the park will try and pick them up. plus snowboarding is much more popular thans skiing so of course there are going to be more girls on boards. i remember i was so scared to slide rails because there were guys all over the park and i didn't want to get made fun of for landing on my ass. then i realized skiing is about having fun and progression and the other people in the park who make fun of someone for falling are mostly the ones who can talk all the shit but can't do anything themselves. it's kind of fear, boys are intimidating and girls don't want to come off like they think they're better than a guy because then guys get all pissed off. anyways there's quite a few girls in the park where i dwell

i'm pretty much the only girl at my mountain who regularly skis park. and it'd probably be a hell of a lot less intimidating to do if i had some other girlfriends who skied.

the truly most amazing things happen on ski when you are skiing with a posse of friends that you feel totally comfortable with. That's when I make progress. Riding with girls rocks. They make all the difference. We root each other on--push each other--coach each other--just be supportive and have fun together. When I'm riding with the guys I'm not likely to try anything new--I'm just not as comfy. but get a couple girls together and it changes the whole dynamics, but until theres a few its really hard. props girl

The terrain park is the one of the last domains for male bravado and braggadocio. Consequently, it is an intimidating environment for someone who's new to the testosterone-laden newschool scene. To top it off, I have found that many major parks aren't designed or suited to beginners. Yes, even a 10 foot rail, 1 foot off the ground can be intimidating to some.

Summer camps and all-girl camps such as Progression seem to fill the void.

Yeah girls are like that for some reason. I was trying to have an audio convo over msn with this girl I know, and she wouldn't say a word because she claimed she didn't like her voice. Girls are just scared that people are going to laugh at them, or not like them, or something. I can't figure them out.

i think the main reason you see so many girl snowboarders and so few skiers is cause snowboarding is the 'new cool thing' and girls (not all of course im just saying the mast vajority of girls)think that in order to be cool they have to snowboard, because skiing 'is no longer cool'.

well let me tell you dude here in Québec there are more and more girls getting into twin tips. but there are a lot more on boards but the ones that have switched are getting to kill pretty good and the also look very good. love them french girls !!!

its because guys are dicks about it to be perfectly honest... some guys are chill and are like yea try this and help you out but most guys are just like you suck. its rough... guys just assume if you're in park you're a ski bunnie. Also its a lot harder for girls to do tricks then guys, our bodies are just built that way

^ im about as light as most girls and most girl who played sports are probly stonger then i am. that bull shit that girls are 'biuld diffrent' is true, but its not as true as some try and play it off as. Yes you have wider hips, brests and the fun spot down south, but does that mean you cant be as good as a guy? Skiing is so much more mental then physical.

in aus i hit the park, but mostly with my bros. i find that over here there are no girl skiiers in the park at all and that when im in there people yell stuff at you but its mostly from the idiots who board at schools near the mountain and they suck at skiing anyways. my bros try to teach me stuff and im really keen to learn but still they dont try to help me out that much. might be coz theyre protective of me bein their lil sis and bein scared of facin my parents when i end up in hospital but i still think its coz theyre scared that someday ill be better than them ;)

 
ya theres a girl i know that wants to learn 180s with me helping her but she doesnt want to do it in the park at all, shes like 'does it have to be in the park?' im like, wut the wtf? these r the easiest jumps on the mountian.

To add my thoughts to this, it's partly because a lot of girls just need to get over the fact that other people will watch them try something, and most likely fall a few times. Once that's done, there's a huge fear factor. A lot of times, it just takes a push, and many guys aren't willing to push a girl to try something for some reason. This may or may not be true about most girls, but a lot of times, I'll think too much about the negative things that could happen to me if I fell and whatnot. Maybe some girls just aren't motivated, or don't see it as being appealing or whatever, I don't really know.

Camps such as Progression are really cool because you're surrounded by girls, and while everybody is at different levels, there isn't that huge of a contrast between 'good and bad' skiing. Also, everybody is really supportive of each other, and sometimes you need somebody to cheer for you no matter how terrible you were.

Skiing would be alot better if girls were in to it as much as they seem to be with snowboarding. I think it is the whole deal with snowboarding being the 'cool' thing to do. There are ever so slowly more girls getting into skiing and park use each season.

i dunno to me skiing is freakin the coolest thing on the planet. but yeah sometimes i mean i can admit, ya know i dont wanna make a complete ass out of myself, but then i think, wait a minute ashley, quit being retarded and just do the damn thing, i mean ya gotta start somewhere right? but once you start bustin out its the best feeling in the world. but i dunno the guys i ski with are really chill. when ever we find a nice booter i'm always the one that is told to do the new trick, and they dont care if i eat shit and die, so its all good. its totally mental. and actually girls are more prone to tear their acls, thats a physical thing that can stop you not just hips boobs and a vagina, our knees like stop developing earlier on and it also has something to do with the estrogen in our bodies, but anyway...

skierbabe knows what she's talking about. i didn't used to be the only girl that skied park at Bachelor but now i am. one girl comes up sometimes but skis past the jumps and the other girl that is sick and so fun to ski with just tore her ACL. sucks so bad. like...there's a slopestyle comp tomorrow and pipe of sun. and i'm the only girl doing it, not that i don't mind winning, but come on, i want a little competition. fears a big part of it for me (hitting bigger jumps, doing rails, eating shit) but if you shut that fear off, you're usually a lot better than you expect. i think it's cool that not a lot of girls do it, i don't want it to turn into snowboarding where everything's pink and girly, not my style.

its not that they dont, its just that first off, more people snowboard, then secondly, men primarily dominate (in numbers) the freeskiing scene. suppose about 1/4 of the parks inhabitants are skiiers, then only about a third of those are chicks. just with those numbers, which obviously change where you live, it shows that there wont be many even on a crowded park day. besides, unless their wearing generally recognized 'girl' clothing, or you actually go talk to them, you really can't tell anyway.

to the 'we're built different' comment.... i would think that just from seeing some womens diving or gymnastics that girls have an ADVANTAGE with the flippy-spinny shit. girls are more flexible. girls can throw their bodies around. it's been proven in other sports. why doesn't it translate to skiing?
