Why doesnt or should NS have a pro team?

because every pro would be on it....

plus it won't increase their sales enough to have it make sense

this would allow a team and a physical catalog/magazine to make sense not to mention they could send issues out to every ski resort/ski town and increase NS exposure.

I think thats a conincidence cause he is sponsored by sessions and sessions did the collab with NS for that special jacket. I dont think there is someting like a NS-Pro-Team. Correct me if im wrong please.

No pro team. This is one of those things that we talk about endlessly here at the office, but really never can find justification for doing it.

Way back in the day there was an NSClothing pro team, but that was in like 2002/2003. The idea there was that NSClothing was going to be a separate clothing line and marketed on its own.

The issue with a pro team for Newschoolers is that its tough to justify how much it would cost us... and I'm not convinced that it would do a lot for us. Being a social media site like Newschoolers is makes us in a position where we do a lot more promotion of what is going on, and we don't really sell physical product all that much. The clothing that we sell is more of a bonus to you guys so you can rock the brand... compared to advertising it makes up an extremely tiny portion of our revenue.

We don't really want to go into selling stuff either (like being a ski shop) as that is very different from our core business. We're better off to work on reviewing product and educating people on where to buy it. That fits and it doesn't spike a huge amount of costs for us.

If anything, NS almost is going towards having a pro team of media people. We've got our gold-level NSTV producers who have been doing a fantastic job getting out there in the world and getting really awesome video. Supporting media people makes a lot more sense than supporting athletes... because really we support and promote all athletes as much as we can.

The NS jacket thing was definitely purely sessions, and Matt W. wore it because he chose to.

What I think we SHOULD do is get better at remembering to send pros free gear / stickers and such. So if they wish to rock the NS brand then awesome.

I'd be curious to hear more thoughts on this though, as I'm not totally sold its a bad idea... I just don't really have a good answer for how it would fit into the budget vs. say developing new features on the site.

really good points....

Though the one thing I would personally do if I owned newschoolers would be open a pro shop. I think th publicity online they get would translate so much into a really awsome and quality ski shop. A NS ski shop could easily be franchised out as well. While they could specialize in freeski gear/ apparel, etc, Having common stuff also would be huge.

maybe ns should invest more in the media side of thing, like they are doing but on a bigger scale, for example encouraging kids to make films and take pictures and getting them sick prizes in compotitions for example setting up a shoot for them with tom W or gus K, and deals with film companies, sort of expanding the scope of newschoolers as a ski community and more.

also i think if you do say sponsor riders and get the idea of how big ns is out there in the world, maybe a huge flash flood in every major city (a huge ns event), and making it click in compainies heads that here is where pretty much all of their customers reside, meaning that they will want to advertise on your website which = more revenue, which means you can open a shop or sponsor more riders or filmers and photographers.

Take a look at Ski The East. http://www.skitheeast.net/team They have a team and also sell clothing apart from being a forum and video site. Although they have differences from NS they are the closest site I can think of to NS that does have a team and could be compared. Just something for the guys at NS to think about.

Yeah! Well it is basically just Meat Heads but I wish they were on the team especially Shea who is in Meatheads movies.

Ns does have a pro team. Mods are like your style skiers, pure style, orange names are comp skiers.

Baller status contributes are like skiers who you've never heard of in a big movie, but has a super fucking sick edit you can't stop watching. Add baller status with 5000 posts you get skiers like the traveling circus

Makes sense, I think it would be interesting to see what a dream team for you guys at ns would look like though. Say you could pick around 5 to 10 athletes to rep ns right now who would they be?

"then were not just banking on the ringtones were selling the phones bitch!"

"does this look like a phone company to you?"

Those are some really good points!

Have you ever thought about a video contest where the NS community chooses a team of 5 or 10 Pro's to represent the community each season. The amount of Pro's that are on here it could make for a really cool contest and such and it would be like the NS community gets the opportunity to have the riders they love to see represent their favourite site
