Why doesnt line get some skiers!!

all i got to say is Wilson and Pollard id say 2 of the best skiers in the game. just watch the movies they are taking the sport 2 a new level

 
i think its sweet line doesnt do comps.. theyre kinda underground and dedicated to progression and having fun.. the way skiing should be

i dont see how competitons hold back progression...i mean people learn new tricks so they can show them off in a competition to prove they have learned better stuff so it seems like competitions drives people to learn new stuff and make up new stuff....if the competitons end up every person doing a swith 10 then i can see how it would hold back progression

I think some of you have missed my point. I am the first to say that Line has helped groom some of the best riders in the world. Mike Nick and Wilson and Skogan have helped make the sport what it is today, but from my understanding Mike N has pretty much stepped back to focus on Siver and Wilson and Skogan are no longer skiing Line. That leaves Dash, Bibby and Pollard. Dash and Bibby are amazing skiers, but are they really up there with the best? Pollard is for sure, but doesnt compete.

I think that competitions are essential. They provide free publicity to any of the sponsors across the world and give them the opportunity to let everyone know that they sponsor a champ. For anyone who suggests that Line deliberately avoid comps to stay underground, I wonder what Jay would say if you offered one of his skiers 1st place in X Games...after all, he's running a business.

I also think comps are important for the people like me that ride the product. As a Line rider I feel an affinity for the company, and i want to see people in comps riding the same skis as me...No matter how gay it sounds, I would be stoked if the X Games champ used the same skis as me and I think in a stupid way I'd be proud too. Im sure im not the only one who thinks like this (at least i hope so!)

I think that one of the reasons why Line is taking off so well here in the UK is because they have undoubtedly the best team in the UK, if not in the whole of Europe. Line is dominating competitions across the continent, and people who would previously only ever ride Salomon or Dynastar or whatever are starting to sit up and take notice because they're hearing about Line winning comps all over the place.

Anyway, I basically just wanted to say that Line has had some of the best riders ever, but what about now, even if you dont think comps are important Line only has 3 or 4 big current skiers that I can think of, Longe, Pollard and Bibby adn maybe Coker? Whoever said about Armada is right...they got straight in and grabbed a whole bunch of great skiers, and look how quickly its grown as a company. Line, despite having been around for years longer, has, in my view, been left struggling to stay ahead of Armada, if has any lead left on it all.

Line has a great team i think. comps are not everything like everyone thinks. Have you watched Wski106 Dash kills it in that movie and who said they dont have anyone good? CRAIG COKER AND JOSH BIBBY are great skiers. The X GAMES sucked this year so who cares. NO ONE CAN TOP ARMADA!!!!!

I see what Rich is saying here but then if Pollard doesn't ride comps because he feels it holds back progression in the sport then that is perhaps the best thing Line can hope for beause it supports their positioning as an 'underground', core progressive company...

Those guys arent in the Xgames because truly, they wouldnt even get to the finals. Pollard is a great skier pushing what is possible on skis, but he isn't a park skier.

^^woah dude, i know my 1st post was a bit blunt but chill out and read my other posts. I think those skiers are sick but like i said before Mike Nick's basically retired, and skogan and wilson dont ride line anymore. Of course Line dont NEED to have competitive riders, I just personally think that it would be cool to see some Line skiers on a few podiums.

mike wilson is sick...he's amazing. and ashley battersby is kickass as well. i think it's an awesome team

Line has a pretty good team, but compare it out to oter teams. Rossi has candid n henrik n sage, k2 has mark amba, pep seth, dynastar has the phils rainville deschneaux, armada has tanner auclair burke, they have a good team but i think its far from the best, especially if they dont have wilson no more

And to kamikaz, i would buy a really good ski even if it wasnt in comps or didnt have the best team, but line dont have the best skis so that doesnt really help them

b/c line could jsut be a bunch of f'ing geniuses. think about it, line wants to have athletes riding for them that push the sport. eric pollard and skogen, point proven. they dont want to sponsor a bunch of comp kids due to the boundaries that exist. but why are they sponsoring all of these groms?? well that my friend could jsut be the best marketing plan ever in skiing. these little groms are going to push the competition scene once they mature, look at what they are doing already, in some cases pre-teen! line gets these kids to ride their skis and in return will hopefully have them for all of their careers, crazy publicity and mad profit. could happen, just theororizing.

 
pollard is the best all around skier ever. dash is a steeze machine and will become like pollard in 2 years. bibby is one of the top switch pipe riders. Coker is just gonna get better. plus they have the best girls by far

Rich's post is probably on of the most thought out posts I've seen. Very cool. And I agree to a point. A team is designed to try and seel a product. Line seem to be pushing the Motherships, and overall powder skis as opposed to park skis with Pollard and Dash. They have added some new talent that are more competion oreinted so give them time.

Perhaps line feels more strongly about building a relationship with an athlete and helping them out from 'their' beginning and supporting them in any direction that said athlete cares to go.

Also, I would bet that line has chosen to market their skis to a different audience than those who are hung up on the x-games. By doing this, perhaps line brings the type of people they want riding their skis in, rather than projecting their skis on a group of people who they don't truly feel would benefit from riding lines. So, on that note, that is another opinion.

it's all well and good that a company makes the world's best ski. but i almost feel the need for someone to prove it to me that indeed, this ski is better than every other ski out there, and who better to prove it to me than a professional skier (after all, they are for the most part experts on skis, they use them more than everyone else).

i wish it wasnt this way, but there are many other similar skis and competing companies that potentially deserve my $500 or so. having a top pro dedicated to a specific ski increases my confidence in that specific product, and i guess thats why i like it when the ski i ride is also ridden by an all star cast of pros.

Line is still a fairly small company, just wait a few years and you'll see X games guys using Line skis for sure

 
who ever said pollard couldnt compete, thats a joke. that guy has more rail skill than everyone, and his jump gameis sick as hell too, he just doesnt focus on that stuff like he used too. that cat was slidin switch unnatty before some of these kids could even ski. shure he doesnt ride park much anymore ( and i really miss that, i always loved watching him ski park) but he could absolutely dominate anyone at x. he is such an amazing skier. hes been my idol since i first clicked into twins. NEVER diss pollard. he is on the level of greats like plake, morrison, schmit.

^ saying pollard would dominate at x games is a dumb comment. that's not what he is into. It like saying if Tanner entered a big mountian comp he could kill it like Seth Morrison.

Ya pollard hands down fucking kills it, and he is a ski icon, and always will be.

Tony B is also pushing it like pollard, and i would say is just as impressive.

its true that pollard dominated rails before everyone. he was going onto rails all 4 ways before anyone else, and with complete control and style. that being said, he doesnt have anything competition-wise on today's x-games skiers.
