....why does youtube even allow comments?

It just dawned on me...why does youtube even have a comments section?

Honestly, I started going through random videos, and failed to see a single comment that was intelligent in any way. A lot was racist, hate filled arguing. And the rest were those stupid trend comments like "mom, i have to go kill 50 people who dislike a video...but it's ok, because i have 500 people on my side." or any generic anti-bieber or thumbs up comment.

i feel like it severely degrades youtube's reputation, even though it's the users doing it, so whats the point?
 
my personal favorite is "thumbs up if you're listening to/watching this in 2011!"

I mean...as opposed to when? Shockingly, I find it quite impossible to watch newly released trailers from 2011 in any other year.
 
i don't understand the top comments. it switches like every hour and they all piss me off.
 
If any of you go on MLIA, wouldn't you agree it became super played out with all that, VOTE ME AVERAGE bullshit?
 
The vast majority are fucking annoying. But sometimes you get properly witty ones that add to the video. Like one where this cat fails at jumping across this gap, and the top rated comment was "It didn't fall, it just spotted something really interesting mid flight" which fit perfectly with the video.

In other news, I haven't slept for 35 hours...

I think if they got rid of the thumbs up for comments it would fix all the "THUMBZ Up MAH COMENT d00d" problems.

I noticed on the nyan cat video you can't thumbs up comments, and i'm ok with that
 
The worst is the comments you see on videos like "this drop is dirtier than blah blah blah" or "I was eating bread until 0:30, then I was eating toast"

THOSE piss me off the most. as well as all the dumb ass 11 year olds fighting 13 year olds about completely irrelevant topics.
