Why does skiing have to be in the lime light?

Why is it so importent to everyone that skiing gets big like snowboarding, sure they will be more stuff on tv about it, and more money into the sport, but is that really a good thing? Skiing keeps on getting better each year, you could put it is "catching up to snowboarding or maybe passing it." which is cool and all, really though does it need to happen? I recall the days when skiing was not the thing to do if you didnt snowboard you werent cool and back then it was awesome, now it seems people are just trying to out do other snowsports. I'm just saying I dont really like where the lime light is hitting skiing, with all the double flips and big spins, it is becoming like aerial, Jon Olson proved that really well with the experiment jumps. I'm not hating , just saying

Well it would be good to push the sport so that skiers can actually make somewhat of a living and/or so that the ski companies and companies involved in the sport can make more than just enough to get by, which is what they are at right now. I dont care, I would like to see the sport progress, but the more skiiers we have=more gapers in the park and asian invasions and what not.

more money=better products, better contests, better movies, and pros not having to work construction jobs all summer to pay their rent

it also means that all the girls at school might want to sleep with you because you are a skier and skiing the cool new thing

you do not have to worry about skiing being as popular/mainstream as snowboarding any time soon.

but i agree, there are pros and cons to skiing being mainstream. it is up to you to decide which outweighs the other.

Sounds good.

Literally everyone at my school snowboards. I am almost discriminated against lol....I dominate each and every single one of them

everyone needs to chill about the fact that our sport will/is going mainstream. the fact that regular people sitting at home know about us isn't going to hurt our sport. and the point about the experimental jump? are you serious? no trick was thrown on that jump that hasn't been thrown before. they made everything look sick on that jump... you sir, need to chill and realize that mainstream sports are not run by the devil

most people involved in the ski industry want skiing to grow, because they see the other side of it. they see how snowboarding has the advantage financially as well as access to anywhere, so its obvious why they would want "equal rights" for skiing. tanner hall is a big on the ideo of skiing growing, probably because he feels that skiing deserves to be in the limelight. for the rest of us "recreational" skiers i cant see any benefiet of skiing growing anymore than it had besides being able to see skiing on tv once or twice a year.

i agree, like big pros and people that work in the industry, i.e. people whos jobs rely on skiing want it to grow so that they get more opportunities / can make more money. but for people like me who just skis as a hobby it doesnt really make much difference. But i think alot of kids are like duuuurp, all these big pros are saying skiing should grow so we should say it too.

the only benefits for us are:

More opportnity for sponsorship (still won't happen for me.)

Better movies (good for everyone)

Cheaper Equiptment (PLEASE. I don't want to shove out 400 bucks for a park ski.)

More general public/friends who ski (a little good and bad to this more gapers, but more good kids too.

I would just like to say look at Travis Rice's new movie. That shit is in-fucking-sane. We need skiing to reach that kind of cinematography.

you must

A) suck

B) be emo

C) not know how to represent your shit

D) all of the above

E) Just answers B and C

no we need more money idc if ur the only freeskier on the hill or not u prob just suck and dont want to look bad but if we had a company like burton or watever some huge company we could get some sick stuff for cheaper but that would overall be better

Biggie said it best, "Mo Money Mo Problems" Kanye made it relevant to skiing..."Having money ain't everything, Not having it IS." Money will cause more problems in skiing but we cant have what we want without some.

dude, in my town way more people ski then snowboard. i mean no one is "frowned upon" because they ski or because they snowboard. both are normal and so many people are now doing freestyle skiing. its a shame that for other people its not that way.

me and my friend were talking about this today, and stop complaining that a pair of skis is $400, I could do $400 worth of damage to my bike in one bad crash. I've spent more on by bike in one season of dh racing than I have in my entire skiing career on skis. get a job, $400 is like 2 weeks of work at a crappy job that's not that bad.

i'm done.

i think its a good thing, skiing for a living is probably the best possible job anybody on the earth can do, and if skiers are making more dough because of it, its not gonna sell us out. its impossible for me to not love skiing, even when im having a bad day, and if i ever get paid to do it, it won't ever feel like a job, so get this: you are basically making a ton of dough, without having to "work" a single day in your life. how awesome does that sound?

I don't think you understand what he is trying to say. I believe that he is saying that other sports that are "bigger" are still expensive, its not like if the sport gets bigger everything will get cheaper. That is just what I think he is trying to say.

I can't even go on dates in the winter because I ski every friday night-sunday afternoon and then drive back to the city to go to school.

people who are sponsered are involved in the ski industry. i dont see much of a price difference between skis/snowboards. but your last 2 points are legit.

Now I'm in the limelight 'cause I rhyme tight

Time to get paid, blow up like the World Trade

Yeah I got that but I was just being a dick. Anyways, aren't bikes more expensive and more complicated so its like comparing apples and oranges. Because a ski is well a ski while there are many components to a bike. Leaving more things that could break.
