racers are just drones. they are under complete control of there coachs - so they do everything without question : wearing speed suits, training all day, training more, and more, and more, chasing gates, and taking it up the ass every night on ski trips

just so that they can become better at there sport. may be if you ^^^^^^^ would do the same you would progressivly become better at what your doing in skiing rather than tryin to be tough of an online forum.

racing was just never much fun to me.

training is just making the same exact turns over and over again with your technique progressing to a point before the conditions get too bad. and then on race day no matter how good you do you always feel like you did something wrong. just skiing is so much more exciting and way less stressful. and you don't have to spend all night tuning your skis, wake up extra early to get to a certain resort at certain time, and freeze in the spandex.

Theres nothing wrong with racing. Its got to be fun to tuck all the way down the hill in almost COMPLETE control. Its just another aspect of our sport. It doesnt seem like they ski for themselves most of the time and it looks pretty regimented but who cares, they're not forcing you to do it. IT also funnels money into our sport...and guys in spandex are funny to laugh at.

Somne of you guys are so narrow-minded it's shitty. Did it ever occur to you that maybe not all racers are drones under a coach. I've raced Skiercross for 3 years now, and you see no drones in that sport. I challenge anyone to run rollers, banked turns and tight gates at 40mph with 4 other guys shovin you. It a hell of a lot harder then most hits in park...most. I love park, but I'll always be a racer...I race for no one but myself, not for a coach, not for my parents, for me. When people hear 'racer' they think 'oh, faggot in a skin suit'. Thats bullshit. I've done over 70 skiercross events, and placed in 59 of them......in my baggy fate pants and orage jersey....not in skin suits. You guys need to look at with a poen mind, some people love the speed and the gates, other love the moguls, other love floating abouve the pipe. Nobody's niche is any less hard then the other, as long as you are progressing. Some of you guys are just as bad as snowboarders who hate skiers in the park, and your looking at it the same way as they are. Just keep a open mind. I hate racers in the park too, don't get me wrong, i hate it when they rut up a good run too. I run races on a atomic supercross set-up, and when i'm done i throw on my lines and rip pipe. I guess i'm done rambling this stupid shit.

some racers are good skiers but once they get off the course...they suck. its like they dont know how to anything else but go though the gates in front of them. and jumping...even worse. but i guess people will like what they want

 
Ya I raced for a long time and I would agree that it sucks. I agree that theres alot of cocky bastard racers who think they own the mountain cause they can win races...i think i was one. I quit cause I got sick of doing nothing but running gates all day like a drone.

BUT...i definatly have to say that i wouldnt be half of the SKIIER i am today without it. As far as my park skills, its made that way harder for sure. Im getting over it though. I can think of more than a few park rats id like to see run some gates though. it would be hillarious.

I dont see how you guys can hate racing so much. Last time i checked whether you race or jib you are doing the same thing: skiing. If you dont like what racers are doing, than dont do it, but dont hate it.

This whole thing with racing sucks and freestyle is the exact same thing as snowboarders saying that skiing is gay and the same thing as skiers saying that snowbladers suck. i dont race and i dont skiblade but hey why can you just drop the whole fucking subject and go out and ski

i think that had i not been a racer, i wouldnt be nearly as good as i am today, i find that racers end up being alot more well rounded skiers. and when i was racing i didnt wear the skin suit except for races, and for one day before the race jsut to get used to the 'restrictions' of the damn thing. and as for racers ruining the trail, i think youre full of shit, theyre probably the least hard on the trails, except for the area of the course after they take it down, but thats only if they dont fix the ruts they made, which they should always do. i think that everybody here talking shit is jsut pissed that when the park is in bad condition they dont have the skills to go have fun on the rest of the mountain

 
yeah i only hate racers who are dicks and think they rule the mountain and think that freeskiing sucks, i used to race on the high school team, and most of the people on it were cool, but a few were fags, but generally racing helps you out a lot

I dont know...I raced on a races course that got changed from red to blue so the course was against all the ruts....there was like a 3 ft. pile of snow with a lip...hiting that going about 40 was fucking scary...the gatekeeper got his ass beat

I race and I think that shit is fun. By fun I mean going 70 mph in complete control. When was the last time you did that? Try it and you'll shit your pants. But after all my races I always go to the park or the pipe bust crazy shit. I definatly have love for freeskiers and would always love to be skiing around or in the pipe/park doing sick shit. But I also have love for my fellow racers. The tight suits suck and we don't wear them much anyways. But after the races or training I am all for hitting the park.

 
Racing is fun, but newschool is like 1876 times better, but it is still fun to go out and try to beat evreyone els in gates, as long as you are skiing you are cool

 
Okay... i'll settle it once and forall!

It is just differance of opinion, some people prefer powder, some like ripping fast and some like jumping... I enjoy all. I never have raced and never will (except maybe the peak to valley race at whistler, which is a race all the way down the mountain and is open to anyone). I also kinda wanna do the velocity challage, it is at a BC interior mountain called Sun Peaks and they groom a steep ass doubl black and have straightline speed record attempts. Last year the top speed was 185 km/h with is abouit 115 miles. I don't like the strictness that racing has, and the coaches and everything... the freeride teams at some mountains aren't better tho. Also, i am not a big fan of the suits. Anyway, you should ski for yourself, whether is be big mountian, park/pipe or racing... whatever is the most fun for you. Also that thing about skiers hating racers like snowboarders hating skiers is probably true... but i think that just like most skiers don't mind snowboaders, most racers don't mind park rats. Also the cocky racers are FAGS, and closing a run to the public for a race is GAY... however, the park is sometimes closed for a comp...

Anyway... i don't really care, do whatever you like... i like to Freeski

I do both ski race and newschool. I like both and so doesn't every one eles on my race team. I dont know why you are all saying racers are losers and all of this other stuff. I like to race cause it is fun but so isnt newschool skiing. You all should have more diversity in skiing.

I raced for 8 Years and it made me a really good skier. Look at all the people who are good. Seth Morrison, Shane McConkey, Dean Cummings, Jon Olsson. just to name a few. It establishes great skiing skills. I can honestly say I loved my racing days. And for those who think its gay, you should try it. It takes huge nuts to go fast. If you don't believe me, jump out of your car driving down the highway. Its the same as a downhill crash

 
racing takes balls, id like to see some of the people on here ski the doug smith downhill, they'd shit their pants. plus it also dependes on the team and level of racing. my coach duzn't care if we ditch training, as long as we are out skiing.
