Why does car shopping suck so hard?

Seriouosly. The most stressful experience in my life so far. My car got totaled out(flood damage) and I am currently without a car so my GF has been driving me around everywhere.

I feel like I am not asking for much. Newer Honda, under $12k out the door. Already preapproved for whatever small amount I need($5000 or less) by my bank and am willing to throw down almost $8k cash anywhere I go.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? Although I know most of you can't relate since your parents bought you your cars, but c'mon. This blows dick.

Honestly, as much as this sucks, I have accompanied girls to help with car selection and what not and I have been told pretty dang consistently, that they got better service. I think sometimes a lot of dealers can be sexist and just not take a single young woman seriously. Which is unfair because I take single young women very seriously.

Now that that's out of the way:

It's a real fucking haggle and it sucks for everyone. A couple of pointers:

1. Having hard cash available in large doses helps -- let them know you're ready to lay a couple g's down IF the deal is right.

2. NEVER under any circumstance, present yourself as needing a car quickly, they'll bleed you. Act like you don't have a pressing time frame.

3. Shop around and bring different offers back to dealers. It's a lot of legwork but it shows you mean business and know their competition. A lot of the time for dealers it's not as much about the final sale but simply about moving volume (not always), so if you can force them low to move a product you can gain some leverage.

4. Look past dealers. Drive around. Hit up craiglists, autofinder, etc. The best car I ever bought was off the side of the road.

5. Ask lots of questions, believe me, they want to sell shit, so learn from them and make them help.

6. Go back to the same people at dealerships. They love that shit, a lot of them work on commission and will work hard to make you their customer.

7. Do you have to buy such a new car? What's wrong with used if you've got some G-notes to throw done on a used deal steal?

Sorry dude, couldn't see past the pink.

So you're just venting?

I think #7 still stands -- do you really want to go new car?

Indeed, just venting.

And I am looking at 2009 and newer. Don't want anything older, don't want a huge loan. Anything I finance will be paid off in under 2 years, regardless of price.

Till the wheels fall off type of thing. Planned on doing the same to my other till it was totaled out.

In this case I suggest you get a volvo, probably a c30 would fit you right. It'll out last you before you see the wheels fall off that's for sure.

You're reading comprehension is killer, dude.

Correct. Started to type 'you're an idiot' then reconsidered.

Thanks for the catch, darling.

Was going to do the same, but I resisted and decided to go with a statement that's a little less harsh. You're a cunt.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume you just really hate shopping for a new car.

Nailed it in one.

That, and NS if full of a bunch of fucktards. I'm surprised you can still deal with it after this long.

I take some sabbaticals, take the bad with the good.

I do sincerely wish you good luck though dude, from one old school member to another, car shopping can just be the fucking pits. Can be a lot of slogging. Hope you score a good deal! If you remember (no sweat), I would be curious what sort of rate/purchase you end up with.

Thanks. Plan on making a few calls tomorrow, see what I can wrangle up. Working 10-7p makes it kind of hard too.

Why ask for help if you're gonna be a choad to whoever helps you...

Quoting for emphasis.

OP is mad the blowjobs he gives doesn't give him a price reduction at the dealerships.

Also I fucked OP's GF

idk...i like car shopping. especially with the internet being what it is these days. if you're willing to travel a little bit, you pretty much have to be dumb, deaf, and retarded to not be able to find exactly what you're looking for

OP makes a thread stating a problem, blasts helpful people trying to solve the problem, wants to "just vent" instead of solving the problem, then claims to actually be a guy... hmmmmm....

I'm in the same situation. Buying my first car (!) and there are literally no (new) cars that have 4WD in a manual transmission. I'm not asking for much guys .... Subarus are nice and all but fucking expensive new... I finally found a couple of nice options on autotrader ... I would check that site out too, if I were you. But yes, buying a new car sucks balls.

i can relate, i am shopping for a new car right now and having to rely on people for rides sucks, especially when you are used to having the freedom of your own car.

that said, I'm not sure why your having such a hard time, in my area there are lots of 09+ hondas with low miles under 12k. and if you have 8k cash in hand you should have pretty good bargaining power. if you haven't already check auto trader. also, any reason you limit yourself to just honda? open it up to some other brands and you'll probably have a bunch more options.

has pink name, actually is dude. However, takes me a worryingly long time to figure that out in this thread.

You sir, are a bitch.

And I am, in fact, a male. I promise.

Going to look at a 2011 Fit Sport tomorrow.

Not going to stance it out, no need for AWD.

Where can I get A LOT more bang for my buck? Please, enlighten me.

Where are your balls victor? a FIT weighs about 3x my bench, that's probably one of the bottom 15 safest cars available in the last 3 years. Get a KIA optima sport if you want a cheap sedan, fuck, I got a 2007 used Audi 2.0T Quattro with 64k miles for $14k 5 months ago. I have the pink.

You're going to get shit on for choosing a fit just because NS is a bunch of insecure 12 years olds who can't imagine driving anything besides their sweet lifted trucks. Honestly though, it's a super good car.

copypasta

Well, as far as practical economy cars go its the most fun. Its light (2480lbs for the manual), responsive, revs (redlines just under 7K), and had interesting handling characteristics. It has a torsion beam in the rear and the tail kicks out fairly easily if you want it to. The manual is one of the best, the clutch is very light. I learned to drive standard on mine, and I have never missed a single gear, its so precise and smooth. At one point I let my dad borrow it, hes driven manuals for his entire life and he thought there was something wrong at first because of how easy it was to move between gears. So while its slow as shit its fun to drive, which means you can go squealing around an off ramp with the tail threatening to come out but you won't be breaking any laws.

In addition to being fun for class it is has other things going for it. It gets great milage, with OEM tires and summer blend gas I get 34/45/37 mpg. I don't exactly drive conservativly. It has 57.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which is 13 more than the last gen Ford Explorer. The magic seats allow for a completely flat cargo floor, or the seat bottoms can fold up against the back allowing for tall things. It has great visibility, its small and easy to maneuver. Its safe for class. The interior is well put together, albiet cheap. It should be reliable. It has tons of space, it will comfortably seat four adults, I'm 5'10" and still have inches of knee room behind my properly adjusted driver's seat, not the case in bigger cars I've tried this in, like the Mazda 3 and VW Tiguan.

For a DD its pretty great, it has all the benefits of small cars, plus some of the benefits of large cars and SUVs, all while being fun to drive, if driving a Fit hard doesn't put at least put a small smile on your face you aren't an enthusiast. All for ~$15k-$17K new. Its definitely one of the best engineered, and best value for money cars out there today.

Yup. My roommate used to drive one and she let me borrow it from time to time. Love the way it handles and the feel of it.

Honestly though, I'm not too concerned with doing anything to it, mod wise, for now. Just want something nice an reliable, but cheap and easy to fix if something happens.
