Why do you ski?

People have long asked me why I love skiing so much? I never knew how to respond to them except by saying "I don't know, I just do." After years of skiing and doing what I love it, the answer finally came to me. I suck at drawing, painting makes no sense, music is a foreign language, my voice is awful, its better I don't dance, but skiing, yeah I can do that. So it dawned on me that skiing is MY art and the mountains are MY canvas. I'm not a very vocal or expressive person, but skiing is my release. Its my way of expressing my individuality, freedom, and who I am in a form unlike any other. No one tells me how to ski, or what I can or cannot do, so it is just me and only me out there. And just like art, few may applaud, and often many may criticize, but I don't care, thats their choice. I'm going to continue to ski and create my art the way I see it. So, to answer all of them, that is why I love skiing.

Because nothing is more appealing than being out in the cold all day long, getting cut off by gapers, and doing things that could seriously hurt me. The thrill behind bombing a hill, or hitting your first rail/jump is amazing. Nothing compares. I can't think of anything better than the smell of crisp winter air and my resorts french fries. Seriously, they're the best. And I can't help but love the 20 minute drive to the hill that turns into more than an hour because it's snowing and I want a taste of fresh pow. I couldn't see myself getting into a uniform and going to play in a game every week. I'd rather get in my ski shit and be with my friends on the hill for the fun of it. A few rail jams a year is fun tho.

But why do I ski? Simply because it makes me happy and there's no better reason than that.

100%, all the time, it's for the ladies.

Seriously, though. It's about that feel when you stomp something or shred that line you've been lining up and waiting for the conditions all season. When it all comes together just how you want it to it feels so nice. That and deep winter stormy ass days where you get refills and everyone else is watching the super bowl or something because it's so gnarly out.

this is why

I ski so that I too can be associated with great people like yoski and El Barto on a fantastical communal website

Yeah right! Skiing makes me feel like there's No Problem in the World. Only appreciation in Nature and The Creator. I love the feeling every time I'm on the mountain. It makes me feel at ease, confident and free. It is also my stress reliever.

Because my dad and I never relate and this is the only thing we both enjoy. And it's an excuse to get out of school to go to park city only if it's just for the day.
