Why do YOU hate warren miller?

i like how they are like ski documentaries but personally I think MSP has stepped it up more than Warren Miller has in the ski documentarie catagory and the skiing is just all around sicker in MSP films

the new one looks amazing, last years was really long but had easily the best cinemetography and the best powder shots ive ever seen in my life.

not too many park shots, but it still got me really stoked on skiing.

i don't hate warren the man. i love warren.

as for his movies...eh they are not so good right now. very lame actually. the last good one was storm, and since then warren miller entertainment (important distinction) has laid several eggs.

I enjoyed his movies in the 80's and mid 90's but now, it seem like his company buys footage from other companies and portrays it as their own.

I just watched "Off The Grid" and Jeremy Bloom is the narrator. There was "classic wit" from Warren himself, but that was just old audio clips from his older movies. I would imagine he is getting too old to be super involved in his movies, which is just a shame because he is a legend.

I think they are producing movies on smaller budgets trying to get the same result as before, and his movies are suffering. I have no hard evidence of this it is just my opinion.

I also think that warren miller film's target audience has no idea about the stock footage coming from other companies, nor do they care. Those of us that are familiar with the free-ski scene are the only ones that would notice this.

I do not hate him, I just think his company should bow out of the game gracefully as he is not so involved anymore. Although as long as there is money they will make movies.

I don't hate them, but I don't cherish them as much as I do Level 1, MSP, and PBP. Warren Miller is just a bit too mainstream, MSP has progressed more than Warren. I haven't seen Playground yet though...

dont hate on warren miller

the first ski movie that got me super stoked on skiing was a warren miller movie

i will never forget the shot in one of his movies where the camera man was set up across the valley from aspen mtn and zoomed in so you could see people ripping huge turns down groomer and then pulled back and you can see the whole mtn and town.... i watched the special features and they said the lens they used for that shot cost 20,000 $

yea srsly, warren miller is awesome, sure hes film arnt as good as they were a couple years ago, but he revolutionized ski cinematoggraphy, he did a lot for the sport

dude warren miller is the man. he is like freekin 80 years old and covers all aspects of skiing.. its been his passion all his life.. how can u hate on someone like that

Uh Warren Miller films a ton of shit on their own. Most large comps you enter, you have to sign a waiver that Warren Miller Films will/can use the footage in their movies. They have videographers everywhere.

On another note, Playground was a really entertaining movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great skiing, great cinematography, and some really cool shit.

i really just dont like how much powder there is. its one thing if your doing it for a half hour straight (or longer), but when your watching it for a half hour straight... ehh

i personally don't like the editing style in the last few warren miller's. it's like they're trying to make it look like a hollywood blockbuster by having tons of shots one after another and i hate how they cut most of their shots in half and you never see the entire turn or trick, especially the park segs where it's just jump after jump but they're cut midway in the air. did warren miller only pay for half the footage to save money?

how can anyone from the midwest not like warren miller when he has given us the best advice for making a move west that anyone has ever heard? for the past few months, his movies have been playing on one of the movie channels, and it has been awesome.

You may not enjoy the overall style of the movies, but appreciate what they have done, and what they continue to do for our sport. They have a HUGE tour that puts our sport on screen in front of thousands and thousands of people leading to large numbers of people going out and spedning money on equipment and going skiing. The bigger the exposure, the better it is for everybody. It only helps to grow skiing and raise public awareness of what we all do.

Whether or not you like warren miller you cant hate on his stuff he has been in the game longer then all of us and has done more for skiing then any of us will do

everytime i think of those movies i remember the episode/movie they had of the kayakers bobbing down the mountain doing the sweet ass tricks and shredding it. i was pretty impressed with that haha

has an itermission... but i did get a free pass to the canyons in park city so makes up for it... i never went to the movie haha just bought a 15 dollar ski pass

the old movies are fucking sick

if youve seen Storm, then you know what im talking about, its what got me into freeskiing

i like warren miller. he helped the progression of skiing a ton and put a shitload of effort into his movies. now that the sports bigger yeah theres other companies that also make great movies, but i like his too. i like how he involves all of skiing, and not just straight park for 60 mins, keeps it more interesting. yeah sometimes it gets boring wen its bode or w/e, but again, unless its a real good movie, park for 60 mins can get a little boring by the end

YES! exactly. I agree 100% Tim. i could watch the skiing if the voiceover was gone, but it just kills it completely.

i just saw "off the grid" was pretty good i thought, amazing powder shots... Its on Starz on demand fyi if anyone wants to see it.

Yeah back in the day Warren Miller was cool but then when they started adding snowboarding because it was cool and would get them money they went in a different direction. Warren Miller just doesn't make the kinds of movies we want to watch. They are okay for entertainment factor but they aren't really progressive for skiing. So they just aren't all that good any more because Warren Miller lost site of skiing and where it is going.

I was not referring to comp footage specifically, nor doubting the power Warren Miller has. I really think I have seen the same shots in other films as well as his. One that came into mind was jaime pierre's infamous 255 foot cliff drop, although maybe they had cameras there as well, I don't know.

All in all, I miss the old Warren Miller movies. I remember some good times as a kid going and seeing the movies with my family.

i saw it last night, there was like 2 shots of actually skiing at the joi and they were super zoomed out and you couldnt see them

this years, Playground, was pretty good i though. I really enjoy going to those movies. plus you can score free tickets at some places with them.

soo much free stuff comes with the ticket purchase. i get a free lift ticket to stratton, free mid week to smugglers, free lift ticket to ascutney, 2 for 1 lift ticket at waterville and 25 dollars off at omer and bobs. plus all the stickers and giveaways at the movie. and the movie itself is skiing and skiing is good. it always starts off my season.

soooo true

we would be no where with out warren miller

he has done a lot for skiing but his newer movies suck

the ones from the 50's were good

They are really starting to bring in some pipe and park which i think is a big step. I love the big mountian shots but it's good they are branching out. I grew up watching those every oct. so it's kidna something i do every year. I haven't gotton bored yet. Some of the the videos from about 3-5 years ago are really good.

nobody hates him but if theirs like 100s of noname skiers on this website from my understanding that can school most of the bitches in his movies
