Why do some skiers act "gangsta" or "ghetto"?

I have always wondered, why do some skiers dress in "ghetto" clothing and acting "gangsta"? Its not like i am against that in any way, but i find it sort of weird. First of all, i have never seen actual gang members from say the bloods coming to ski, and shredding the mountain. Most skiers are white, but i still see the n****r word used on some threads, which is really disrespectful against African Americans. As I said before, i am in no way insulting any skiers, I just dont really understand where this "ghetto" thing came from in skiing, and why it has become so popular.

What a great observation! I've never thought about this before. Did you know that one of my hobbies is beating dead horses?

I agree bro, that shit makes skiing look bad. Hate on me or not, I dont care. Really though, when I lived in Keystone I would see guys with there pants to there knees and a jacket that looked like a dress. WTF? How did that ever become a fad? It makes us look so bad. There is nothing gangster about skiing.

to be fair i've always wondered the real reason too. there's the obvious white kids wanting to be black rap being cool or whatever but is there a seminal moment or event which triggered it...?

dude it's simple curiosity. no hate. no beef.
i personally thing it can be pretty rad. slumdog illionaire is one of my favourite little edits, just a few people out there would like to know how it came about. like who was the first popular skier to do it (but obviously trying to find the first ever is a vain and fruitless labour)
now chill out bro

We know what a fad is. Why the stupid gangster look for skiing? What does skiing have to do with being gangster? Most of the people trying to be gangster are some little rich kids.

tanner , CR and crew started the whole gorilla gangsta steeze. before that everyone was into the rocker music, normal fitting clothes, and just tweaking grabs. Tanner is the godfather of steeze and gangsta

You really don't figure that out, huh? Let's break it into pieces.

Rap music. Rappers wear baggy clothes, act ghetto/badass/thug/gangsta.

Back in the day some snowboarders listened to rap music, took the influences to the slopes and wore baggy clothes and acted all gangsta.

As we know, newschool skiing is heavily influenced by snowboarding. Some skiers adopt the gangster look and it becomes a fad. And you already know what a fad is so I don't have to explain it to you.

And wonder why people still dress/act all gangsta even if they know that it's just a fad? Harlaut/Wallisch/Brogan/etc put the bangin-steezy-tricks-in-a-continuous-flow image to gangster look. Who wouldn't want to be like them? People want to be like the pro's and therefore adopt their style. This gangsta thing is just a bit bigger.

So now we have a bunch of people who throw hand gestures to the camera while Biggie Smalls is playing in the background. And people like me who think that skiing should be about having fun and analyzing outerwear and style on internet forums is gay. (You can spot a lil bit of irony here.)

Sorry for possible flaws in grammar, I dont care to correct the text.

I guess I dont get it cause I always did my own thing, not someone else's thing. It just makes our sport look trashy.

Newschool skiing IS actually almost "someone else's thing" meaning snowboarding in this case. Skiing (park) owes a lot to snowboarding and that's a good thing to know.

Maybe you should stop being a whiny apologist. I have friends who are snowboarders, but I am a skier, and I prefer to ski with skiers. Snowboarding in general owes a lot to skiing.

Skiers were building jumps and jumping off them, as well as doing tricks years before the birth of snowboarding.Don't believe it? I can probably post up a few pictures of people doing flips on skis in the 40's-50's.

Yeah, I believe that because I know that. It's just that I was talking about modern NEWSCHOOL park skiing which has taken more from snowboarding than has given to it.

And of course you prefer to ski with skiers and so do I because we all have four edges, not two. I don't feel like I should kiss snowboarders arses just because newschool skiing is influenced by snowboarding. I'm really not a whiny apologist, this thing just came up with the gangster-look discussion, OK?

Not all of skiing is just learning tricks and skiing park...half of it is skiing the backcountry, the trees, and in the powder. Newschool skiing is a mix of both.

Can you read? In the brackets behind the word "skiing" it says "park" meaning park skiing. I put it there so it wouldn't be confused with skiing on the whole. If you read the whole discussion, you'll realize why I'm speaking of park skiing only. I'm very aware of all the forms of skiing by the way, thanks.

I'm being gay again, sorry. I should stop.

I think it might have to do with the fact that newschool skiing is different from what skiers are usually thought of. the stereotype is that all skiers wear tight clothing, like to race and all that blah blah blah. so i guess it might have something to do with us trying to break away from that, and it kinda grew into a trend. idc though, i just say do whatever its just about having fun we will all die one day anyways. i willl say that i do enjoy baggy clothing and tall ts, but that doesnt mean i try to act ganster cause im indredibly white haha.

I dont really think skiing is ghetto. Most edits that are ghetto now are a joke (ex. Hyph dog Killionaire.) So yeah...I wear big outerwear becuase i think its what looks good, and its fricken comfortable!

Nah, nothing started it, just white people apparently not realizing what color their skin is. Most main stream rap sucks alot too, but white kids wanting to be black listen to it/buy it. Good rap is like Immortal Technique/Jedi Mind Tricks/Army of the Pharaohs, not 50 cent and Lil Jon(Although I know its harsh to name the worst shit of mainstream rap in comparison, Lil Wayne has a few songs that actually sound good).

I am 6'1" and I wear a Large Jacket and Medium Oakley Pants(neither are tight though, I think the emoness of being tight is worse than the thinkyourblackness of 6XL tall Ts and pants). WHITE POWER

all this is about the style....thats all!!

if one guy do a 360 with like ghetto clothes get more style than the guy using thight clothes!!just looks better..
