Why do some parents drop so much money on their kids cars?

My parents bought me a new car so they would never have to help me with money to fix it and I have to give the money back when I sell it

And how much money do you donate to third world countries?

When you go out and spend your extra money on booze or pot do you think of those starving kids? Everytime you order too much food or go to a fancy restaurant do you think of the starving kids? I dont, I'm going to assume you dont..

so why is everybody talking out of their ass when that kid is not talking about us? His parents had the money. Our parents don't... time to move on kids

Because they are mad that they are forced to take care of snotty spoiled children so they buy them a super car in the hopes they wrap it around a tree.

^^^ I just read the thread for the first time. I assumed it meant nice car as in new. And I agree, nobody should have a super car bought for them

I almost pity kids with nice cars. Having to worry about taking care of a nice car in high school would have sucked.

Having a beater was a blast. You can do whatever you want with it. You can fit 10+ people in it, hit speed bumps going 40mph, park like an asshole and store whatever you want in it because you don't need to worry about it. You can hit berms as small jumps in one. And if any repair costs over $100, it's more worth it to just buy a new one.

And on top of that, you learn to drive safely because even the mildest fender bender will probably kill you. My car had no airbags, and those auto seat belts that would come off if my door opened. It was pretty much a go-kart.

My first car (not my photo obvy), paid $600 out of my own pocket.

I'm glad my parents made me work to earn the privilege to drive. If they had just handed me a car I would not have learned to appreciate the opportunity I was being given. It also made me work harder to purchase myself a nicer car, which I did. She was old, so she was perfect for the young and unwise driver that I was. I learned many a lesson with her. And thankfully no major accidents. While I wanted a newer and nicer car, I can now look back and know my parents were teaching me a valuable lesson.

I don't really give a shit anymore. Kids at my school have nice cars. But if you pay form it by yourself, why not? There are of course your tit babys but thats gonna be in every school.

my parents bought me and my brother our first car, vw golf 1.6, super nice imo. Didn't really have to work for it, but both my parents work full time so its helpful for them if they need shopping done and we're pretty much obliged to let them borrow it if they need to.

why would you want a maserati in the first place? so many way cooler cars for less money...

That being said, if the parents want to spoil their kids and buy them stuff like that, its really noones problem/issue but their own. My parents wouldnt buy my a car (but I live in germany, so its different anyways), but I can use my parents/grandmas/grandpas/whoevers cars whenever I want to. Way better way anyway. No insureance for me to pay, no repair costs and this way I get to drive way nicer cars than I would ever buy for myself.

I was fucking overjoyed when I got my sisters 2000 vw passat as a hand-me-down. Yet there are kids at my school who complain about their fucking rx8's and z4's. Pisses me off.

No wonder, the RX-8 guzzles gas faster then the Arabs can pull it out of the ground. And the Z4 is a bit of a midlife-crisis car.

i think a comma slipped. like he meant he was going 50mph which was over twice the speed limit.

I believe this to be the truth. It seems that to some rich people*, showing off their wealth is the most important part of having wealth.

And what better way to show your wealth off then buying a frivolous car for your likely ungrateful child?

*Please note, this does not refer to all wealthy as there are also many who are humble and are not at all concerned with appearing wealthy to others.

my friends dad bought him an A3, then he totalled it and has a Impreza WRX now haha.

my dad bought me a pontiac sunfire, it was $2000

my first car was $1200. my parents make plenty, but i still paid for that car myself. why do people care what kids drive? being jealous isn't gonna get you a nice car

except that many kids will still do shit like that even with a nice car because they have no real appreciation of it's value. generalized statement here, of course.

so much this. people get so worked up about things that shouldnt affect them.

Males shouldn't be jealous that's a female trait

Watch you mad 'cause you push dimes and he sell weight?

You all don't know my expenses, I gotta buy a bigger place

Hehehe, and more baggies, why you all aggie?

Nigga respect the game, that should be it

What you eat don't make me shit

also:

We do not have an absolute power to adapt things outside us to our use. Nevertheless, we shall bear calmly those things that happen to us contrary to what the principle of our advantage demands, if we are conscious that we have done our duty, that the power we have could not have extended itself to the point where we could have avoided those things, and that we are a part of the whole of nature, whose order we follow. If we understand this clearly and distinctly, that part of us which is defined by understanding, i.e., the better part of us, will be entirely satisfied with this, and will strive to persevere in that satisfaction. For insofar as we understand, we can want nothing except what is necessary, nor absolutely be satisfied with anything except what is true

I can't get over this thread is that why its really like in America? Here in the uk when I was at school if you could drive you certainly would not have a new car. If you had something less then 10 years old you were lucky. No car would be worth more then the equivalent of 2000 bucks most much much less. Maybe I'm just old and things have changed but wow. Wish I went to school now in the USA

My parents bought me my first car. It was an 85' Honda Civic and it was a champ. I grew up on an acreage about half an hour from the nearest city. I finally had some freedom, but along with that freedom came responsibility and the expectation that I would get a job.

Those are some sweet parents. I wish I didn't have my dirt poor, piles of human waste that are collectively known as my parents.

Lets not forget that starving kids come from irresponsible parents who had copius sex without the means to support and feed their children. Funny thing is, those starving kids parents are so fucked up they dont even care, and they have more sex and more kids while their current kids are still starving. Fuck em

I got a 06 wagon from my mom that was sorta mine but is now mine. When I was 16 if it was snowing she would take it to work. If she needed to take stuff to the dump or move stuff it would be used for that kind of stuff. I also shared it with my brother. My mom bought me and my brother a nice car because if we got into an accident the newer safety devices would save us. I grew up driving I495 and the average speed is 80 mph with all lanes full with every masshole sucking at driving and cutting in front of you.

Me and my brother also got jobs at 16 and required driving to get to our jobs. Public transportation would make you late for work and get your ass caned.

If your a kid with a nice car you should get a job and at least help your parents out way more than you usually do.

Guys none of you have the right answer.

The parents actually didn't save enough to get the kid through 5-6 years at a private school, so they bought him a fast car in hopes that the kid will kill himself, collect insurance on the car to recoup their expenses, and won't have to declare bankruptcy watching their kid spent 11 semesters snorting any substance within arms reach while 'earning' their liberal arts degree.

Man kids that get jealous over other people things are fucking dumb. Why the fuck do you care? If they have the money then good for them. They can spend it however they want. If I was super rich I'd definitely buy my kid a nice car. People that talk about how other people don't deserve something as nice as they have are the last people that should be able to have nice things. Grow up and accept that some people have more money than your parents and their kids are obviously going to benefit from that money.

i fucking hate people who give other people shit for money and possessions, like does it really matter? i drive an old audi which costed 6000 dollars, and i constantly get shit at gas stations and generally anywhere i go in public for driving an audi, mostly from people easily 20 years older than me. seriously get over it, possessions arent all in life, having a shit old audi sure hasnt improved my life in any way.

My parents let me drive "my" car because I got super lucky. The old Volvo I had got totaled so my parents decided to get my mom a new Subaru and let me drive my mom's old car. 2009 4Runner Sport, so it's not a super car, but it's still way nicer than I could have ever afforded on my own. This fall when I go to college I'm not taking it with me, so it's going to become my brother's car when he gets his license and I might buy it from my parents once I'm out of college. Did I do anything to deserve a $40k SUV? Nope. Does it make sense that I drive it given the situation? Yup. There's your answer.

Agree with the sentiments but when it comes to a teenagers car I think its pretty tasteless and common to have a kid driving around in something brand new that costs over 50k. 10-20k sure. I am from one of the snobbiest cities in MA. Noone sent their kid to school in a brand spanking new luxury car. Some kids had nice cars but they were 5+ years old. I can't understand self respecting white people going overboard and hooking their kid up to the extreme. Minorities if they can afford it I can see doing it, sure thats how they behave like when they buy babies air jordans despite being poor. But nice well to do white people? Eh not really a new luxury car for a teenager is trashy.

But I guess the rest of the country is different from Boston and rich white people might actually do that. (I guess places like California and shows like the Hills or OC thats the way they roll.)

The only expensive shit I got growing up was sports equipment. And thats the only expensive luxury shit I plan on ever giving my kids. But like you said, if a kid walks into the locker room with a 200 dollar hockey stick the poor kids on the team are gonna be jealous and hating.
