all i have to say, the killing of the helmsdale jumps in those two movies. especially the bs 180 no grab going like 120 feet. maybe it takes less skill than skiing, but the bottom line is snowboarders are doing stuff now that skiers will never do, having so many variations and such. yea and vivid has 1 park jump, 2 rails shots, and no pipe shots.

i seriously want to quit skiing now. all these people who say skiers blow boarders away in comps....well comps dont mean shit. snowboarding is like skating the best rider of the year has the best video seg, not comp results.

but still its snowboarding? snowboarding is what started it all, then skiers are like oh what if we pull rodeo 540's just like the snowboarders, we could be cool too.. its not even that... its say a jump in the back country a skier can only do a handfull of tricks off of it. u have to land forwards, because if u land fakie on a real bc jump ur going to get owned. skis just cant land backwards going fast in powder. snowboarders have so many grabs, positions and over all more control.

they need to make skiis with higher tails so you can land in deep pow and go fast. but think about it when you land forwards goin mach three on skiis in deep pow you have to lean yourself back so essentially if you land backwards you should almost reach for the ground and scrape your hands until you can revert. also cr johnson lands a few fakie bc jumps in frontline but they arent that big, only like 50-60 feet. and pollard can ski pow fakie, it just takes skillz, i bet we will see it in years to come. and also snowboarders are never going backwards ever, so that makes skiing coola cuz you can move tottaly backwards which takes mad skill.

this is my take on it

snowboarding has been around much much longer then newschool skiing has. therefore when it comes to the technology of equipment, ideal jump making technigues, best places to ride, so on and so forth, they are way ahead of the game.

see but there is the undeniable fact that skiing had exploded over the last couple years, and that is thanks to newschool. sure some of the ideas were borrow from snowboarding, but if it wasnt for skiing, snowboarding wouldnt exist.

therefore everything they had, they got from us.

now this whole snowboards hate skiers, skiers hate snowboards thing is bullshit. i know when i see a good boarder i sit back, watch, and learn. and i think same thing happens when they watch me.

both sports have almost an endless ability to progress from their current states. but the only way there going to do this is if we keep learning and working together to perfect everything.

it might seem like snobarding is always going to be a year ahead of skiing, but you have to keep in mind just how new skiing is. alot of stuff pros are doing now is the first time that has ever been done on skis.

quiting something just because its not working out to your expectations just dosnt seem like a good way to go about something.

its evident to you that their is a lack of skill and knowledge in the sport. so why dont you take what you have learned and develop the sport in your own way, improve what you think needs improveing, do something new before snowboards do!

But for the most part, i don't really care how much sicker snowboarding is than skiing, because i can't do any really high level shit that really progresses the sport like pro skiers and snowboarders do. you can show the same thing over so many times before it gets repetetive and they run out of ideas, so far though snowboard movies have proved to be far more ingenuitive than ski movies, i mean look at msp, 1 2 and 3 were all basically the same, a couple segments, a heli trip to somewhere and shane doing some sky diving and then some snowmobiling, every movie.

ya skiing halfpipe has to come a long way, trick variation wise. If you look at the top skiing Global X run (asian guy) and the top boarder run (sean white) it isn't even comparable. The boarder run has like at least 10 tricks, while the skiing has like 5, which are mostly just airs.

 
we dont owe snowboarding nothing. we started jumping before thier shit was created. itd be only a matter of time before we eventually started doing the tricks that were doing now. snowboarding didnt event terrain parks, people invented terrain parks, and those people could have just as easily been skiers.

if you honestly think that you will be landing switch after a 120 foot booter then you will have to switch for now. its a shame, i know, but they've been arround alot longer and so, had alot more time to progress. we're still getting there but thats how things start and its a halfass reason to quit. if you dont like the movies go make your own, if you'd like skiers to advance the sport go progress it and if you dont like skiing quit it. thats just the way it is, live with it.

I think that instead of here and complaining about how we're not good enough for you, you should get out there and make us better. Just because the production of snowboard movies is different (not better) than skiing movies isn't a reason to quit skiing. The time will come, did Afterbang come after 6 seasons of pro snowboarding? Give it some damn time, and just buy Volume 9 and tell me that we aren't coming around quite nicely, pep lands huge BC stuff switch, he does a 180 over an 80 ft gap and jumps a large cliff to switch. I don't know about you but the fact that its harder to land switch in pow just makes it that much cooler, and hell going backwards down a fuckin huge mountain after gapping 80 ft is reallly fuckin sick, more sick than a snowboarder doing a 180 over the same gap. And you say ' many more body positions' this is just not true..you feet can't..can not move on a snowboard = not as many differing styles through shoulder length. There can be just as many if not more grabs on skis...you just aren't trying hard enough. Also, all the snowboarders I know have respect for skiers, and I have respect for them. So make it your desire and quit, we can progress with out you.

i normally wouldn't want to get involved in this type of debate, but i couldn't resist. After thinking about it a while, the most intelligent response I could think of was: shut the hell up and just go suck JP Walker's dick. No shit snowboarding's cool. No one's stopping you from switching. It's just a matter of preference. Yeah, you're never going to do a crooked frontside boardslide on skis. Big deal. Ski because you think it's fun. Are their movies really better? They have been doin it for a hell of a lot longer. Even so, I think Strike 3 was sick as hell, and way different from most ski movies before it. It's gettin there.

And as for landing switch on back country jumps? Well, even though it's harder to land switch on snowboards then regular, does it look that much different? On skis you're landing straight up backwards. On a snowboard when you land switch, it's just a little awkward, but looks pretty similar.

In summary, until snowboarders start throwing some actually difficult tricks like quad twisters or Dinner Rolls, skiing will be the more advanced sport.

 
and thats another thing! snowboardings gotten to where it is now in twenty years. if you look in terms of equality, freeskiing has gotten to the point we are now in only six years and we're at about the same level snowboarding was six years ago:

6 (years of existing freeskiing)=14 (years of snowboarding)

I feel proud that I have never, ever, ever seen a ski movie, or snowboard or skate. I don't understand why you would want to watch other people skiing. Though I do film me and my friends kicking it at the hill, then watch it to remmeber the good and bad times of the day, but ohh well. But I did see Tanner's segment off of high Society because some kid showed it to me at my school and I thought it was pretty sick but still, why watch someone else ski...?

Its one thing to land with your opposite or (switch foot) forward, but its something else entirely to take off completely backwards and land completely backwards...switch shit for boarding doesnt mean jack...sure people have natural and unnatural tendencies to put a foot forward but the fact of the matter remains that they are facing the landing....try not facing your landing and relying on skill and technique to land..

My opinion is that snowboarding and skiing both kind of owe eachother for how they have progressed. People shouldn't choose a sport based on who they can be linked to. So what if someone thinks JP Walker is cooler than Seth? If you're doing that, you're no better than those pro hoes on the hill you probably bitch about. Personally, I think snowboarding is pretty cool. All of my friends snowboard, and I'm always out with them and we don't even think of skiing and snowboarding as 2 different sports. We're all there for the same reason. Just stop bitchin', and realize that this arguement on a scale of 1 to 10 is at least violently queer.

 
i have a lot of respect for snowboarders. I ski with a few because they enjoy hitting the park more than most of the people i ski with. if i see a boarder goin huge i get stoked and its the same way when they see a skier go huge. who cares what the media portrays skiing and snowboarding as.

And about skiing being around cuz of snowboarding.......no. it acted as a catalyst to speed it up to where we are today. we were jumpin back in the day.
