Why do Republicans get such a bad rap?

I would just like to congratulate jumister5889 for creating this thread. You have thoroughly impressed me with your political and social knowledge . All you other kids should read his posts and be educated because he knows his shit.

according to the defenition im a fiscal conservative...Funny story though..Back during the last election i had these black girls arguing in my class over the issues(kinda)...they were debating over crip v. bllod so the blood girl took republican(red) the crip girl took democrats(blue)-ha thought i would mention that for laughs.

Ju you should pursue a career in Politics man. "Is our children learning" (George W. Bush)

Let me take a wild guess...you're a freshman poli sci major aren't you? Here's what would happen if I met you in real life:

You: Blah blah blah blah fucking blah.

Me: *rolls eyes and walks away*

I wouldn't even try to argue with you in real life, and definitely not on the internet. Seriously, why are you talking about this on NS? I get it, I think its adorable you're all into politics now. However, your rampant liberal-bashing makes you lose all credibility.

P.S. I'm also a poli sci major. People like you are why I hate showing up to class early; you spout off your inane bullshit to anyone who will tolerate you or better yet, reaffirm your beliefs, making sweeping generalizations and polarizing arguments without a care for anyone around you who might just be a little offended when you vehemently insult their beliefs. Do us all a favor and keep it to yourself.

P.P.S. For all your liberal-bashing, I've never met a lib who behaves like you do. Next time you run off a bunch of facts you compiled to show off your knowledge, remember this: NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK. On the outset, I'd say maybe if I ran into you on the street and hadn't read any of your shit, you could possibly change my mind. But there's no way I, nor anyone else, could change your mind whatsoever. And when you get down to it, no one is gonna read something some preppy asian freshman poli sci major wrote on a skiing website and fundamentally alter their attitude or beliefs.

thats because no one else is changing my mind back to the way it was like a year ago. I used to be a liberal its not like im some idiot who was born into a conservative family and is just a brainwashed conservative...

PS the fact that this thread is 3 pages long and numerous people liberal and conservative alike have both congratulated me or challenged me including several mods, disproves just about everything you "spouted out"

You guys are all bitching about how he is posting all of these facts and shit and even though I'm not conservative, this is what I would do all day (post on NS) if I got caught selling ID's and had absolutely NOTHING else to do. Give the man a break, sucks that guys like him get caught, but when they do you still gotta give them respect.

jst like you said democrats once were into slavery, "conservatives" were once everything you said...

names and roles have changed. what those names used to mean isn't what it's like anymore, its a changing definition. most people in general, much less those that call themselves "conservative" even know or care about pretty much ANYTHING you state in your original post.

I realize you might be trying to do good or whatever, but the only thing dumber about arguing about politics on NS is grouping people into categories and expecting people actually know or adhere to the beleifs that are generally associated with the categories that they are grouped into (by you or by them).

evolution is inevitable, the fossil record proves it. Over the history of the earth a few extinction level events have occured that have wiped all of the larger life forms off the face of the earth, the dinosaurs for example. Yet large species were able to return over the passage of time, because the smaller creatures that lived underground were able to survive and evolve.

Yes some republicans (and democrats actually) still deny it because they cling to some rediculous 2000 year old religion that says in some stupid book that god created man in his own image.

fucking idiots

im sorry, i still dont see how you proved evolution, and Global warming. to be 100% fact, i dont give a rats ass if you believe differently than me, but your belief's (thats what they are) are different than mine, and that is fine....

but you should really know your facts, and those are NOT FACTS!

Gonna have to agree, whilst evolution and global warming are very strong theories, they're not facts.

Science deals with theories, not facts, the more rigorously a theory is tested the stronger is it considered. I would say evolution is so strong a theory it shouldn't even be controversial any more, as for global warming the only debate is how much human inputs have affected the warming, because studies have repeatedly shown the earth is getting warmer.

Don't really know what this has to do with Republicans and Democrats though. Do Republicans not believe in Science!?

go read the first page, this guy started spouting that republicans dont believe in facts like global warming, and evolution..

"These are two things that have been scientifically proven."

do you see the failure in his logic? ^ ^ ^

Yes, that's why I said I agree with you about them not being facts.

Do Republicans not believe in them? I just assumed Bush doesn't do anything about global warming because it would make his rich friends in industry all pissy. Does he/they not believe in Evolution either?

Some questions you should answer- How has the dollar done in the last couple weeks? How was the 1st quarter economic growth? how does that impact your statement about going headfirst into recession? How would supporting ridiculously expensive government programs help the economy? Who employs people and benefits shareholders?

Here are the answers. Dollar is on the rise, Growth, although slow was growth for the second consecutive quarter, hence no recession, Government programs like health care will be a disaster for a huge economic sector (healthcare), and it is those evil corporations that employ millions across the country, pay dividends to shareholders and create wealth in this country.

basically, you're retarded.

This is probably going to sound stupid, but if your religious can't you not believe in dinosaurs? Because People were the start of the earth according to christianity (I'm sure most other religions too) And that there put here to test your "faith" or something like that?

no, it doesnt sound stupid, it sounds mis informed, but definitely not stupid... you are asking good questions in a respectful way. props on that.

while i can not speak for all Christians, i can speak for this one, i do believe in dinosaurs, and if you asked the average Christian they would say yes, they do believe in dinos...

I would just like to bring this thread back on topic and answer the question 'Why do Republicans get such a bad rap', my earlier theory was that most young people have endured eight years of Bush, which would make any sane person hate anything connected with him.

After watching an interview with her, I now have a new theory, Ann Coulter, she is the antichrist! Even Bill Oreilly, who is not exactly a leftie, thinks she goes a bit far. This woman is genuinely a psycho, and the fact that her books sell so well makes me slightly worried about going back to America.

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity"

"...It would be a much better country if women did not vote. That is

simply a fact. In fact, in every presidential election since 1950 -

except Goldwater in '64 - the Republican would have won, if only the

men had voted."

"we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say"

"I'm a Christian first and a mean-spirited, bigoted conservative second, and don't you ever forget it."

With someone like this being a prominent Republican, who wouldn't hate them?

I'm not a violent person, but I would love to kick this woman in the face. With ski boots on.

ok so using your logic can i hate every black pastor, because of what Rev Wright said? and he is pretty prominent, in the black community.

I don't think Rev Wright is really in the same league as Ann Coulter, though if you want to hate all black Pastors because of him, go ahead, I'm allowed to hate all bigoted, racist, ignorant idiots and you have your rights too.

I was just trying to explain why the Republican party has an image problem (the original premise of this thread), and I would say having figureheads like Coulter and Bush is a big part of that, aside from much of what they believe in being, imho, ridiculous.

and i was simply pointing out a flaw in your logic.

i dont hate black people, i dont hate ann coulter. i dont like her opinions but i value that she is free to speak her mind.

I still don't see the flaw though, a prominent Republican says ridiculous things, people are going to hate her and associate the entire Republican party with her. They see that millions of people have bought her book, assume they are all Republicans (because be serious, who else could actually read them) and dislike them for it.

I wouldn't doubt that Rev Wrights speeches have done the image of black churches damage as well.

So what is your personal take on why young people tend to hate Republicans? Is it just because we're naive and led by celebrities and a liberal media hegemony as Jumister seems to think?

oh man, wright is defiantly worse than coulter. ann coulter is in it for and entertainment factor. everything she says and does is purposefully over the top. i doubt that she even believes half the stuff she says. her M.O. is to get a rise out of people, which she obviously does very well.

I wasn't comparing their views, but their level of media exposure. How many people had heard of Rev Wright before a few months ago?

i think you are both forgetting a very important point though. WRIGHT ISNT THE ONE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT! obama and wright are two separate people...

here is why i see a failure in your logic...... you made a sweeping generalization about republicans, that is wrong, coulter is an extremist.

so i made a sweeping generalization about black pastors, my sweeping generalization was wrong, Wright is an extremist.

dont judge the whole barrel of apples by one rotten apple on the top.

Where did I make a sweeping generalisation? I don't believe I actually said anything about Republicans as whole, I just said why people might hate them (which is the point of this thread, not squabbling about semantics).

As for the apple analogy, if that rotten apple wrote loads of books and was one of the most popular apples I might think all the other were rotten as well.

you can't take those statements out of context, and each one is EXTREMELY sarcastic. anyone who isn't smart enough to catch that sarcasm isn't worth arguing with.

Really, and where exactly is this 'sweeping generalisation' you speak of? As I just said, I was merely suggesting why people might dislike the Republican party, I really can't see any generalisation there?

It's not like I'm saying 'Ann Coulter is a cunt so all the other Republicans are cunts' more like 'Ann Coulter is such a big cunt that she makes all the other Republicans look like cunts (which they may or not be, but probably are)'.

Wright is just another black man in America...Most black people believe what Wright says...after years of slavery and constant racism going on, I really don't blame black people for being this angry. When a whole race of people are limited to what they can go out and achieve, it's kinda fucked. Getting out of the hood is not an easy thing. Honestly. There's so much shit that distracts one who lives in the hood...gang shit, no fathers, drugs all around, drug dealing, and a whole lot of people who got caught up in this kinda shit that set an example for these kids trying to get out of the hood. And you are telling me that blacks are supposed to be ok with that? no no no. no fucking way. And on top of that black people are supposed to deal with people who are afraid of them all the time every day and be content with that? ok yeah...that'll happen. The stuff Rev Wright says may be extremely blatant, but he is correct. This is not new stuff either. Malcolm X spoke exactly like this too so if you think this is a new issue you've got another thing coming, in fact, Wright took X's line, "The chickens have come to roost."

Don't look at Wright as an idiot, he is not, and he presents some valid points. In an offensive manner to one who does not see what goes on in black communities every day? Yes. But he makes great statements and if we wanna conquer racism, we have to understand the experience of others. This is the Black experience.

so.... the gov created aids and infected the black population? hes out there dude. also, from what i understand rev wright has made it out of the hood just fine... so hes not just nuts, but a hypocritical nut.

aside from that, if people continue to dwell on injustices done to their ancestors and thereby assume that they cant achieve as a result of it, then of course theres not going to be a whole lot of achievement. what irritates me is when someone like rev wright denigrates people like condi rice, colin powell and justcie thomas because they have managed to succeed through conventional channels. so annoying.

first of all what the fuck did the aids thing have to do with anything. mebbe i missed something idk. and second of all yay thats awesome wright made it out of the hood. how bout the thousands that cant make it out thanks to the way things are set up today. black people are still getting fucked over daily, its just not quite as obvious as slavery.

so hes not 100% on point. but he has some legit thoughts. and my point is that wright is not representing the dem party. hes obamas pastor, he couldnt have known when he started out that obama would run for pres. meanwhile whats her face is representing the republican party spouting her insane shit. i realize shes not what every republican is, but when you have people like her and bush in the spotlight its not surprising people arent feeling republicans lately.

ahahahahaha coulter HATES THE Republicans, when i say hate, i mean really really HATE!

i have watched her say she would vote for hillary over mccain,

I wasn't talking about just rev wright, I was talking about the black population as a whole. Also, look at how many whites are in political power right now, compared to blacks, then tell me it's easier to make it out of the hood than the way I described it. It's not impossible, but it takes a far more than normal mind to achieve it. Go to East Oakland, CA every day for 2 years and then talk to me. The reason he talks about Condi Rice and Colin Powell in such a way is because they do not represent the black community very well, the completely conform to being white and that's ok im not saying that's wrong that was their decision. He supports Barack, however, becuase he identifies what is going on every day in the black community. Ever read Obama's The Audacity of Hope? I suggest you do, it's a great book and more people need to read it to try to understand this stuff. I will never ever know what it's like to be black, but I do know that I will notice that, and will try my hardest to.

Im not going to say that it is not hard for black people to get out of the hood, but i will say its not impossible. I will also say there is racism in this country, everybody can see this (and its not just the blacks either people). They bring it on themselves. if they really wanted to leave the hood they can, save up some money, be motivated to get out and you can accomplish that task.

Now, to say that "a whole race of people are limited to what they can go out and achieve" is not accurate. You are putting down the whole black race here by putting them into the "hood category." There are several successful black people in this country, people, one is running for presidency so don't give me the whole, they are restricted argument.

IMO you clumped people into groups by saying

"With someone like this being a prominent Republican, who wouldn't hate them?"

if i am reading this right, it would seem like you think that all republicans agree with this "prominent leader"

PS coulter doesnt like the Republicans, so i dont see how she can be their leader.

you don't have to say, "I am representing the black community" to be a representative of the black population.

any influential figure, intelligent or not, is representing their race, religion, and sex. you become responsible for what you say and stand for when you're in the public eye. celebrities have to deal with the same issue. you don't have to proclaim that you represent a community, it's inevitable.
