Why do Republicans get such a bad rap?

An old black man subbed my class the other day and was telling me and the dozen and a half black kids in there about how every human being has the grey matter and opportunity to make something of themself. The guy was a college football coach and had coached 22 pro football players in his career.

The government holds blacks to a lower standard than whites through affirmative action. To me this is way fucked up because even black people who came from rich families can take advantage of it. I think that affirmative action in universities should be based on your situation growing up. Kids who grew up with one parent in the projects and made decent grades might deserve something but it is BS to hold a black kid who grew up priveledged(SP) to a lower standard than a white kid who grew up with a single mother in an apartment while his mother often didn't get home til late at night.

It's also much easier for a Black person who didn't come from the hood to be successful. For example, Barack Obama didn't come from the hood, there aint no hood in Hawaii...YET, he still understands what kids in the hood go through every day because he worked in those kind of environments when he was younger. Also Black people who have immigrated here from Africa or other countries do not start out in the hood from birth like black kids from America do. The people who immigrate do not experience the hood right from birth. So you yes, you are correct, about me addressing the entire race, but what I'm really talking about are the black kids that come from black-american households. They experience that shit daily from the second they are brought home from the hospital. Yes there are successful black people that make it out of ghettos. Compare that number to the amount of successful white people in this country. This is what I'm talking about.
 
i also agree, its (and its O.K. you can say it) BULL SHIT that this happens in this country but the sad thing is that it is reality.
 
Sorry for the triple post, but also, don't try to narrow down the black race to a few successful people. It's kinda obvious if you just drive down to an innercity environment, that black people are being held back. Yeah a few people make it out and become successful, but it's obvious that the hood holds black kids back from opportunities to be successful. It's not about numbers, it's what goes on out there daily. Get out of the suburbs for once and experience it for yourself. Yeah I live in an overly sheltered community now, but I didn't used to. I used to live right next to East Oakland which was 2 minutes drive from my house, and I went to school in East side for 2 years.

I agree with that. And schools are actually getting rid of affirmative action now so it's not that bad. But it also allows black people to see new standards that they have to hold themselves to in order to become successful. Also, Guys are getting into schools way easier than girls with better grades nowadays, because they don't want their campuses to be 80% girls and 20% guys. Could be the same situation as you described with with a girl trying to get into a school, but a guy gets in instead because he will create better gender diversity on campus.
 
Women may just naturally be more work oriented. If they are the ones that are going to dominate then so be it they had the same opportunity as men and they just took advantage of it.. My mom works in the beer industry(a male dominated industry) and she has had to work 2x as hard to get half as far. I think that the government, schools, and jobs should not put us into groups based on our gender, age, and sex. Grouping and labeling just leads to more hate for one another.

Yep I have a fridge full of grolsch and bud stuff in my garage, but my mom is way against underage drinking aka me drinking.

It is the republican liberty caucus and it is the libertarian wing of the republican party. They are pro choice on most everything. Most of them are anti- iraq war.

The answer is simple; its the media. The media used to report unbiased news (for the most part). The reporters would present the happenings of the world as they were. If a guest speaker came on they would say that his views are going to be biased. Now a day, the media makes up the news. They have learned that bad news sells better. In battle for ratings they end up making up the news, usually reporting the bad side of things. Instead of supporting the government they critize it, george bush, the republican party, the war in Iraq. The news reporters on TV constantly give their own personal opinions while they report the news. People mistake the real news for this bullshit they put on the TV and in newspapers.

Honestly, it just makes me sick to see 90% of my high school in new jersey walking around saying fuck bush, fuck the government, fuck the republican party, the economy is in a recession, the war in iraq is for oil, 911 was an inside job, etc. Seriously, these morons listen to whatever they hear on the news. They have no back up to these ideas other than whats in the media.

Whats worse is that the teachers in my school (who are suppose to be the educated ones) just feed these kids bullshit about how bad bush is, how the republicans are destroying the environment, etc. And then kids think anti-republican even more becuase now its their teachers, the news, and usually parents are reinforcing it.

Anyway thats how I feel about that.

Wow dude,, dont put statistics up if you have no idea what your talking about.. i seriously doubt that 90% of the people at your school think that 911 was in inside job.. that is the kind of thing a heavy right wing person would say
 
They've been saying that since 2003. If you say the word enough then eventutally we will become so depressed that we will go into a recession.
 
right after you look at the african representation in political power, look at what percentage of the american population is comprised of blacks. I think its like 2% i dont know that they will be reflective of each other, but the idea that there should be a 50/50 racial split in leadership is ridiculous. in theory, it should be representative of the population of the nation.

Also, you dont need to lecture me on oakland. I go to school in the oak park section of sacramento every day, have spent time in downey ca, and of course have been around the bay area a ton. the whole idea that there needs to be a 'black community' or a white community, asian community, whatever community is also rediculous. there should be an american community, canadian community, or whatever. as long as people cling (not to guns and religion) their ethnic and cultural differences as a means to separate themselves from others, there will be this problem.

I was just making the point that black people aren't blessed with the same chances to succeed as white people are...yes there are certain situations where it is different, don't give me this "specific situation" bullshit because I'm talking general here.

If there was just an "American" community, then we wouldn't have the diversity that we have today. Why would black people want to be part of an "American" community that enslaved them?

If we all left our ethnic and cultural differences, there would be no diversity. Honestly, imagine a world without people with different ethnicities. I think that differences are beautiful and we must embrace them. If we didn't have diversity our world would be pretty boring. Your ethnicity is a part of who you are, and because of this, nobody will ever drop their ethnic background.

Do you honestly think in a realistic world people would disregard their ethnic background? Honestly? I mean are you serious? That's like saying that people will openly give into communism so that every single person would have an equal chance. Fuck that. I'm not saying we should give people who are black an easier time just because they are black, I'm saying that we should get rid of detrimental atmospheres like the ghetto, and give black people the same chance to find out how they want to live their lives rather than be pressured into gang atmospheres, single parent homes, drugs, and all that stuff the world would be way better off without.
 
of course people cant give up their cultural background. it was a hypothetical. also, though i love jazz music and mexican food, it is the notion that diversity is some divine trait that leads to these kinds of tensions. would it be nice if everyone was tolerant of everyone elses differences? sure, but i think we both know that wont happen. you have to except that as long as people put their culture in front of their community at large, there will be these divides. as long as the black community looks down on successfull blacks because they got out of the ghetto through the same path that successful white people do, there will be a perpetuation of the ills brought on by the nature of, if not 'black culture' then 'hiphop culture' (by this i mean the images that are pushed by mtv and hollywood, so dont start telling me about how positive mos def is, cause his corner of hiphop is tiny in comparison) so while those ill may in the end be pushed by white execs who run viacom, the young black demographic eats it up! until they abandon cash money and hoes as life priorities, there will be no change in the fate of the black community.

again, my main gripe is when people like rev wright denigrate successful blacks who are all of a sudden not black enough. its absurd.
 
mabye blacks would want to be part of the american community that "enslaved" thm because we give them protection, freedom, and welfare???

Fuck your generalizations. We succesful Americans don't need to give our money to people who decided to do drugs, join a gang, have children, etc. It's their fault they're poor. And if not it's their bad luck. The ones that are lucky/smart/hardworking are able to get out of the ghetto. And theres plenty of rich people who become poor. It's bullshit to take money from one and give it to someone because they are black and poor.
 
so because im not up to date with your posts i dont understand the situation in our nation? Everyone has thier own opinion, and i think they need to suck it up. You dont. But dont make sarcastic posts about how im ignorant for thinking that.
 
neither of these are proven fact, they are both theories. one of them (global warming) has many holes in it such as the fact that average global temperature hasnt increases at all in the last decade. although i do think evolution is probably true or at least partially true.
 
good facts there....definitely gives a flavor of what both sides stand for...i place myself in the conservative side of politics....my reasoning for being conservative is that here in wisco people who are on welfare can make more monthly than people who get a job and make minimum wage...and depending on how many children you have also effects how much money you receive from the govt....so there is no incentive for people to work....thats why im conservative, and hey i dont like giving 40% of what i make to the government
 
o god dude, when you name a thread like this, you are bound to get so much shit because there are tons of kids on here who hate conservatives when they have no fucking clue what it stands for. Just because bush is a republican, everyone assigns their hatred to other republicans and just fall back in line with the rest of the liberal sheep in this country.
