In school the other day I got into an argument ocer Snowboarding vs. skiing. The people that I was arguing with said snowboarding was way cooler and that skiing was lame and for 'Preppy' kids. The thing is that the people I was arguing with half of them were dirtbags who don't do either and the other half snowboards and they suck.Why the hell do people think skiing is lame?

Neither or the sports would be where they are today without eachother. It's only the whiny 14 year old bithces that suck that bash the others. Once you get to a certian level you realize that both sports are kick-ass. You just happen to be better at skiing so you do it. Cause seriously, you like it more because your better at is.

I love how this topic always arises because someone was worried about what other people think. Snowboarding is sick. They are innovative, and it is easy to be good at. On the other hand, skiing is dope as well. It is all preference. Oh, and the reason people think skiing sucks is because they generalize what they see. In GENERAL, yeah, skiing is a rich-kids sport over run by people who wear $500 jackets twice a year and rent condos wherever they want. But, that is what keeps the industry going.

The moral of the story I think is, don't return comments in a stupid debate, but keep your mouth shut and give a snowboarder props when you see him through a smooth five rather than building more hate between skiers and boarders

i think if less peopl;e ski it will be a more core sport. i mean look at snowboarding. everyone does it. i dont want skiing to ever get as big as boarding if there are less people but are more commited we will progress so much more

man the reason people think skiing is lame is because of the image that media portays it to be. snowboarding gets alot more coverage and people see them busting out crazy shit wheras us on the other hand we may get some coverage once a year at like 10 at night and no1 watches. Dont bash on snowboarders either i showed my friends last night forward and my friend was like wow, i have so much more respect for skiers now.

It's funny, you'll discover that anyone who is any good at snowboarding has a mutual respect for skiers, and vice versa. Look, the only ones out there trash-talking skiers are the kids who snowboard because it's cool. It's all image for them; and the general perception of skiing goes against that image. So naturally, they are going to trash-talk, because trash-talking skiers is the cool thing to do.

The same exact thing happens over and over again in all different areas. Some 13 year old kid will deck out in fubu and chains. He'll listen to nelly/ja-rule/jay-z because that's cool. If you tell him you listen to nofx or offspring he will try starting a fight with you. Why? He doesn't know. There are some damn good punk, alternative, or rock band out there. but he's going to trashtalk because he's bought into that image rap gangsta image.

maybe if we stoped arguing with snowboarders about what is better and instead show them up on the hill then maybe you could make the other boarders shut up...but if you fail well then thats a different story.

Ghostdragon is right. All the good snowboarders at my school respect skiing, and I ride with them all the time, and the sucky ones make fun of me all the time, and when I ask them if they want to go settle it on the hill, they tell me they don't want to go. It's all about their own insecurity.

I think it was Linncoln Loop Wannabe you said 'keep your mouth shut'. Best thing anyone has said. Stop spreading the hate. I have to say it is really annoying, but if you try to be reasonable and not tell them to fuck off, you may find out they just misunderstand the sport, or if they're just big assholes, just leave it be, they may never change.

I think most people think skiing is lame because not only does skiing get VERY little media coverage in respect to snowboarding but at least 90% of that coverage consists of footage from 10+ years ago of people skiing in colourful one piece suits trying to do as many turns as they can. Most of the time when skiing is portrayed in commercials or just random clips on tv or whatever no effort whatsoever is made to obtain recent footage that shows what skiing has become. The vast majority of people never see what we're doing now so when they think of skiing they assume it's still very much the same as it was 10 or 20 years ago.

if your just cool with everybody on the mountain and dont give anybody the slightest bit of an attitude then youve really got nothing to worry about. if somebody wants to start shit with you then ignore it because most likely they suck balls. that way when their ball sucking shines through when they case the 10 footer then you can bask in all your glory, but still keep it to yourself ya know. mutual respect for all those who slide snow, no matter how they do it.

People think skiing is lame because of all the gay events we have........racing in skin tight suits with Giant poles/fucking huge skinny ass skis........ski jumping in tight suits again......mogals with the twister daffy 'look how gay i can jump'........dont get me started on cross country, slalom, skiing Ballet.......if you ask me its all the olimpics faut giveing a ridiculaus amount of coverage of the worst parts of skiing

Ghostdragon definetly got it right. Just about anyone snowboarder that is decent will give respect to a skier if theyre decent. That skier vs snowboarder shit died a long time ago in the park. On the rest of the mountain thats another story cause a lot of the old head skiers still hate snowboarders. Theyre old though so what they think doesn't really matter anyway.

Ok, I have been reading the whole post, and I have come up with a new conclusion. People do not like skiing, because skiing is old. Plain and simple. People believe that skiing today is the same as skiing 20 years ago. People who are not Ski-enthusists, probably don't see how much this sport is progressing now-a-days. Snowboarding is now the 'cool' thing to do, just because its not as old as skiing. If you don't agree with me, think of this scenario. About 20 years ago, when Rollerblades were the top selling sports item on the market, it was the cool thing to do. Now, about 5 years after that, people began to buy skateboards. Now you look at today's people, how many rollerblade? It's all about people trying to fit in and act cool and stay with the ever changing world. Also, I do not believe we should rag on the boarders, or the skaters, because I think they are a pretty cool sport also. The one sport that I do enjoy ragging on is SNowblading, im soory but that qualifies as a piece of shit sport in my book, if you disagree, let me know.

snowlerblading is pretty pathetic. its even worse when adults ride them. i rode the lift with this 40 year old guy with skin tight(i mean SKIN TIGHT) black pants with neon designs all over them. with a purple coat that had a fur lining and a helmet with this pink guard thingy, he looked so strange. and to top it off he was riding snowlerblades. he couldve easily qualified for Powder's keepin it real files.

Line skier, people stopped inlining and strated skating because they realized inlining is gay. the actual sport of 'aggressive' inlining showed up after skating.

I think the reason people hate on skiing is because it is harder to make skiing look cool than it is for snowboarders. Just because a skier can do a backflip in the park doesn't maen that the back flip looks cool at all, whereas chances are a snowboard able to backflip in the park can 99% of the time make it look sick.
