Why do people cut themselves?

like is it something that theyre like oh im depressed so im supposed to be cutting my wrist? like i dont understand what the fuck theyre thinking, life is pretty damn cool shit so i guess what is the "medicinal" purpose of cutting?
 
attention. unless they actual kill themselves, a lot of the time they kinda want people to see the scars so they'll get some more attention and sympathy.
 
because they are depressed. people that actually have psychological disorders who dont cut themselves for attention (as stated above) do it because they feel like it is an outlet for their frustrations and depression/hopelessness.

its hard to understand unless youve been through it or someone else close to you has been through it.
 
Either that or they hope someone will see them and offer them help because they don't wanna seem weak and ask for it...I dunno never done it never will
 
it's much more complicated than just why or why not, a lot of things are weird and it depends on the person to know what drives them. a lot of time it's depression, it's a way of rebelling and fitting into a social scene, also some say it feels good to be bleeding profusely, kind of a lightheaded feeling that's a certain type of rush to some. also maybe a slight adrenaline surge, the feeling of holding your life in your hands, if you don't cover up your cut you could die. but mainly i think it's just something that's fit in socially, kind of like a way less used and extreme version of drugs, it's a nasty concept but some people find good things from it and get hooked and then fall into social pressure. it's so strange to me and i think the only way to really know what motivates someone to do that is to hear first hand. so yes, it is a stupid question in the sense that you won't get a clear answer unless you confront a cutter but it's a valid point and fucking weird that people do that. so there's my long winded answer/rant of the week

There was a girl in my health class, and she used to cut she told the class about it and shit and it was basically depression driven.
 
if they want scars why dont they write some sick shit in scar like thug life on your arm would be sooo hood

It is actually a biochemical thing.

When cut, an instant rush of endorphines and other hormones are released into the bloodstream basically giving you a buzzy high.

It's stupid, but that's what makes people do it. It's a release.

You're nutz the first time your try it, but just hooked anytime after that.
 
ive heard for adrenailine reasons. when you cut yourself or something like that your body releases endorphins that give you a good feeling, even though your bleeding.
 
i have heard that ppl cut them selves

to basically mask emotional pain with physical pain...

think of ot this way, life sucks, so you evoke physical pain so you focus on that instead of how shitty life is
 
pretty ignorant. people have mental disorders that fuck with their brains. you should do some research on it instead of asking a ski website.
