Why can't we edit posts on NS?

Just out of curiosity why can't we edit our posts on newschoolers? I try to proofread my stuff before posting, but every now and than I miss something and it'd be nice to go back and fix it. As long as there is an asterix or says it's been edited, I don't see why not...

Not a big deal, just wondering. Sorry if this has been asked and answered - putting "edit" in the search bar only brings up pages upon pages of ski edit posts...

That and a lot of the time the mistakes make posts even better. If I fuck something up bad enough, I just have a mod delete the post, but that has happened maybe twice since I've been on NS.
