Why can't skateboard movies be filmed like this?

basically i love 16mm. like yeah hd has is cool moments but i love the look of real film soooo much better. i dont know whether anyone ever saw it but the skate movie Hallowed Ground had some really cool shots
 
uhhhhh what the fuck are you talking about tankaskier? plenty of skateboard films are filmed like this.
 
skateboarding movies arent filmed like that because skateboardings story isnt the same, its almost always been at least a little in the limelight...

if you dont like skate vids i have three classics to suggest in order to open up your opinion...

I've seen all those you mentioned except for the Transworld one...I hear they make sick vids and I need to see them.

and I shred myself too! I've been skateboarding since I was 7 years old. I used to like average skate filming until I started getting into filming myself and realized how uncreative and unskilled it is for the most part. Of course there are excepttions, Im not denying that, but I mean typical skate movies as a whole.

This video is definately sick and shows how much crap they've had to endure to get to where they are now. There is a lot to say about the maturity level of these guys. Props to them for taking inline skating to another level. Very creative and well done
 
those other videos were sick. but while sorry and really sorry were absolutely gnarly, they really didnt have any crazy fiming, it was all pretty typical i thought

I think it's beacuse rollerbladers always feel they have to justify their sport. It's not nearly as accepted as say, skateboarding, so the serious audio bits are thrown in a lot. Sick none the less.
 
That didn't change my mind about fruitbooting at all. It looks clown to me and I've seen plenty of skateboarding videos with more creativity and equal cinetography & editing than that. I like how they admit that rollerblading has died out though
 
Why is everyone defending skate filming like its their little sister? seriously its not bagging on skating its talking about their videos. That vid was insane, so well done, and the commentary was perfect. And one who bags on that like that guy at the start, is just to cool for school. Those tricks they do are off the hook, like crazier then any sport, and they get no recognition because of kids like that. They do bigger urban 180s to flat concrete then skiiers do urban, and most snow boarders. They do teck slides on rails and chains skiers and snowboarders won't touch. Now watch, someone is gunna slide a chain this year and their skiis and its gunna be like SO PROGRESSIVE, yet the bladers did it first. Or wallridings a tree then hitting a rail? Thats filming and skill was absurd.
 
name some cause i am real interested in which ones you think even compare to that trailer or any snowboard or ski film
 
Word to that. I think mountain biking and snowboarding currently have the best filming going on. In biking, the collective and roam, even the newer NWD series are made so creatively. With cable cams and stuff, its just amazing. Snowboarding also has some of this going on. Apples and oranges and the Picture this trailer both have amazing filming methods.
 
Whenever I'm being interviewed I try to sound as dumb and juvenile as possible.

BTW it wasn't an oldtimer asking the questions and that's a poor example. I can't think of a "fancy" way to say "So I can ski backwards".

Basically you guys are ripping on efficiency. "Big" words take the place of several smaller words put together. When your cutting down a video you don't need some numb-nut spending three minutes to say what could be said in one. The same goes for everywhere else in life. Nobody gets extra points for sounding like a retard, unless your livin on the streets I guess.

Unless you plan on rocking out to a manual labor job for the rest of your life you should be able to spit out sentences that rival and surpass the aforementioned.

ok im the last person to use words liek that, trust em i have a huge vocabulary and i realize that ppl use big words i do too. but the way the guy says it in the movie just sounds soooooo scripted its rediculous
 
The WAY he said it, sure it seemed scripted. What he said, on the other hand, isn't beyond the realm of normal speech for an adult.

congrats you two, you have a vocabulary better than a fifth grader...no one cares. i agree with p3t3r on this one that the way the guys are interviewed in such a serious scripted manner portrays the sport of rollerblading as some huge life or death deal where everything must be taken seriously so the sport can gain more recognition... now since when has skateboarding or rollorblading or even skiing for that matter been serious whatsoever? ever heard of FUN?
 
filming is one of the most underestimated and overlooked parts of "X-treme" movies.

this film + others have started to change that.
 
Those motion graphics were sick and very well done, but overall I really don't think that was all that different from other videos at all. Everything in there has been done before. Not that creative. But damn, that film and HD combo looked fucking good.
