Why canada sounds so awsome

Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has

the following statistics:

- 29 have been accused of spousal abuse

- 7 have been arrested for fraud

- 19 have been accused of writing bad checks

- 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses

- 3 have done time for assault

- 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit

- 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges

- 8 have been arrested for shoplifting

- 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits

- 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

Can you guess which organization this is?

Give up yet?

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group of idiots that crank

out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line

canada's most hardcore political wrongdoings were either the pacific scandal like 100 years ago (which benefitted the country) or B.C. 'leader' being arrested for drunk driving in hawaii, or that indian guy right now that everyone's poppin' off at.

Wow, there are way to many simplistic generalizations in this thread. Not to mention a boatload of ignorant comments. I only see about 3 people on the ball here.

actually no he is def. a pussy man....we are supposed to be a neighbour to america and as a neighbour we look out for each other...what are we going to do now if we get attacked and need to fight back? we cant do shit becasue we have a very small army conpared to the power of america...also america is the largest export/import staple for us canadians so that means by fucking up our relationship, our economy goes to shit....so no...i am def. not the pussy here and i think you should think about what you say before you say it retard that way you dont look so dumb.

To be honest, neither county would boycott or go as far as war over a simple disagreement in policies. If there is a major (and I do mean major) shift in government however, then I could see something drastic in the cards. Though that’s extremely unlikely with the current situation.

Well.. look at the title of the thread and see what a huge mistake not going to war was. Our pm's not stupid, he saw what would happen by directly supporting it. Britain supported it, look at public opinion for tony blair there.. he's being toted as Bush's puppy now - initally that wasn't so.

You also describe failing US relations based on this decision.. to me, the decision to not follow into an unjust war (that they're still fighting) knowing full well what might happen to US relations was a very ballsy move.. not a pussy one.

What, you don't agree that staring down the throat of a economic and military superpower who is looking for military support for his own agenda of an illegal war and saying "Sorry, can't help you." wouldn't take a lot of balls?

badfish2...no im not saying that it wouldnt take alot of balls....i dont think it would take much however....and also i would of thought of the economic downfall that would occur if and when the prime minister made th decision to NOT take part in the war...i personally see why he did it but i still think that he should of thought of canada as a whole and not his personal thoughts...between canada and america it is sort of like "you scratch my back, i scratch yours" type deal....he should of helped in the search for sedam and bin laden, then got canada out when it got all about the oil...that way he does have a part in the war but not the part where we america shouldnt of been there in the first place.

I'm not sure the US had a hard time finding sAdam. Every country that joined the US in the war against Iraq did so for the economic benefits tehy would recieve by doing so. Canada would have been the stupidest country in the world if they joined the war against Iraq and then left once all the oil rights and what not were being distributed. Canada did participate in the war against terror in afghanistan. We lost 5 soldiers to the US who dropped a bomb on one of our training excercises...

Two things Badfish:

1) The fact that a war is now branded with the title illegal is idiocy within itself. Throughout history, leaders have played political chess with the blood of their own people, from the Stone Age to the Modern Age. Millions if not billions of people have died in wars, many buildings and crops destroyed, and countless resources used exclusively to oil the war machine. Its only now illegal? Give me a fucking break. Claims like that are simply endless rhetoric and loophole exploitation. “Guidelines as opposed to rules.

2) Don’t even get started on the UN. What anyone in the UN says is mostly irrelevant anyway. What was the last useful thing the UN did? All they seem to do to anybody is shake their finger and say “Shame on you. They seem to just create more friction instead of actually getting anything accomplished. The UN has no real power. More “guidelines as opposed to rules. It’s a just a forum and nothing else.

The UN is the NS for politicians.

Yah, maybe made a little more sense than saying flat out NO... but, you have to think of what our 'military' usually does.. peacekeeping/cleanup.. (long list of efforts.. but Afghanistan and the search for Bin Laden is a recent example). our gov't wants to look like the nice guy in the world scene i suppose - and I for one (obviously..) am very proud at the way the situation panned out - cause it looked like it may have been a bad idea, granted. But, our gov't stood up for what the vast majority of canadians think is an unjust war.

Since 1945, the United Nations has been credited with negotiating 172 peaceful settlements that have ended regional conflicts.

By imposing measures ranging from an arms embargo to a convention against segregated sporting events, the United Nations was a major factor in bringing about the downfall of the apartheid system in South Africa, which the General Assembly called "a crime against humanity." Elections were held in April 1994 in which all South Africans were allowed to participate on an equal basis, followed by the establishment of a majority government.

The UN is not totally effective because of countries like the US. The US only follows UN guidelines when it suits there needs. They have that point stated in their foreign policy. Since each and every country is, for the most part, looking out for their own good, and not the good of the world and it's people, the UN will never be as effective an organization as it could be. Read "Shake hands with the Devil" by Romeo Dallaire and then come back and tell me that the UN is at fault in itself and is not ineffective due to the ignorance and indifference of the major countries that are members of it.

That is true to some extent, but the UN can be ignored just as easily as it can be acknowledged. Warring parties don’t settle conflicts unless THEY want to, or if they are forced to. The UN, however, doesn’t force people to do anything. Large-scale conflicts are commonly solved only when powerful nations (US, Great Brittan, or China for example.) become involved. Many of those conflicts where solved by action in a congress or parliament, rather than the UN floor. It’s a shaky system.

of course both sides need to agree. The UN has acted as a mediator during negotiations. Have you ever been in a fight with a friend and then another friend helps you make up? They can put things into a better perspective, provide an outside view, and encourage. Having a mediator during negotiations is a very valuable position that the UN has evidently done a fair job filling.

I think that less blame should be put on the UN, but countries who keep black balling it, US being the principle player in that respect.
