We appreciate that many of you have made travel plans to be at Baker for the holiday weekend and that many of you regulars are very excited about all the new snow.

However, this storm cycle has been extremely unusual. We have received approximately 112 inches of total snowfall in a very short amount of time--with most of this amount of snow falling on Friday at a warm 33 degrees. This is more snow in such a short time than has been measured in our recorded history at Mt. Baker. Also, the cooling trend that was expected to happen Friday and yesterday to help stabilize the snow pack in the ski area has just started to happen in the past few hours.

Therefore, we are going to wait to reopen the ski area until after the forecasted rain event of Monday and Monday night comes in. On Monday, the freezing level is expected to rise to 5500 to 6000 feet with precipitation, which we are now waiting for as we expect this will help stabilize the snow pack.

This means that the SKI AREA WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL WEDNESDAY JANUARY 18th at which time we hope to reopen in normal midweek operation at 9:00 am.

Once again, unfortunately, we will remain closed today through Tuesday and will reopen Wednesday.

the wind here on the EC is fucking crazy right now, it sucks so bad. I can only imagine how cold, windy, and icy it is on the mtn right now
 
my parents made me come home from nh to 'study' for exams next week...aaand it rained yesterday and itf freaking cold out so I have a feeling Im not missing too much

my dad is out of town, and my mom doesnt like skiing enough to drive me an hour and a half to the nearest mountain
 
too cold here. was -30 this morning. usually id go but no one else was going and im definetly not gonna go alone
 
man you probably have a huge mountain if it gets that cold out, stop complaining about the weather i would pay to go skiing on a big ,mountain even in -30 weather
