Why are the rails at Keystone and Breck SO STICKY??

Is it just me or are all the features super sticky? Coming from bear mountain the rails were always so slick, why cant KEYSTONE PUT SOME WAX ON THEIR DAMN RAILS

if the rail is sticky then next time around jus bring some wax and do it your self, or hike back up or next time thru see test it out.

Ski bowl has been slacking lately... Maybe its because the rails didn't get used last season. Meadows has been pretty shitty too. No issues at Timberline though.

Same with Mt. Hood Meadows and Ski Bowl, they need to learn what wax is.

I almost did a tomahawk once bc of this. I might talk to one of them next time I'm up there or bring my own BSD wax and better up all the rails.

I haven't been to Ski Bowl in a while so I'm not sure if they have gotten any better. As for Meadows, most of the rails in forest park are fine, but the down part on the dfd and the end of the down shotgun in shipyard needs a nice lube up.

Resorts do not wax rails. Most of the time a sticky rail is because of environmental factors that can't be controlled like humidity and temperature. The most they might do is give it a quick spray down with PAM or some other type of cooking spray.

Some of the rails at ski bowl are fine but there are some that need some wax. Also fireweed rails are so sticky too

If you see someone on park crew, let them know. Odds are they are unaware so just let them know. From my experience, they want to give you guys a fun park so if something isn't right they will do what they can to make it better!

Warmer temps bring sticky rails. Could be the environmental situation. From where IM from whenever it get real warm after its been fairly cold it gets real sticky

Just a thought - Bear mountain temps average 50 degrees throughout the entire season. No sticky rails here.

Btw for anyone thinking of making the trek to so cal, bear mtn is SO much fun right now

I believe it's because Vail Resorts is too cheap to use goat semen like most resorts use and instead they opted for the less expensive gaper semen.

Go to Copper instead. Rails slide smooth and no crowds. The park set up is insane right now too!

Wait wait wait, have you been riding Copper? Hit me up sometime! Too easy to get trapped with gapers on the lift over here

Idk, I usually give the rails at my mountain a wax every time I wax my skis. I found this company called Mr Zogs. Their wax works really well on the rails and my skis. I would highly recommend.

Rails do get sticky because of environmental factors, 100% true, but when the rails at copper get sticky, park crew has blow torches and some form of wax that they use on features to grease them up.

Maybe someone can back that up for me, but its quite the scene when they are waxing different rails. We used to use rub on wax for many of our rails at my home hill too. MANY park crews will do this.

Same, I literally have nearly eaten shit at both Keystone and Hood Meadows on rails in the past month.

I originally thoguht it was probbly the weather, but maybe wax

^ This. Like snow is is often because of temperatures. You might try waxing your skis! Deburr you edges too! Your skis may be railed.

Yo I'm heading to Copper in two weeks! I've heard such sick things about Woodward Copper right now. Let's all get some laps in!

Hell yeah it was so good to be home! The rails at bear are too fun, honestly love the set up of CO resorts but the rails are just too damn sticky to do anyyyything

I've honestly never really heard of this.

If you clean your rails properly in the off season you can get rid of a lot of stickyness. Just wire brushing, then flap discing them smoother. Some places don't paint the rails after that and leave them bare metal.

Idk, if the rails are cleaned well enough, I don't think there's a need for wax but I guess different people do different things.

I've heard of(and have done) throwing some silicone spray on boxes before. In the spring if theyre getting sticky.

errrrrmmmm i've been building parks for 7 seasons now...and i've never waxed, nor heard of people waxing rails in a terrain park... if you asked your local park crew, i'm sure they'd laugh and think your a nort.

weather affects the stickyness of rails, moisture in the air sticking and freezing, condensation, and heat with moisture. also has alot to do with the type of metal used and how its wearing down... flat bars tend to stick alot more than round bars as well..

not wax...

Its big at Copper, if a rail is sticky and noticeably so for a number of people, it will only be a matter of a couple laps before park crew is there waxing the rail. We rarely had to do it back east, but it really does make a world of difference for a high traffic park.

i was at ski bowl in late January and their park was not impressive to say the least.. They only had 3 really small boxes set up and a jump

haha i'm gonna guess that you're the infamous trevor? I don't know you personally but I was riding around with tanner and travis and they were swapping stories. Hope you're killing it out there!

Haha No but I'm staying at Trevs house this weekend in summit! Tanner is the homeboy, small world. This is Austin

I spent nearly a decade working terrain parks, from small Midwest resorts, to major Vail resorts parks. Never once have a heard of, or seen, a park actually wax rails.

It's 100% environmental. Throw a handful of snow on the rail for a bit of lubrication, and it will solve the problem.

I mean even in some very high traffic parks I've never really heard of anyone doing it. I'm not saying it's wrong, just that I honestly haven't heard of it and know that most places don't.

I feel like out of all resorts...Breck which is a massive training ground for top athletes wouldnt let their parks slack at all.

Could be an environmental thing or just your skis are crap

agreed, yet to find a park crew that won't help out

Damn. I don't know why that got so downvoted... I know a lot of parks don't wax or anything. But if a rail is wearing down wrong and just naturally sticky, I'm sure the park guys want to know so they can fix it or put a different feature in. But complaining about it online gets you nowhere. At least let them know so they can do something about it... damn, I don't know whats so wrong with that?
